Thank you, so before I begin just a couple of pieces of logistics that I want to get out of the way, there is a closed captioning option if the right hand corner for those who are in need of the visual aid. It is an automated close captioning tool, but it works really nice. Ann is available for those who need it. As you may already know, there's a chat box open for you to ask any questions along the way, and I do have four colleagues.
From the financial aid office, alongside alongside me. To answer any of the questions Natalie Jamila Brianne an Pauline, can you guys just give a quick shout out in the chat box to say hi to everyone?

Valeria Becerra Angulo
06:04:14 PM
until what time can I call to the financial aid office to speak with someone?
Jung Tzen Liew
06:04:15 PM
Hello
So the things that work could be going over will go over the different types of aid, then will show you are financially portal system called the my awards page and what it looks like and also some important pages that you want to review on on the my awards page will also go over some basic information about scholarships. We have 2020-2021 appeals on our agenda and protecting personally identifiable information. Student information is very important.
Valeria Becerra Angulo
06:04:42 PM
are you guys still working on campus?
At our office, so we will also be going over the privacy policy and how you how you can become a authorized third party.
And then finally will wrappings up with important dates that you should remember.
Natalie Medina
06:05:19 PM
When will financial aid packages be ready ? Mine still says being prepared
So the types of aid there is a wide range of resources available to help students and families meet their cost of attendance. Grants, for example, are funded generally from three sources, the federal government, the state, and the institution. Federal grants include the Pell Grant and the supplemental educational opportunity grant or Kogi state grants include.
Nathan Baffert
06:05:57 PM
I received mine yesterday, should be soon :)
Elizabeth Baierlein
06:05:58 PM
mine too^
The cow grant or the middle class scholarship an institutional grants can include grants like the University grants or the middle income grant. And so we have a wide variety of grants, but they're generally sourced from three different entities. If you will, loans are also a form of financial aid. We also offer alone, source from the federal government to the States and the institution. Federal loans are primarily the federal direct loans. Both these subsidized.
Grace Alleman
06:05:59 PM
My aid package became available today. On the website it said they will be releasing them until April 3
Christine Nguyen
06:06:05 PM
my award letter only have subsidized loans and unsubsidized loans but I'm also interested in work-study. Can I sign up for this and how?
An unsubsidized loans, including any of the Parent plus loans that you may see on your students award package.
Deanna Hernandez
06:06:11 PM
where do you see your financial aid package?
The institutional loans we offer is the University student loan that some students may see on their financial aid package and for California DREAM Act applicants. We also offer the dream loan in place of the federal direct loans.
So In addition to loans and grants, we also have the work study program, which is. My program is the program that I managed at our office and we have both on campus, an off campus, employment opportunities under the work study program and both Fasa and California DREAM Act application applicants are eligible for work study.
Veronica Zendejas
06:06:50 PM
Hello Deanna - you can see your financial aid package on your MyAdmissions page.
Deanna Hernandez
06:06:58 PM
thank you!
Christine Nguyen
06:07:04 PM
also, what kind of jobs are available for work-study?
I so we don't generally encourage students to find employment their first quarter here, because as the students will quickly realize the quarter system at Davis is super fast paced. 1/4 is is only 10 weeks and as a former student of UC Davis, I remember struggling a little bit in my first quarter here. I mean, you start at the end of September, the beginning of October and before you know it, three or four weeks and you already taking midterms and within the blink of an eye you already taking finals so.
Hannah Chrostowski
06:07:26 PM
are all aid packages out already? mine still isn’t on the admissions page
Valeria Becerra Angulo
06:07:45 PM
is work-study program available for international students?
So we don't. We don't generally encourage students to seek employment. First year, however, works that he is still an option for first year students and can provide invaluable experience for students. So if you are interested in learning about how to find a job or the work cited program, feel free to start out by reaching out to the student Employment Center.
Rishabh Sharma
06:07:55 PM
Are international international students eligible for any kind of help?
Nataly Mercedes Florian
06:07:57 PM
@Valeria Our office phone linesare open mon-fri from 9am-4pm, however, our phone lines are down at the moment, we should have our phone line open soon! If you have any questions you can always contact us through Contact an expert! :)
Christine Nguyen
06:08:01 PM
how do I reach out to the student employment center?
And last but not least, we have scholarships and as I'm sure you are all aware, there are 10s of thousands of scholarships out there that students can apply for but will go over in more detail about the application process in tips that can help you search for scholarships later in the presentation.
Lindsay Flores
06:08:06 PM
I have the same issue as Hannah, Are all financial aid packets out?
Natalie Medina
06:08:25 PM
How do we apply for scholarships and where can we find them ?
So out of all of these different resources, V2 types of resources that are considered free money or grants and scholarships, all the other stuff. For example, loans you have to pay them back at generally after you graduate, and then the work cited program will obviously have to work and earn the wages.
John Taloza
06:08:37 PM
how does our fanancial aid package affect our housing payment or our grants in general?
Tyler Basile
06:08:43 PM
No, financial Aid packets are coming out until April 3rd
Valeria Becerra Angulo
06:08:44 PM
@nataly thank you so much! I appreciate it ;D
Shahd Alnashashibi
06:08:52 PM
how do you access that page?
Lindsay Flores
06:09:00 PM
How do we access that page?
So moving onto the my awards page, the my awards page as I mentioned before, is the financial aid portal system where you can see everything about your financial aid. From the summary of your financial aid package by clicking the total estimated aid link to any pending requirements that you may want to complete. To view any important notices, or you can also go onto here onto the my worst pro system too.
To find out more information about an important notices or important holds that you may have on your account. The my awards page even allows you to submit changing aid request forms and I'll go over in more detail on how to submit one of those in a bit.
So when you're scrolling down to the bottom of the summary page, you will see this breakdown of the estimated financial aid by term.
Jamila Brown
06:09:37 PM
@John your financial aid will be applied to the charges on your account in the Fall. Jason is going to go over it in a min
Kathia Mondragon
06:09:41 PM
Do I have to complete all the incomplete requirements (like title IV fund authorization, sar c, etc) in order to get my financial aid package prepared? I haven't received mine yet either so I am curious if that affects when I receive my package.
Kelechi Orji
06:09:43 PM
How do we find and apply to UC scholarships?
So tuition and fees, including housing fees, are broken up into thirds and are built to you. Each third is built to you once a quarter, so you'll see a third of your building, an account each quarter.
Pauline Moreno
06:09:45 PM
Hi Rishabh- International students can be considered for scholarships and Alternative loans. Please checkout our site: https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/
Breanne King
06:09:48 PM
Hi Natalie - You do not need to apply for UC Davis scholarships for your first year, you will be automatically considered. You can always apply for Outside Scholarships and we have hundreds on our website. https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/scholarships/outsidescholarships
Kennedy Ma
06:09:51 PM
Will you be going over the Blue and Gold program?
Um, so this estimated financially by term will help you determine if you have enough accepted financial aid to cover your fees for that quarter. Now it is very important to note that this is a total of your offered and accepted financial aid, which means if you have not accepted.
Saira Casian
06:10:03 PM
My financial offer is still being prepared. When should I be expecting jt?
Sons, it will still show up in this section, so if you need that loan to help pay for your expenses, you want to make sure that you accept your loan so that they are counted in your financial aid disbursement.
And so that leads to my next topic of accepting Lowe's in accepting the words offered to you on your my awards page.
Breanne King
06:10:25 PM
Hi Kelechi - You do not need to aplply for UC Davis scholarships for your first year, you will be automatically considered.
Malia Reiss
06:10:27 PM
Is this package for all four years or do you have to apply again every year?
Jacob Cover
06:10:48 PM
Am I late on the items in requirements? I have not done the Title IV Fund Authorization or anything, but it say it was required on March 4th!
Nataly Mercedes Florian
06:10:49 PM
@Natalie,alll students should be able to view their Financial aid packages by the first week of April
Orli Algranatti
06:10:52 PM
If I got the Provost Award why doesn't it show up anywhere on my financial aid final summary?
So to accept alone you want to go to the awards tab of the my awards page an on this page you will find a list of all of your words and the option to accept or decline your loans when you click the accept decline button. The next page will give you the option to indicate an amount of the loan you want to accept. So by clicking the accept decline button, it doesn't automatically accept the full amount for you. You actually have the option.
Christine Nguyen
06:10:55 PM
swhen will we know when we win these scholarships?
Of only accepting a portion of a loan of the loan. If you want to.
Jung Tzen Liew
06:11:01 PM
On my financial package, I can only see the estimated Financial Aid which has the Parent Plus, Subsidized and unsubsidized loan. On the section that states Estimated Financial Need, is that amount coming out from the 3 aids mentioned at the top?
Brendan Kim
06:11:12 PM
I logged into my portal and it says that my "personalized UC Davis financial aid offer is still being prepared." When can I expect to see that updated?
Lindsay Flores
06:11:23 PM
How do we access the MyAwards page?
Jamila Brown
06:11:24 PM
@Shahd and @Lindsay these pages will be available on your MyAwards page. You can find the link through your MyAdmissions page
Breanne King
06:11:24 PM
Hi Orli - We have not posted Provosts Awards yet
Nathaniel Roach
06:11:28 PM
Do you have to take a division of subsidized, unsubsidized, and parent loans or can you request the bulk of your loan as subsidized?
But all of the loans that you accept have requirements that must also be completed in order for the loan to pay out. Some students, however, will have requirements that need to be completed for any financial aid to pay out, including grants, and we call these requirements global requirements, and so. In fact, for this example, as you can see, this student under the requirement status column.
Breanne King
06:11:42 PM
Hi Christine - Notifications for UC Davis scholarships go out over the summer.
You'll see that they have on a red incomplete button next to each award type, so if you see this on your my awards page, this means that you have a global requirement that needs to be completed in order for all any type of your financial aid to pay out.
Tristan Hicks
06:11:57 PM
By when do we have to accept or decline the aid?
And so to complete your requirements, you can complete the red incomplete button as we saw on the previous slide. Or click the requirements tab at the top.
Pauline Moreno
06:12:13 PM
Hi Hannah C.- We are currently working on award packaging for our entering students. If you have not been notified of your award offer please allow 7-10 business day. Than you for your patience.
And if you have any global requirements, you will see them under the All Awards section of the requirements tab and is very important to complete any of these incomplete requirements as soon as possible, where, at least by the deadline of July 15th to prevent adilet in receiving your funds by the fall quarter. So if you have not taken the step already to go onto your my rewards page to review requirements, I would highly recommend that you do that so that you can.
Isaac Ing
06:12:32 PM
Hello, my Cal Grant is still processing because I applied to Cal Grant last year before deciding to take a gap year. Will this cause any complications for you guys while making my aid package? When my Cal Grant is approved in June, will my financial aid be updated?
Can be proactive about completing requirements as soon as possible.
Tristan Hicks
06:12:41 PM
Never mind he answered it. Thank you :)
So if we take a step back for a second and go back to the summary tab of your my awards page, you'll see a breakdown of your estimated financial estimated cost of attendance.
Alison Chew
06:13:00 PM
Ahh just came in, how do I access my MyAwards page?
Sharon Rayburn
06:13:12 PM
Will this webinar be uploaded somewhere to ave?
And your estimated cost of attendance will vary based off of how you responded on your faster or California DREAM Act application is going to depend on how what housing plan you selected on your application and also depend on your residency status. If you are a California resident or in non resident.
Orli Algranatti
06:13:16 PM

John Taloza
06:13:39 PM
how do we know if we got a scholarship? does it show in our financial aid package?
So if you're planning on living in the residence halls or or in the dorms, you should have an on campus cost of attendance and those who are living off campus through like privately managed housing, you should see an off campus cost of attendance and so to calculate your estimated financial need, you need your total cost of attendance and then subtract your estimated financial lead need or your expected family contribution and that will give you.
Your estimated financial need.
Kelechi Orji
06:13:58 PM
is it necessary tat we pay for "books and supplies"? what if we are able to get those else where, will we still have to pay?
Melissa Gonzalez
06:14:02 PM
Can you change your choice about living on campus?
So, so expected. Family contribution, contrary to its name, is actually not what you and your family are expected to pay for college. It is just a number that the FAFSA or DREAM Act application calculates to help schools like UC Davis determine how much need based financial aid the student is eligible for.
Lars McBride
06:14:11 PM
MyAwards can be accessed here - https://myawards.ucdavis.edu/ - you will be required to log in.
Erin Kim
06:14:12 PM
what does a low EFC mean?
Breanne King
06:14:14 PM
Hi John - You will be notified via email if you are awarded a scholarship. It will also show on your MyAwards.
And this estimated financial need is the maximum amount of need based financial aid you are eligible for, which includes grants, scholarships, and and subsidized loans. So again, the FC or the expected family contribution is not what is going to appear as it build on your account and what you're responsible for paying is just a number that we used to calculate it to calculate the financial need.
Pauline Moreno
06:14:48 PM
Hi Jung- Im sorry, can you clarify what you are referring to when you speak to "3 aid"?
Sharon Rayburn
06:14:53 PM
Has anyone here gotten there Financial Aid notice yet XP
Yvonne Reyes
06:14:56 PM
Is it better to accept the Cal Grant or the Blue and Gold scholarship?
Chelan Tolentino
06:15:02 PM
HI! I'm looking at my requirements right now and wanted to ask what Title IV Authorization is.
Shahd Alnashashibi
06:15:04 PM
when I filled out my FAFSA I chose the on campus option, but what if I changed my mind, does that affect my finical aid?
And so to calculate your remaining cost in general, in general you want to take your total cost of attendance and subtract the sum of your total contributions and total financial aid. But I'm going to go kind of off script here for a moment, because this is I just want to clarify what your remaining costs as this calculation shows and how it's different from your actual out of pocket expense.
Tyler Basile
06:15:16 PM
@Sharon yes I have got my financial aid today
Sharon Rayburn
06:15:25 PM
oof okay
Lindsay Flores
06:15:27 PM
There are no access links to MyAwards on my admissions page, is this because my award letter is still in development?
So here is where it's important to note that different components of your cost of attendance. There is a difference between direct costs and indirect costs, and what I mean by that is the cost of the cost of attendance is comprised of a lot of things.
Natalie Medina
06:15:32 PM
Will we receive an email when our financial aid package is ready ? Or do we keep checking our portal ?
Veronica Zendejas
06:15:35 PM
This will be recorded and posted on our webinar page https://ua.ucdavis.edu/portal/admitwebinars
Sharon Rayburn
06:15:47 PM
okay thank you!
So for example, if you're living on campus, I comprises of tuition fee, not only tuition and fees and room and board, but it also comprises of books and supplies, person expenses, transportations, and other costs that may not directly show up on your bill, so these are.
Kelechi Orji
06:15:56 PM
what if we get our books and supplies elsewhere?
Jamila Brown
06:16:03 PM
@Erin EFC stands for Expected Family Contribution. It is the number we get from either your FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application. We use it to determine your Financial Need. So if you have a low EFC that means you may qualify for more of the need based funds like the Pell Grant
So these are considered indirect costs. So to find out what you are actually going to be paying out of pocket in general, you can calculate that by taking your direct costs so forever student is living on campus. That would be tuition and fees and the student housing Bill and then subtract your accepted financial aid. That difference will tell you what you're generally, what your out of pocket expense will be.
Jung Tzen Liew
06:16:36 PM
Under the Total Estimated Financial Aid. I see 3 options
Nataly Mercedes Florian
06:16:45 PM
You will receive an email when your financial aid package is ready to view on your MyAwards
So in August, once the fall bills are available available via the student accounting portal system called the my bill account, you will be able to see your current balance after all of your financial aid you accepted is applied to your account. You can actually quickly access this. My excuse me my bill page by clicking the check balance link at the bottom of the summary page on your my awards page.
So in August, I'd recommend that everyone checks their balance by under my bill account so that they know what they have to pay by the feed deadline for the fall quarter.

So other pages on the my awards portal there are. If you're receiving an outside resource like a scholarship, you want to report them to our office using the change in aid request link that I mentioned before.
And under important links you have the option to submit the third party authorization form that I also mentioned before.

Because and you want to want to fill that out to authorize any third party individuals such as parents and will go over. So scholarships UC Davis awards thousands of scholarships to entering students every year. But your application for a missions to UC Davis and to all you sees that is actually the application that we use to determine if you are eligible for any of the scholarships that we award.
So you don't need to submit a separate application to apply for UC Davis scholarships.

Hi Erin - Out of state students are eligible for the Pell grant as well as most of the scholarships UC Davis awards.
The the scholarships office will begin awarding students during the summer, and like all of your other awards, you should see these awards on your my awards page. But you also get an email notification via your UC Davis email if you are awarded one of these scholarships. So if you get that email from our scholarships office, please go to your my awards page to view the type of scholarship that you're offered and then also some scholarships have certain requirements.

Does receiving outside aid/scholarships affect the aid you will receive from UCD?
So where you can start searching our office actually has a really good resource kind of as a starting point so I'd highly advise that you do visit our website but also there are search engines specifically designed for for searching scholarships that for example fastweb is one of them obviously there's Google so Google is always a good option as well to search for scholarships and.
Jamila Brown
06:21:00 PM

Nataly Mercedes Florian
06:21:11 PM

Breanne King
06:21:12 PM
Hi Grace - Unfortunately awarding scholarships is a lengthy process so we are unable to award them any sooner.
If you are awarded a scholarship, you actually want to Mail your checks to the scholarship. Excuse me, the cashier's office. The address is sit there and all payments. Scholarship payments should be made made to sent to the cashier's office, but also accompanied by a memo stating the student's full name and UC Davis student ID number is important that you.
Uh, put the full name and UC Davis student ID number in a memo memo so that we know exactly which student to apply the scholarship for. Missing that information can really delay the processing of your scholarship check, so please make sure that you put your full name and UC Davis student ID number on a separate memo, an Mail it to the cashier's office.
Alejandra Oceguera
06:21:47 PM
If we go to UC Davis, will we have a meeting with a financial aid person at the university or will we do all of this ourselves?
So we have two important appeals that opened up in October. The family contribution appeal and the documenting additional expenses appeal. So in the 2020-2021 FAFSA, an California DREAM Act application, it asks for parents and students 2018 tax information, which was two years ago, so our office recognizes a lot of things could have happened.
Breanne King
06:22:14 PM
Hi Tristan - It can affect your other awards but it just depends on how much you are awarded.
Shreya Suresh
06:22:19 PM
Hi, if we receive a scholarship from an outside source, do we just mail the check to the cashier's office for it to go through? Are there any other steps?
In between those two years, so those family contribution appeal is an appeal that students can submit if they themselves or their parents have experienced a loss of income between 2008 and when school starts. So this appeal doesn't open until October 1st, but there is a there is information on a website about the appeal process.
Tristan Hicks

Okay thank you, Breanne

If our family makes under $80,000 does that mean our tuition will be covered under the Blue and Gold program?
Breanne King
06:23:01 PM
Hi Shreya - You can report it on MyAwards and then you would need to send the check to the Cashier's Office.
And then there's the documenting additional expenses appeal. So as I mentioned, a few slides slides ago, everyone is given a cost of attendance, whether you're living off campus or on campus, or committing and living with parents or relatives.
Jamila Brown
06:23:03 PM
@Youssef there are many resources offered through EOP you can find more information here: https://www.ucdavis.edu/admissions/undergraduate/educational-opportunity-program
So the documenting additional expenses allows students to appeal if they feel that their expenses are more than what the estimated cost of attendance is.
Abhinav Cheedella
06:23:19 PM
I live in kansas but my Dad works in CA, and pays CA tax last couple of years like 6 months in every month, can i get eligible for CA grants

06:23:21 PM
1. Are freshmen required to live on campus?
So if you're sitting here and you're saying You know if the cost of attendance has books and supplies allocation for let's say around $1600, but you're spending well more a lot more than $600 on books and supplies, you can submit the documenting additional expenses appeal to our office and we can reconsider your expenses and potentially increase your cost of attendance. So the main difference between these two appeals is that the family contribution appeal actually reduces.
Your expected family contribution. If there was a significant loss of income, whereas the documenting additional expenses would actually only adjust your cost of attendance.
So those are the two differences of the appeals, but both of them open in October 1st, but regardless, there is a lot of information about the appeal process on our website. For both of those appeals, so feel free to visit our website For more information.

So student privacy policy. As I mentioned, student privacy and protecting students personally identifiable information is very important and the reason why it's important is because there is actually a lot of federal law called the family educational rights and Privacy Act of 1974 that protects students private personally identifiable information. So without the written consent from students school school representatives like myself and my colleagues.
Nataly Mercedes Florian

So students can, however, authorize their parents as a third party by completing the third party authorization form on our my awards page.

06:25:14 PM

06:25:28 PM
Is the Blue and Gold program different than a scholarship?
So when contacting our office, you will need to provide the third parties name. So if you're the parent you would want to provide your name and the pass phrase or access code which is created when you complete the form on the my awards page. You also want the students ID number and then their data birth as well. So with that those pieces of information we can release some information about some more information about the students.
Lyanne Chen
06:25:45 PM
How do we know how much we are supposed to pay if we don't take loans into account? do we subtract the grants from the cost of attendance?
So yeah, so with the third party authorization we can release the following. So general financial aid information, right? So like consumer information, the timelines and processes of different applications or forms that are submitted, we can also release general information about financial aid options. So like the different types of loans that your student is may be eligible for the grants that your student may be eligible for.
Breanne King
06:26:19 PM
Hi Kassandra - Yes, Blue and Gold is different than scholarships. Blue and Gold is based off the FAFSA where scholarships are based off merit.

Cashier’s OfficeUniversity of California, DavisPO Box 989062West Sacramento, CA 95798-9062
Payment should be accompanied by a memo stating the student recipient’s full name and UC Davis student ID number
Or we can also release non financial aid application data, which basically means that we can release information that is not directly on the FAFSA or California DREAM Act application. So this includes financial aid requirements, financial aid appeals and loan documents in processing.
Alejandra Oceguera
06:26:33 PM
When is the last day I can turn in outside scholarship checks?
And when you call in, we can discuss where to find information about your my awards letter, where you can find your student aid report, information about how to find your my bill account, different different resources. We can provide different.
Information about different resources that you can find. We can also confirm information on the Fasa, but only if you provide us that information and we can also provide the status of non Fasa or non DREAM Act application data. As I mentioned before, as long as it's not on the application we can pretty much assist you and provide that information.
Breanne King

And just to reiterate the information that we cannot release regardless if you have a third party authorization form or not is specific numbers on your financial aid application specific numbers on your FAFSA or your California DREAM Act application, so that includes. I'll be your expected family contribution. Specific award amounts, values that are listed on your FAFSA or California Mac application like your just your parents.
Grace Alleman
06:27:59 PM
when during the summer will you start releasing scholarships?
Adjusted gross income or the students adjusted gross income. Anything regarding the tax information on the FAFSA or California DREAM Act application. We cannot release even by the phone, and even even if you have a third party authorization form. We also cannot release any refund amounts, so I know that if you are expected to receive a refund from your financial aid.
We cannot release the specific amount that you will be eligible for. I know that the student in County Department also has a separate third party authorization form that is completely separate from the financial aid.

A third party authorization form so a lot of students and parents get confused about that difference. If you, even if you have a student accounting authorization form, it doesn't necessarily mean that you are an authorized third party with our office, so we do need that separate third party authorization form completed with our office so that we can release some of this and some of the other information on.
Sophie Clark
06:29:20 PM
if i change information on my FAFSA will my award package be updated even if i already received it?
Jamila Brown
06:29:21 PM
@Kennedy that is correct as long as you meet all of the requirements you can find more information here on the Blue and Gold program: https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/types/blue-gold
So important dates the October 1st deadline as I mentioned before, is when you're when the two appeals. The two big appeals of family contribution and the documenting additional expenses appeal open, but is also when the Fasa in California DREAM Act application opened up for the next academic year so that's the 2021-2022 academic year. So pretty much as soon as you are starting school, you are.
Already having to prepare for the next academic year on October 1st is also when these scholarship application opens for the next academic year. So as I mentioned earlier, during the scholarship section portion of our presentation, your application for missions was the application for your scholarships for UC Davis scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year. However, on October 1st.
Starting your second year, you will have to submit a separate application for scholarships and that is when October 1st is when the application for these scholarships scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year opens.
Nataly Mercedes Florian
06:30:30 PM
@alejandra, if you ever have any questions about your financial aid, you can give our office a call once our phone lines are open, come to our front desk hours (once campus re-opens), but if you have any questions at the moment, the best way to contact our office is through contact an expert. We are here to help!
And the deadline is generally in January of the following year, so January 2021 is. It will be when the deadline for the scholarships application is the specific date should be posted on our website at a later time. And the most important date of all is the March 2nd deadline. And what I mean by the March 2nd deadline is for in the state of California. We have a priority deadline.

If we decide to not take out loans, do we have to pay the full amount we owe after subtracting the grant aid before class begins?
For you to be eligible for the maximum amount of of financial aid and that deadline is March 2nd. So it is important that you submit your FAFSA or California DREAM Act application by March 2nd. If you want to be considered for the maximum amount of financial aid you are eligible for. I've seen students lose out on 10s of thousands of grant money because they do not file by the March 2nd deadline. So if.

Breanne King
06:32:02 PM
Hi Youssef - It could, but we would not reduce grants. If we needed to reduce aid in order to award a scholarship, we would reduce your loans.
So at the very beginning of the presentation, I mentioned that our office is not just sayin administrative office that processes your financial aid application, we have a plethora of resources for students throughout the year that are available to assist on one on one, on one advising for budgeting. If students are having difficulty budgeting throughout the year with their financial aid.
Pauline Moreno
06:32:08 PM
@Kelechi- The Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan ensures that eligible California undergraduates with an annual family income of up to $80,000 will have their systemwide - or base - tuition and fees covered by gift aid. .... There are many awards that can be under the B&G umbrella, but in a nutshell if you are eligible then you can be sure your system wide fees will be covered by one or multiple awards.

Once you attend the first year, are you considered resident or will still be considered out of state tuition?
Or their refunds? Then we actually have a one on one advising resource where you sit down with one of our peer advisors and they can actually breakdown a budget for your student and help them budget throughout the year. We actually have particular finals snack bags to encourage a good work life balance. We have workshops on money management similar to budgeting. We recognize that is.
Important to to educate students about money management and one of our biggest resource fairs during the year is our budget con you will see a picture of that at the top left hand corner. This resource teaches everything from from.

@John your financial aid package will be based on the housing information you provided on your FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application. If you make a change to your housing through a Change in Aid form that is when we would adjust your aid package.
Come and take a look at all of the requirements that you may have to complete for your financial aid to disperse. The other thing is, I just want to point out again that the cost of attendance is is just an estimate of what we believe. You're the average student will spend while they're living on campus or off campus so it is not exactly what you're going to see as it build on your account and neither is expected family contribution. They expect FM contribution. As I mentioned before.

@Gabriel the Blue and Gold can reflect on your aid package as any free aid including the Cal Grant, Pell grant, SEOG grant, Scholarships etc. As long as you have at least $12,570 in free aid you have received your Blue and Gold funding
Gabriel Rainstorm
06:38:39 PM
Are incoming freshmen required to live on campus?
So do the financially packages include the cost of living in the dorms? So if you go onto my awards page you will be able to see what type of cost of attendance you are packaged under. So if you indicated on your FAFSA or California DREAM Act application that you are living on campus.
Lyanne Chen
06:39:14 PM
can you explain what the title 4 authorization is?
You will. You will be packaged as an on campus student, which does include a portion of a room and board that is significantly higher than someone who would be living off campus, and that is designed to help you receive enough financial aid to pay for on campus housing. But as I mentioned before, the cost of the tenants, not everything in your cost of attendance is going to show up as an actual bill on your account. If you're living on campus, the only thing that is going to show up the only.

Two or three things that will show up on your account on your my bill account is your tuition and fees, your student housing, and then potentially health insurance. If you are purchasing University Health insurance. So all of the other components like books and supplies, transportation, personal expenses, those will not show up as direct costs on your student account on your bill.

@Sharon R- The Va fee waiver is an award accounted for in your need portion of your award. Please anticipate your waiver will change current awards. But it will be an even swap.
So someone asked on my awards letter is only subsidized loans an unsubsidized loan. So what does that mean? That could mean that your expected family contribution is is high, which means that your your financial need is low. But as I mentioned before, if your parents have experienced a loss of income between 2018.

After we apply for housing does the cost of admissions specifically the cost for housing change?
And now you you may want to look into the family contribution appeal because that will reduce your expected family contribution if it is approved and you can be considered for additional need based financial aid like grants.
OK, so I'm just scrolling down through the chat box to see if I can answer anymore questions.
Jamila Brown
06:40:49 PM
@Kennedy you can have more than one third party contact
OK, so someone asked, can you explain what the title for authorization is so the title 4 authorization it essentially authorizes our school to release financially to pay for all all expenses that are built to your account so as I mentioned really there's this tuition or fees and the student housing and the health insurance potentially that are built your account. But you can also use your account to purchase supplies at the bookstore.

There could be also course material fees that are built to your account and it's these things that technically your financial aid cannot pay for unless you authorize us to do so, and that is what the title for authorization is is refering to by authorizing title 4 by clicking yes to the authorized title for authorization, you are allowing us to pay for any cost on your account. Any bill on your account with the financial aid that you have accepted.

We are continuing to package students throughout this week, so if you have not seen your financial aid package or package yet, you should expect it by no later by the end of the beginning of next week. We are, as I mentioned before, we constantly sending out financial aid notices. Once you're financially package is ready, you should be.

06:42:53 PM
is there any way to lower the financial need right now since we are unable to appeal
So someone asked my total cost of attendance. Health insurance is included. What if I'm covered by my families insurance? Where and how can we just that so the University does offer health insurance that students can opt into purchasing. However, if you want to wave out of that, you would want to contact the student health and counseling services to submit.
Aidan Castricone

All I saw on my rewards page was a parent plus loan, the subsidized and unsubsidized loans, the pell grant and work study. We saw nothing else.

Hi Grace - Which requirements are you referring to? The loan requirements?
Robert Freedman
06:43:40 PM
Why are scholarships not awarded until summer?
Uhm, this is uhm, it's I guess it's important to note now that the University has a requirement that all students have some sort of health insurance, so all students are actually automatically build the University health insurance. However, you do have the option of waving out. As I mentioned before, to waive that of the health insurance you want to contact the student health and counseling service, and they have a waiver application that you can submit.

@Youssef you can upload any requested verification docs through MyAwards. It will link you to the Verification submission tool online.
So someone asked, do I have to pay for books and supplies so books and supplies aren't necessarily a fixed cost. There are something that, depending on your major, depending on your courses that you're taking the amount of that you actually pay for books and supplies can vary. So technically, yes, because most courses throughout your throughout your your.

Your stay at UC Davis will have at least some book that professor or somebody requires that you purchase. However, you don't always have to purchase them at the bookstore either. There are other resources out there like Amazon and check that you can use to purchase or look at renting books. So to answer that question directly, yes, you don't have to pay for books, but that really depends on how much you pay. Really depends on.
Breanne King
06:45:35 PM
Hi Grace - You can either leave them as is or you can complete them even if you do not plan on accepting them. Until you accept the loans on MyAwards, nothing will happen with them.

06:46:01 PM
how much does an international student have to pay and what visa do you have to have to be considered an international student?
OK, so I'm getting a couple of questions about the appeal process and questions about how they can pay before the because the fall quarter feed deadline is September 15th and the appeals the family contribution appeal does not open up until October 1st, so I think that's where some of these questions are.
Are being asked about is how can I pay for.
This September 15th deadline when the application the appeal process doesn't open until October 1st.
Nataly Mercedes Florian
06:46:27 PM
@Gabriel, incoming freshman are not required to live on campus
The September 15th deadline is the deadline for you to pay the fall quarter fee. The fall quarter fees and if you are having difficulty paying the full amount all at once on September 15th.
The student accounting Department has a program called the the deferred payment plan or DP.
And that allows you to basically make monthly installments. So on September 15th you should be if you sign up for the deferred payment plan on September 15th, you would actually only be responsible for about 1/3 of your fees, and then the second installment would come in on would be due on October 15th and then the last installment would be due on November 15th. And so this is an option for students.
Pauline Moreno

06:47:54 PM
what is student self help on your award letter?
Jamila Brown
06:48:01 PM
@Mickaela if your housing plans are different than what's on your FAFSA you can make a Housing change by completing a Change in Aid form through your MyAwards at the bottom of the Awards page
So the third payment plan, because it's broken up into monthly payments. Hopefully you will have enough financial resources to pay for the first installment and hopefully by the second or third installments come October 15th or November 15th. Your family contribution appeal will have been reviewed, and then you would get an updated financial aid award based off of that review. And if your expected family contribution is reduced so that you are eligible for additional grants.
Or additional need based financial aid. Financial aid will retroactively disperse to cover for the months that you should have been eligible for that financial aid.
So someone asked if I need to submit a citizenship verification, who can I send it to you?
Erin Kim
06:48:30 PM

OK, so someone asked, How do I know how much I get for the blue and gold opportunity plan so the blue and gold opportunity plan is a plan? Is a UC wide plan that guarantees that at least the sum of all of your grant money is at least enough to cover the systemwide tuition and fees so.
The the blue and gold opportunity plan. If you are eligible for that plan. If you add up all of your grant funding so for Fasa filers your Pell Grant your University Grant your Cal Grant or for California DREAM Act applicants that be your Cal Grant or University grant. If you add up all of grant money it would should be at least the amount of the systemwide tuition and fees.

This requirement becomes very important actually. Starting your second year if you have any.
Any pending financial any pending balance leftover after you are done with your first year. This actually if you authorize us too. If you authorize this, it actually allows us to use your financial aid from the next academic year to help pay for some of the balance that is leftover in remaining from the previous academic year. If you do not authorize it, it actually does not allow us to pay for those expenses, so it's hopefully that clears up that question, but.
It really becomes important starting your after your done your first year.

Jamila Brown
06:51:52 PM
@Grace if do not plan to take loans you can decline them, however you will need to ensure that you have another way to cover the difference that would have been covered by your loans. You can always request that we add the loans back to your aid package later on if you decide you will need them by completing a Change in Aid form.
OK, so someone asked on my Fasa. I put off campus housing, but now I've decided to live on campus. Does that affect my financial aid package? If so, do I have to correct my fast cell or will it be OK once I do my housing application so that is a very good question. So if you accidentally reported an off campus housing plan on your financial aid application or a commuter.
Um, um a housing plan on your financial aid application, but you're actually planning on living on campus in the change in aid section. So let me go back to it or quick.
In this change in aid requires section, you'll see a section for you to make changes to my housing status. So if you are planning on living on campus but you accidentally reported a different housing plan on you.
Financial aid application. You can actually submit a change in aid request to our office using the link on your my worst page. To report that you are living on campus. That all being said, it is very important that you are submitting the change in aid requests that you are confident that you are going to be living confident with your housing plan. Because if you indicate that you're living on campus, we actually do go later and double check that you were being build the housing fee to make sure that.
Are you are you are packaged with the correct financial aid awards, but if you want to change your housing status on your application, feel free to submit that change in aid for request form to our office so that we can adjust your financial aid package accordingly.

OK, so someone is asking so the school has. It has to determine how much subsidized loan one can take. If I need more loan money, but I don't want to use a parent plus loan then what are my options? So the direct loan options for the FAFSA filers that is actually set by the federal government for first year students we cannot. We cannot award.
More than $3500 dollars in federal direct loans. Federal direct subsidized loans. But we subsidise that difference of a $5500.

A subsidized loan component by offering those students a $2000 University student loan. So if you see that your subsidized federal direct subsidized loan option is not enough, we do offer the University student loan option, which is also a subsidized loan. And in some years it actually even has a lower interest rate than the federal direct loan, so.
So that is that is an option for you.

@Aidan- Due to unforeseen events the Financial Aid Office is currently closed and our phone lines are not available at this time. We hope to be available via phone soon. You may call our office with-in a week or two to speak to someone about your specific eligibility.
A state agency and the middle class scholarship before eligible for it. You will be. You should see the middle class scholarship as an estimate on your my awards page is going to be an estimate until we receive the official roster from the California Student Aid Commission and that usually doesn't happen until November, which means that your middle class scholarship estimate.
At that time would be converted into an actual award and disperse into your account at that time.
Breanne King
06:56:10 PM
Hi Erin - No, scholarships will not be awarded until over the summer.
But there isn't a separate application for it, but you may want to contact the student aid Commission if if there's any additional steps that you need to take to be eligible for it.

@Melissa - It's recommended to contact student housing, but it appears early April. Check this for accuracy - https://housing.ucdavis.edu/how-to-apply/residence-halls/
OK, so someone is asking if my financial aid reward doesn't show, say work city. am I still eligible to apply for them or do them so you are eligible for work city even if it doesn't appear as an actual award on your account, we don't initially go out with work study awards until we can confirm that you have a work study job so that process actually starts with.

So if you are interested in looking into employment your first year here, a great place to start is the student employment center or the internship Career Center. You want to direct those questions and inquiries to the office of the registrar and speak to the residency deputies about.
How to update your residency status.

OK, so I've seen this question a couple of times about the health insurance. So is the health insurance costs included in the total cost of attendance so you actually won't see it in your my awards page?
Pauline Moreno
06:59:10 PM
@Christine N- Student Health and Counseling Services manages the health insurance component. i encourage you to visit their site: https://shcs.ucdavis.edu/insurance/ship-benefits-information
Uh, but if you are purchasing University Health insurance, you are eligible for additional financial aid resources to help cover for that cost, but you, but as I mentioned before, it's not going to show up directly on your my awards page.
Later, when during the academic year when we confirm that you are whether or not you are purchasing University Health insurance, you may see an update to your financial aid package to accommodate for that additional cost.
So I apologize. I know that all of this information is very, very confusing. So given the current time.
