Hi everyone!
Alright, so with that I think we're ready to get started on my next eye peas.
Katarina Schultz
06:04:19 PM
Hello
OK orientation, uh, so orientation is how you start getting involved at UC Davis. This is how you learn about what to expect and how to sign up for classes and get prepared for life on campus. Orientation is mandatory for all incoming students. After you submit your statement of intent to register or Sir remember, the deadline is coming up. It's on June 1st. You will start your orientation experience with Aggie 101. This online module will help you learn more about UC Davis resources.
And explore your AGI community. You will be able to access this through your my admissions portal.
After completing Aggie 101 you will participate in Aggie advising which is an academic advising appointment with your college or major advisor and this is done remotely so this is going to be online as well. Your advisor will help you with course planning and prepare you for registering for fall classes. You will receive information about how to access Aggie advising. After you complete Aggie 101 and finally, you will attend Aggie orientation hopefully on campus. Keep your fingers crossed the week before classes begin. During this time you'll have.
Opportunity to explore the campus environment, build community and connect with valuable resources.
All right, So what to expect after transferring this is a common question that we get from student. So one thing to remember is that UC Davis is on the quarter system. You are all, well, not all of you, but most of you are familiar with this semester system. Unless you're transferring from the Anza or Foothill or what is the other one Lake Tahoe Community College, then you're you're already familiar with the quarter system where we have three regular terms during the academic year. You have fall, winter, and spring.
Right, and each term is 10 weeks long. 10 weeks of instruction and then you have one week of finals. So right now this week is actually week eight for UC Davis for spring quarter. So we have a couple of weeks left of.
Instruction and then they have their final, so we're still going. We're not done with with our term. I know most of you are in your finals week right now. Or maybe finals is next week. So that reminds me. Good luck to all of you on your finals if you haven't taken them yet. You know we hope that you finish strong at your Community College.
And then so a lot of year also wondering when do classes start so classes actually start late, so it will be at the end of September. September 30th is the first day of instruction at UC Davis.
And So what does that mean? That means you'll have a really long summer break, so we use that time wisely.
Alright, next slide please.
Aida Pourya
06:07:28 PM
how can we register for orientation?
Alright, OK, so once you're here at UC Davis, you know we want you to maintain good academic standing to avoid being on probation.
So by being on probation status or being disqualified, so these are the two measures for academic standing. So first is qualitative, so that's maintaining AC average 2.0 or better overall every quarter and then the other is quantitative. So quantitative is the number of units that you'll need to take per quarter, so the minimum progress is at least 12 units per quarter, which is a total of 36 units for a year, and then they expected progress. Or the average is about 15 units for quarter or 45 units.
And so at this time I will go ahead and pass it on to Myra.
Alena Nizhnik
06:08:28 PM
Hey everyone!
Jackie Nguyen
06:08:52 PM
@Aida, after you SIR on myadmission portal, you will get access to orientation. Orientation has 3 phrases. Pam and Mayra will go into that in the later slides
OK, so with so much that you will need to do to my tender economic standing, uh, we actually have a lot of support services available to help you maintain that good in standing. Once you don't campus, you have access to a wealth of resources to help you succeed. You learn more about these resources are orientation, so I will just touch.
Search based on some of the big ones or the most renounced wants to help you. A lot of them will over academics, assistance in tutoring, writing assistance, science and math support as well as help you find knew or maybe just refined your study skills and monitoring mentoring as well as other things.
Pam Blanco
06:09:31 PM
Hi Jasleen! :)
Some of the resources or one of the ones I want to touch base on is the first year AGI connection. This is a great way to meet new people and to create connections within this program you have a chance to choose a group based on our shared purpose or share interests and then you'll meet regularly with that. A specific group during the first quarter on campus it is meant to actually set the stage to ensure that you are not going through the transition alone and that you were having.
Laura Hafer
06:10:01 PM
Is there a way to make the slides bigger? I cannot read anything?
Jackie Nguyen
06:10:20 PM
@Laura, You can click on the 'full screen' button which is the four arrows in the corner.
Orders that you are moving along with who share the same interest as you do. Other resources that we want to touch base on R. Of course, our internship and Career Center that helps students started job or career search while you are completing your bachelors degree in also teaches how to prepare a resume or creative pro folio in other professional materials. The internship and Career Center offers here fairs, career fairs.
That keeps and gives you a list of, uh, jobs and internships as well as it maintains a career development platform available for you to use that is called handshake. This is the platform that you can use to find jobs on campus.
Katarina Schultz
06:10:48 PM
Is orientation available now or after June 1st?
Ariana Martin
06:10:50 PM
Is there a way to start taking classes over summer, or are we only allowed to start during the fall quarter?
Um is students can easily a schedule dropping sex sessions with Advisors an attend workshops as well through the same portfolio there. Transferring reentry center is dedicated to transporting reentry students and they have various specific needs and we want to offer as much support as possible. The center has professional in a student staff who can help you connect to resources across campus and lounge to allowed to a study and relax as well as other opportunities.
Jackie Nguyen
06:11:13 PM
@Katarina, orientation for transfer students will be open after June 1st.
Pam Blanco
06:11:23 PM
@Ariana- yes, you can take classes this summer! summer-sessions.ucdavis.edu
Jill Charles
06:11:37 PM
Will there be any sort of repercussions for taking 12 units per quarter instead of 15?
To make you feel at home, the first generation initiative, uh is available to help you create to help create awareness of 1st generation students and faculty on campus and provides a sense of connection, community access and encouragement for first generation students as well as create other support services available as well. Depending on what you said that you need the study abroad program again, it has more than 13.
100 students who study abroad in over 40 countries each year and he has a wealth of different programs available to you that also includes a study abroad during the summer.
Yanbin Zuo
06:12:05 PM
does UCD have summer session? Could we attend summer class in UCD and does the financial aid cover summer class?
OK, and UC Davis. We want you to find your community so that community doesn't include chest academic based services. But it also includes a different world of community to ensure that you are finding your niche.
Madeline Lemieux
06:12:23 PM
Are there support services for students with ADHD?
Pam Blanco
06:12:25 PM
@Jill - 12 qtr units is the minimum to avoid probationary/disqualification status
Some of those communities are cultural base, like the chicken, chicken necks, and Latin X Academic Success Center. The Native American studies, success, international students, and scholars in African Diaspora Student success centers.
Now with that I will, uh, give them my compaction upon who will talk to you a little bit more about the campus?
Lars McBride
06:12:44 PM
@Yanbin, financial aid is available for summer sessions, based on eligibility. Check out https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/types/summer for more information
Alright, well that was quick, so let's see we will start with safety.
Is that where we're starting?
Jackie Nguyen
06:13:04 PM
@Madeline, yes. You can contact the student disability center. https://sdc.ucdavis.edu/
Sureni De Silva Wikkramatilleke
06:13:19 PM
Is the fall semester going to be online or on campus?
Can you sit next slide? There you go. Alright, so I'm actually apparent too. I have a junior who goes to UC Davis and you know, I I've worked at on campus for 20 years and I've always considered you know the campus as well as the city of Davis where you safe. You know, sometimes I work late on campus and you know I don't feel threatened or anything. Walking back to my car to the parking lot. You know my daughter it lives in Davis and.
Sarah Carrasco
06:13:51 PM
if I am eligible for blue and gold, would I be able to use it during the summer session?
You know she jogs around town, you know she she rollerblades around town and on campus and you know, she doesn't really have. She has some activities where you know she stays late on campus, sometimes up until 10:30 eleven o'clock at night. And you know, she doesn't feel she feels really safe going back to her to her dorm and out of her apartment. So students, especially parents and family members that are out there. I do want to assure you that you see Davis is a safe community.
Jackie Nguyen
06:14:08 PM
@Sureni, we're planning for Fall to be online. But for now, no directives yet if Fall semester will be fully online.
It is a big step to come to study in another town or to send your student out. But again, the advantage of Davis being a college town is that the whole community is focused on creating a safe and successful plays for our students to learn and grow. The campus is, well, it and we have nighttime safety escort escorts that picture right there with a safe ride. Services is available for all students. We also have an on campus, police and fire Department. We have Sutter hospital here in the city of Davis which is only 10 minutes away from the campus.
And we also have a campus alert system that you can sign up for even as parents or family members. So you can get alerts on your phone and or email.
Lars McBride
06:14:50 PM
@Sarah- you may be eligible during the summer. We recommend you contact Financial Aid and Scholarships to determine your eligibility. Check out https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/types/summer for addtnl information
Alyssa Duran
06:15:24 PM
I learned that orientation fee is $595. Will this price change if orientation is moved online?
OK, transportation. Another really common question that we get from students. So we do have a partnership with the ASU CD. That's our student government here on campus and as well as the city of Davis. So you see that you'll see these big red buses that are Unitrans bus buses and they service the entire city of Davis. The drivers and the conductors are actually students, so we train them to drive a bus and get their Class A license. So those are actually the best student jobs on campus.
Alena Nizhnik
06:15:34 PM
Is it possible to go part time while working full-time?
Of my daughter's housemates are Unitrans bus drivers, which is really cool.
Elizabeth Baker
06:15:44 PM
Can you explain the Transfer Edge program?
Rachael Anderson
06:15:46 PM
this is a question about campus.. is there a gym on campus or is there one in town?
And it's free for students to write it. Just show your at your student ID and you can even use the yellow bus system so we're in account were in Yolo County. Yes we are Yolo County and we have the yellow bus system that goes to Woodland. You know if you want to go shopping here, we have a Costco. And then there's also West Sacramento where.
Jackie Nguyen
06:16:24 PM
@Elizabeth, what would you like to know about Transfer Edge. Here is the link with a brief info about the program https://aggielife.ucdavis.edu/organization/transferedge
The capital is an downtown Sacramento. It goes all the way out there, and that's also free for students. As long as you show your student ID. We also have an Amtrak station that stops in downtown Davis, which is about what Seven blocks away from campus. I believe I'll show you in one of the later slides, and that and Amtrak will take you to San Francisco to Sacramento to Fred as far as Fresno, Bakersfield, Lake Tahoe, an even as far as Chicago, which is really cool.
Lars McBride
06:16:35 PM
@Alena - It is possible to apply for part-time status (https://registrar.ucdavis.edu/registration/part-time) If receiving financial aid, you will need to notify Financial Aid and Scholarships of any status change as well
But you know, you can see that picture on the left. You'll see that bikes are the main mode of transportation. Here in Davis we are biketown, and although I see a lot more students on skateboards, longboards and like, I said earlier rollerblades, which is my child's choice of wheels to get around Davis and on campus right next slide.
Jackie Nguyen
06:17:18 PM
@Alyssa, I don't think so. Orientation has 3 phrases: Aggie 101, Aggie Advising and in person orientation. 2 of the 3 are done online.
We're also big on sports, so we're actually a Division One and AA campus. We have a lot of different sports like baseball, basketball. We even have beach volleyball. Believe it or not, we have a question. I think that's pretty unique for UC Davis. We have field hockey football. I love going to the games for football is always so much fun. We have called him nastix across soccer, softball, swimming and diving. Tennis track and field volleyball. Water polo.
Mayra Escobar
06:17:40 PM
@Rachel, we have the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) which is our state of the art gym with a lot of different options including an indoor track
We also have intramural sports, so if you're not a student athlete in our varsity sports and you can definitely participate in our intramural sports and clubs sports, let's see. We have stuff like boxing. I have student who transferred from Sacramento City College who was in the president of the boxing club. We have table tennis. There is inner tube water polo or you can even create your own quidditch team if you want. I've never seen a quidditch match on campus, but I know it exists. So there you have it.
Sabrina Marchand
06:18:22 PM
is there free tutoring available?
Um, there are a lot of other cool stuff that you can do all around campus, so we have the equestrian center. We are the only UC campus with an equestrian center. Yes, you can bring your horse if you have hours you can bring them with you and bored him or her on campus. If you don't have a horse an you're interested in taking riding lessons, you can do that as well. Or you can even volunteer to work with the horses through the Guardian Angels program and we also have, like I said.
Do we have any question team which is an official Division One Sport Outdoor Adventures is also.
Mayra Escobar
06:18:59 PM
@Alena, you can petition to attend Davis part time after successfully completing your first quarter at Davis as a full time student. Petitions are evaluated and granted on a case by case basis
A service that we have available for students. They offer hiking, camping, backpacking, whitewater rafting and kayaking trips to different areas in California. Up North down, you know, in Central California and.
Jackie Nguyen
06:19:24 PM
@Sabrina, yes. You can check out their website. They covers many subjects. https://tutoring.ucdavis.edu/
Kelly Nguyen
06:19:36 PM
Does the amtrak take you to Los Angeles?
They have a really popular camping trip to Yosemite. Uhm, and backpacking trip that they do. They also let students rent gear if you know if you don't have your own kayak. I mean really, that is a student, right? As a starving student you can rent all of that through outdoor adventures. We also have a games area, maybe that's in the next slide. I don't know. I thought I saw something like that. We also have a games area.
Yanbin Zuo
06:19:47 PM
i drop some classes without w in spring semester, but why in my UCD system it still showing my dropped classes information in classes record?
Lars McBride
06:19:48 PM
@Kelly - Yes, check out https://www.amtrak.com/routes/coast-starlight-train.html
Jackie Nguyen
06:20:11 PM
@yanbin, check in with your TOP representative to check on this for you.
On campus, where is in the basement of our memorial union? And that's where we have bowling billiards. We have video games, all kinds of different video games and different board games. And then we also have the craft center. So if you're interested in doing arts and crafts, we do have that available as well. There's also the experimental college where you can learn some nontraditional classes like cooking and making jewelry.
Glassblowing, uh, you know things like that. So it's really interesting.
And then next slide. Oh, there it is, yeah, so the next slide we have the picture for the games area where the bowling alley is and.
Jill Charles
06:20:50 PM
Will work-study still be available if Fall 2020 classes are online?
We have some pool tables there as well, and video games and then the student farm. So even if you're not an agriculture major on campus, you can volunteer to work at the student farm and learn about sustainable food systems. One of the things that you can do is you can teach children and youth, so the local elementary schools bring their students do with the student form and you can teach them about agriculture and healthy eating.
Ally Cuccia
06:21:20 PM
my CC was a semester system and most classes were 3 credits so 15 credits was 5 classes. on the quarter system are the classes worth more credits - since the classes are accelerated in a shorter amount of time? or would we still be taking 5 classes for 15 credits each quarte?
Jackie Nguyen
06:21:31 PM
@Jill, that depends on the department you're doing work-study with. For our student assistants, we have projects for them to do at home.
Yanbin Zuo
06:21:41 PM
how do we know what classes do we need for our own major?
Some of you may be aspiring teachers out there, and this is a great way to get your your classroom hours. You're teaching hours by volunteering at the student form. Or maybe you know you just enjoy fresh, freshly grown produce and you know this is one way to get that. Sometimes I get free eggs from campus. I get free tomatoes, zucchini. I don't know. I I've received so many free produce on campus, which is really cool. And then the Arboretum.
That's probably one of my favorite places on campus. When I used to run a few years ago, I don't do that anymore. My knees can't take it, but their Arboretum is a 3 point mile stretch.
Alena Nizhnik
06:22:08 PM
Can you give any parking advice to commuters who will be staying in Sacramento? I heard parking is hard to find
Wyatt Todd
06:22:12 PM
How will housing be affected for the fall quarter?
Kelly Le
06:22:24 PM
Where can we find information on work study opportunities?
3.5 mile stretch from end to end. So a lot of you'll see a lot of students and even staff and faculty walking there or running biking walking their dogs. You'll see a lot of dogs, or you can just stroll through the Redwood Grove you I see some students that studied by that Lake that you see in the picture there and you'll see a lot of ducks and sometimes you'll spot some turtles, an sometimes the River otters will make an appearance.
So I checked out once you get to campus.
Jackie Nguyen
06:23:05 PM
@Wyatt, that depends on our university directives. For now, we have not heard anything yet. But you can contact housing directly to see what is best for you.
Arsalan Alam
06:23:05 PM
I have a question about the financial aid, I applied online for FAFSA , but I am wondering that do I have to submit document such as tax return transcript in U.C Financial Aid k
All right, so next picture is just kind of an aerial shot of the Davis community, so you've probably heard this a lot that you see. Davis is a true college town, so that means that the campus is just right next to our downtown area, so you see Davis and the city of Davis work together to make sure that your experience is welcoming and fun.
Um, we are the one of the most bike friendly places in the country. We have many, many miles of bike paths all over the city an on campus.
The what do you call this? The Amtrak station is around like at the edge of the eastern edge of downtown Davis. That's where it's at. And then.
Mayra Escobar
06:23:37 PM
@Yanbin, you will meet with your major advisers during orientation and they will help you build an academic plan and register for classes
Jackie Nguyen
06:23:39 PM
@Yanbin, check out the catalog.ucdavis.edu. Look at your major and find the curriculum.
Lars McBride
06:23:44 PM
@Arsalan - You will want to check your MyAwards page for any requirements you may have - https://myawards.ucdavis.edu/MyAwards/SecondaryVerification.aspx
We also have the farmers market right there in central part where that Green area is right in the middle. That's where we host. Or that's where we have the farmers market that we have every Wednesday evening.
Saturday mornings. Uhm, it's one of the best farmers markets markets in the country. And it's definitely a gathering place for students and families alike. And the next line.
Um, just some more shots of downtown Davis, Uhm?
Mayra Escobar
06:24:27 PM
@Wyatt, housing will communicate with you regarding what is the protocol if classes are offered online
We have a lot of student friendly restaurants. There are three movie theaters in downtown Davis. Lots of different shops. Students always rave about the food in Davis. You know we have all kinds of Sushi, Thai food, Indian pizza, burgers, crepes, Boba tea. There's lots of full Brian Davis anywhere you go. Lots of coffee shops.
You know, those become easy, easy places for studying meeting friends. We have Trader Joe's. Ann Rite Aid also outside of right outside of campus. Ann. It's walking distance from the residents area. We also have art gallery's music venues, parks, fitness spots, places to dance, you know, a lot of the restaurants in Davis turn into nightclubs at night.
Precious Jones
06:25:14 PM
Are there any pictures of the green available?
Henry Chou
06:25:16 PM
Do we need to certify our IGETC through our community college before transferring?
You know, if you're into that scene and there are also several hotels just blocks from campus where your family can stay when they come to visit you, and at this time I want to pass it back to Mira.
Lars McBride
06:25:33 PM
@Precious - There's a few here: https://housing.ucdavis.edu/apartments/the-green/

06:26:34 PM
I didn't apply for 2019-2020 FAFSA. Can I apply now and will that count towards the summer session?
Lars McBride
06:27:05 PM
@Kirit - You may still be able to apply. For details on Summer Financial Aid, check here: https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/types/summer
Yeah, and yeah, there's actually a question about that, Myra, about five says so and you just mentioned that you said next week there's a weapon or about financial.
May 27th so tune in next week Wednesday, same time, same place for the financial aid web norm.
OK, so there's also an Aggie buddies program, uhm?
Share with you. OK will give you more information about what the Aggie buddies program isn't just a little bit.

Lars McBride
06:32:22 PM
@Juliet - it is possible to switch housing status. Submit a change in aid form through your MyAwards page at https://myawards.ucdavis.edu/MyAwards/SecondaryVerification.aspx
Yeah, if if you are living in if you if you end up living at the greens which is the student housing apartments. Parking is limited so you'll have to work with our student housing office to make sure. If you need parking at the student housing apartments either greens or at soul.
We have another question Myra about deferred enrollment. What is a process for deferred enrollment?
Precious Jones
06:32:32 PM
@lars thank you!
Spencer Shin
06:33:07 PM
will fall quarter 2020 be full online?
Jackie Nguyen
06:33:18 PM
@Sureni, try your best to get your hs transcript but our office will not place a hold on your account if we don't get it on time. We understand that it is difficult right now. Just communicate with us so we have it on your record.
Mariam Hernandez Mendoza
06:33:33 PM
What progrmas at Davis have priority registration?
Alright awesome, we have a question about transcripts. What if we went to high school out of the United States? Is it still necessary to get a signed and sealed transcript? Unofficial transcript from the high school or it can it be mailed due to this pandemic situation?
Lars McBride
06:33:46 PM
@Spencer - Unfortunately no official word yet. We are prepared to do so, but will comply with local and federal government direction.
Arianna-Rae Lagman
06:34:07 PM
Will Davis be accepting transcripts electronically or are we still required to physically mail it in?
I'm not sure what what programs they are referring to, so maybe they can give us a follow up question on this, but there is a question about what programs at Davis have priority registration.
Momina Nadeem
06:35:09 PM
when will we know for sure whether classes will be online or in person or a hybrid format in the fall?
Jackie Nguyen
06:35:13 PM
@Arianna, Pam and Mayra will answer this live
Yeah, so we can clarify that for us that would be great. Another question is, will Davis be accepting transcripts electronically or are we still required to physically Mail it in?
Lars McBride
06:35:39 PM
Regarding Fall Class Format: We anticipate that our instructional plan will enable substantial flexibility that supports student learning and degree progress. Students who cannot physically join us on campus because of travel restrictions or the inability to obtain a student visa will also be able to learn remotely. We will provide more updates about the status of fall instruction in mid-June.

06:35:45 PM
At community college, my workload was primarily homework assignment-based. Is it true that the UC workload is mostly study and exam-based?
Alright thank you Myra. Well will keep you all posted, you know as soon as we get more information and more clarity on.
Sarthak Rishi
06:36:00 PM
I opted for out of campus housing but my awards includes charges for room and board . How can I fix that ?
Whether we can accept electronic transcripts or not.

06:36:03 PM
Do we need to send our high school and community college transcripts anywhere in particular?
Sarthak Rishi
06:36:12 PM
I opted for out of campus housing but my awards includes charges for room and board . How can I fix that ?
OK, so the next question is at Community College. My workload was primarily homework assignment based. Is it true that the user workload is mostly study an exam based?
Lars McBride
06:36:58 PM
@Sarthak - You will need to notify Financial Aid and Scholarships via a Change in Aid form you can submit through your MyAwards page at https://myawards.ucdavis.edu/MyAwards/SecondaryVerification.aspx
Yes, absolutely. I definitely, UM, joined the Aggie chats. When you can, you know? But just speaking from experience, you know 'cause my daughter is actually home. She's doing most of her school work here at home because our Internet is better so I can say that you know her classes right now. She's a cognitive science major, so if you are a cognitive science major we might see her next year.
Jackie Nguyen
06:37:04 PM
@Wyatt, you can ask our student ambassador by emailing them. top-soa@ucdavis.edu
She has lectures, you know. She writes a lot of papers, you know. So I mean, if you consider writing your papers as your homework and that is homework, right? She does a lot of research to write her papers.
Jackie Nguyen
06:37:19 PM
@Sarthak, you can contact financial aid office to have that sorted out
And then yes, she does have exams. Sometimes their exams, sometimes you know, sometimes they have midterms and finals. Sometimes it's all of it. It really just depends on the class that you're taking.
Yeah, but you know, as far as like homework, the way that you're used to maybe right now, maybe it's just a little bit different. Yeah, but she does have a lot of homework, but it's mostly just writing papers and she's a junior, so she's you know you all will be coming in as juniors, so I don't know if that helps. Hopefully it does.
Um, let's see what other questions do we have?
Sarthak Rishi
06:38:18 PM
I opted for out of campus housing but my awards includes charges for room and board . How can I fix that ?
So, Uhm, Mira, in a Min. Downtown Davis, what would you consider is like your favorite restaurant to go to?
Wow, now there are quite a few places that I like. Uh, so I like a Chinese and Japanese food allowed to have a kid Marie, uh, we have. I like centauro, which is a very small but very cute place that is located in downtown. Uh, where I just.
Peter Nino
06:38:48 PM
To piggyback on Sureni's question if i went to high school over 14 years ago but it states I need my high school transcripts, but the school district is not able to send them due to no one working for a hard copy
Yeah, but I usually go to get my Bento box fix. There are a lot of places we do have a lot of, um, both places as well. For anyone who you know would like to get above us or anything above us, we have a lot of those places in town that are a lot a lot of different things. There is Mexican places as well that are really good, so it's really hard to pick just one.
Jackie Nguyen
06:39:20 PM
@Shaan, read your conditions of admission carefully. Sign in your myadmission portal and the address is on there. https://myadmissions.ucdavis.edu/applicants/deadlines/transfer.cfm
My favorite is probably get Maury. Uhm, you know that our family goes to woodstocks a lot, which is a pizza place here in downtown Vegas and I frequent, you know, a few of the Bubba places myself at the web and R had I was in yesterday. There was a question about vegan and there are actually a lot of vegan options in downtown Davis, so there's a lot of, I guess most of the restaurants have vegan options that you can choose from. And even if you, let's say.
Isiah Thomas Cua
06:40:00 PM
is the green only available to transfer fall students? not transfer summer?
If you purchase a meal plan with our dining Commons on campus, they also have vegan options as well, so that's definitely going to be available for you if you are in the vegan lifestyle.
Alejandro Domin Quemada
06:40:21 PM
Will there be a recording for this webinar just to look a this?
So we do have a question about let's see, um, if I know there's a follow-up question. I get Myra. I guess if I went to high school over 14 years ago, but it states I need my high school transcripts, but the school district is not able to send them due to no one working for a hard copy.
Uhm, I guess you know what do they do I?
Kelly Nguyen
06:40:38 PM
How will we know if you have received our college/hs transcripts?
Lars McBride
06:40:51 PM
@Alejandro - Yes! It should be available to view tomorrow. https://ua.ucdavis.edu/portal/TRAdmitWebinars
Momina Nadeem
06:40:56 PM
do we need to submit high school transcripts? why is it necessary?
My answer to that is especially for institutions that are outside of the United States or outside of California that have a different process right. Not all of the institutions are the high schools will offer at transcript. Some will offer certification, some will offer some more of a some other type of documentation, but the point is they will offer some documentation even if it is just delayed or stating that you wouldn't roll from start to end date.
Just anything that you can provide that will certify that you attended high school in that place during the four years of high school will do so. It really depends on what he said that your high school is offering an. You know whatever information you can provide. You can always submit comments and explanations through your my admissions page.
Jackie Nguyen
06:41:43 PM
@Momina, because we need a whole academic record of our students.
Yes, yeah, that's what I was going to say. I'm in, follow up. You know if if you've exhausted all of your avenues. Ann, you are really unable to get a high school transcript. Then just communicate that with us. Not through here, but through your my admission so that it's official, you know, just send a message to your my admissions.
No, I was just gonna say I'm reading a question that it's kind of like alluded to the same. I happen to come my high school out of state but they don't send. Oh that's the one you're right, never mind.
OK, oh OK, so this one. How will we know if you have received our college or high school transcripts?
Oh, great question. So under my admissions page you are going to actually be able to see which documents have been received by us. It doesn't happen automatically, right? Remember, you were sending electronic transcript. So from the moment that it is received into our office in needs to be indexed and scan encoded an all of those beautiful.
Aida Pourya
06:42:46 PM
But what if we do not have any access to that foreign high school?
Jackie Nguyen
06:43:01 PM
@Aida, just communicate that on myadmissions so we have a record of it.
Things so the moment we get through that process it will appear on your my admissions page as received. So keep an eye on your my ambitions page. If you send the document and I don't know a week goes by two weeks, go by. From the time we receive it and you still don't see it, contact us so that we can figure out what's going on. Remember from the time that will receive enough from the time that it was mailed out because it will take longer for us to get to that process, right?
OK, what other questions do we have here? Oh, um.
What about, uhm, you know if I bring my bike, uhm, you know? What kind of bike lock should I get?
Would you like to answer that one?
I guess I'll answer my own question.
You know, Davis is a pretty safe city. Uhm, but surprising. Well, maybe surprisingly, or maybe not surprisingly, the most common crime is bike theft. So if you are bringing your bike, you know, make sure to buy a pretty good bike lock, you know with those you locks.
Break with with. I don't know what they're called. You know those things that you break the chain? You know, don't don't don't get those cheap bike locks yet. The nice you lock they cost about $4050 each, sometimes even more expensive than that. But yeah, the one that my daughter had when she was a freshman was about of $45.00 you lock.
Eduardo Landicho
06:44:39 PM
How handicap accessible is the campus? As someone who is in a wheelchair my only worry is not being able to get around.
And she left her bike on campus for the whole winter break and it was still there when she got back and nothing was stolen. Which is really great. She took the seat off, you know, so just so it doesn't get stolen.
Kyle Olver
06:44:48 PM
I’m taking Spring Intersession 2020 and Summer 2020 classes, when should I submit my CC transcripts?
But yeah, definitely invest in a good bike lock. OK, we have a question here about uhm.
Galilea Jauregui
06:44:51 PM
I had a question regarding financial aid. Are there any upcoming financial aid webinars or anyplace I can contact ?
OK, let's see how handicap accessible is the campus. As someone who is in a wheelchair in my own, my only worry is not being able to get around.
I would say that the campus is very a wheelchair accessible. We have ramps in a building, uh, we are flat land, so our campus is located in, you know, basically flat land. We are one of the, if not the largest juicy campus in the entire system and we are spread out very flatly so it is very accessible.
Lars McBride
06:45:37 PM
@Galilea - Yes, next week! https://ua.ucdavis.edu/portal/TRAdmitWebinars. Also, you can ask your questions at https://my.ucdavis.edu/ask_us/
Vy Nguyen
06:45:38 PM
How can I inform UCD about my HS transcript via our MyAdmissions as I cannot provide the official one?
Jackie Nguyen
06:45:52 PM
@Vy, you can try this form. https://ua.ucdavis.edu/register/ask
Yeah, it definitely the campuses ADH compliant. Uhm you know I have been to some of the other UC campuses and you know, I can say that our campus is a lot more accessible than some of our sister campuses. I'm not going to name names, but but yeah, we are pretty accessible when it comes to, you know, going around on a wheelchair or scooter.
I'm taking spring intersession 2020 and summer 2020 classes. When should I submit my transcripts from my Community College? That's a great question.
OK, so the deadline to submit transcript. Remember that doesn't change the deadline to submit official transcripts when it comes to meeting your conditions of admission is July 1st. If you are taking summer courses, I am pretty sure unless you were informed otherwise that you know they are taking outside of the admissions process, so you will need to submit two separate transcripts one by July 1st to meet with your conditions of admission. And then I believe it is September 1st.
If you want to get a credit for your summer courses.
OK, let's see what other questions do we have here.
Melissa Fryar
06:47:00 PM
Can we submit official transcripts in person?
Can we submit official transcripts in person?
I mean not at this time because I can put this ball.
Momina Nadeem
06:47:25 PM
Are there Halal food options on / off campus?
Arianna-Rae Lagman
06:47:41 PM
De Anza's spring quarter ends at the end of June and the transcripts deadline is July 1. Is it okay if De Anza sends our transcripts after the deadline?
Not at this time this woodworking remodel, but you know if this was, you know, any other time. Yes, you could drop them up at the office as long as they are sealed and they have your name and your student ID number on the envelope so that we can actually attach them to your application. You could, as of right now would not on campus, so I wouldn't recommend that you. You know hand deliver.
Yeah, once once the shelter in place um mandate is lifted. Uhm I maybe we may start opening up the welcome center.
Uhm, you know, but will keep you posted on the net.
is the shelter in place here in Yolo County ends the end of May.
Jackie Nguyen
06:48:13 PM
@Arianna, we know that quarter schools won't have that available by july 1st. So for your school, just order them as soon as you can. But we're aware of that
I see a question regarding our color schools. Uh, in which the sprinkler and ends at the end of June and the deadline for transcripts is June, July 1st. So yes, we get that question all the time.
For the three colleges that are running the color system? Uh, just submit a comment on your my ambitions page, giving us an estimated time in which you will be able to submit your transcripts.
06:48:46 PM
If my High school and community college send me my transcripts first, that means I cannot open that letter and must sent it unopened to UCD?
Uh, and then we will go with that. Uh, it happens every year. Uh, the answer Foothill in Lake Tahoe community colleges. Your transcripts usually arrive a little bit later, and that is OK as long as we receive them in a timely manner.
Jackie Nguyen
06:49:10 PM
@Kaden, as long as they're not open then they're valid. You can put them all in 1 envelope and mail them to us.
Yeah, so um. Earlier I mentioned that there are a lot of vegan options on and off campus and it's the same with halal as well as kosher foods, you know? So that's definitely available both on and off campus. So aside from the dining Commons, there's a new dining area dining Commons area on campus called the latitude where it's an international.
Precious Jones
06:49:37 PM
Where can we check the updates on the school's lockdown?
I guess yeah, the international dining Commons that we have on campus. It's near the tercero area. We also have the coffee house which is at the Memorial Union. Yeah, they also offer kosher and halal foods at the coho.
Restaurants allowed restaurants, downtown Davis have those as well.
Lars McBride
06:49:53 PM
@Precious - This is probably the best place at the moment - https://www.ucdavis.edu/coronavirus/news/updates
Wyatt Todd
06:50:08 PM
What first steps can I take to get involved with clubs on campus?
If you are considering, you know, bring your bike to campus, uh, make sure you have that. Oh my gosh, I don't know what it's called that that strip on the back of the bike. It's like this shield so that when it happens to rain, which is very rare in Davis. But when it does rain and you write your bike and you know if you are biking on wet roads, you don't want to have that stripe on the back on your back.
Lars McBride
06:50:34 PM
We'll be sending communications to you in the coming days, so keep an eye out for an email
You don't have that shield, so make sure to.
Jackie Nguyen
06:50:37 PM
@Wyatt, you can check out our clubs and communities link https://www.ucdavis.edu/campus-life/clubs-organizations/
Make sure that your bike has one of those. I don't know what it's called.
Drawing a blank right now on what that is called.
Galilea Jauregui
06:50:54 PM
Will we be penalized for missing any deadlines ¿
Yeah, I know nothing about, but I don't know what it is cold.
Yeah, I'm really excited for all of you. You know, as you start the orientation process and go through Aggie 101 and learn more. Yes, it's called bike Fender. Thank you, Lars.
Leon Lambruschini
06:51:11 PM
fender
Jackie Nguyen
06:51:13 PM
@Galilea, just make sure you follow the timeline. https://myadmissions.ucdavis.edu/applicants/deadlines/transfer.cfm
Yes, thank you Leon. Yes, that's what I meant.
Let's see. So are there any other questions on here? There is a question about um, missing any deadlines? Will we be penalized for missing any deadlines?
Kelly Nguyen
06:52:07 PM
How is the weather in Davis; is it more on the cold or warm side?
We have deadlines so that we can finalize your admission, so we hope that you will not be missing any web lines. If there is any, you know a specific reason out of your control for which you are going to be a little bit delayed. Please communicate with us through your my admissions page so that we don't take a steps to cancel your admittance. Uh, that's basically what it comes down to if we need to finalize your admissions and we're missing documents, we will more than likely cancel, right? We want to avoid that at any cost.
Jackie Nguyen
06:52:18 PM
@Kelly, Pam and Mayra will answer this live
So communicate with us. Let us know what kind of challenges do our uhm, encountering a on your end so that we can work with you.
So there's a question, uhm, you know. Hopefully most of you have visited Davis, and you've seen you know the campus or experience with the weather is like. But there's a question about the weather. How is the weather in Davis? Is it more on the cold or warm side?
Depends on the time of the year.
Kyle Olver
06:52:54 PM
- [ ] How are classes currently conducted online? Ie, is everything a zoom meeting, or is there another service used?
Arantza Vazquez Tapia
06:53:03 PM
I was told by a UCD advisor that because we're transfer students, unofficial transcripts from HS are accepted.
It's really hot in the summer, you know we we do get those heat waves where it's over on the degrees during the summer so we always hear it from students to move from the Bay Area that they're melting when they get to Davis, but it gets really cold during the winter. Or do you know where you do have to wear your parka coats and everything?
Yeah, it rarely rains. Uh, you know when it rains is probably just during the winter time, although this year has been really strange. You know we've had rain this past month, which is very unusual.
Jackie Nguyen
06:53:28 PM
@Arantza, send what you can.
But there's no snow were located in the Sacramento Valley, so uhm, yeah there's no snow ending this at all. And if you want snow then Lake Tahoe is only about 2 hours away. So if you miss the snow, there you go.
Yanbin Zuo
06:53:48 PM
is it ok to let my community college send the transript directly to UCD, but i attend 4 colleges totally?
Uh, let's see I was told by a UC Davis advisor that because were transfer students and wait.
We already answered that, OK, uhm?
Jackie Nguyen
06:54:07 PM
@Yanbin, yes, you can have them send it to us directly
There's a question. How are classes currently conduct? How are classes currently conducted online? I everything? Is there another service used?
Yeah so our uhm, well at least once at my daughter.
Goes to her classes are all through canvas.
Kelly Nguyen
06:54:26 PM
Do I have wait until I am complete my current Spring Semester before I send my official transcripts? Or can I send it now until the semester is still in session?
Yeah, I don't. I don't know if if there are classes that are using zoom as a platform, but the ones that I've seen are through canvas.
So some of you are already familiar with canvas 'cause your own community colleges use that as well.
Um, let's see are advising appointments with major advisors. Tell remote. Yes, yeah, so the Aggie advising portion. The second part of orientation will be done remotely as well, yes?
Jackie Nguyen
06:55:04 PM
@Kelly, send your transcript before July 1st to cover Spring semester. If you're taking classes over the summer, then request to send another one once summer grades are posted.
Do I have to wait until I am done with my spring semester before I send my official transcripts, or can I send it now until this semester is?
Alejandro Domin Quemada
06:55:16 PM
Are advising appointments with Major Advisers still remote?
Until this semester is still in session.
Aida Pourya
06:55:24 PM
I have Medi-Cal. I was wondering if I need to get UCD health insurance or not?
So what will make your official transcripts? Final transcripts will be the fact that they're showing a grade on your spring terms. If you are sending official transcripts before the semester is over, that means that your spring courses will show us in progress and therefore we cannot take it as your final official transcript. So you need to work with your Community College to ensure that even if you are ordering your transcripts ahead of time.
Lars McBride
06:56:00 PM
@Aida, you will be billed for UC Health Insurance (SHIP) BUT you can waive it if you want to: https://shcs.ucdavis.edu/insurance/ship-benefits-information
That they're holding them until your final grades are posted before they release them, because otherwise you will still be missing your official transcripts and we won't be able to finalize.
Jackie Nguyen
06:56:06 PM
@Alejandro, most advising appts are done on zoom or phone
Alright, so there's a question about um insurance health insurance. The student is asking I have medical. I was wondering if I need to get UCD health insurance or not. So this might apply for a lot of you out there. So that's why I wanted to.
Sarthak Rishi
06:56:29 PM
os Davis accepting pass / no pass for the grades for spring 2020
So uh you are required to have health insurance, but you are in Rolla Davis. If you currently are insured through any other man whether it is medical or you know your parents have health insurance or any other means you can actually submit a waiver for the health insurance so that you are not charged for it all of that information is available on your my admissions page and it will be available to you after you submit your student intent to register.
So if you have not yet submitted your uh, intent to register, you will not have access to those forms. But the moment that you do, you will be able to actually submit the waiver and we won't charge you for it if you already have health insurance.
Just to add to that, I know one of our student assistance has Medi-Cal I. I'm not really familiar with with it, but I think there are different levels of medical so you know just go to the website the that large shared with you all for insurance and you just compare the.
David Bouzas Gewing
06:57:36 PM
There other thing,,,is for financial aid... I need the attention to and address to send my appeal letter and documentation.
Jill Charles
06:57:43 PM
What will happen to the UCD SHIP health insurance grant if you waive it because you already have Medi-Cal - will that grant money for SHIP instead go to covering tuition if you have Blue & Gold or something else?
Uh, you know the insure insurance medical with the ship insurance that we offer and as long as it's called Comprable then you should be able to waive the UC Davis health insurance.
And you know, it's just an online form that you have to submit. It's really not that.
This is really easy to fill out.
Lars McBride
06:58:05 PM
@David - Financial Aid appeals can be found here for undergraduate students: https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/faforms/undergraduate
06:58:18 PM
Do veterans typically opt out of UC health ins?
And what will happen to the uh, shape health insurance grant if you were if you wave it because you already have medical, uh, so yeah, if there is any grant money or free money that was assigned to you to help you pay for the health insurance, that will go away if you wave it is not money that you get to keep. It is money that we have designated to help you pay the cost because it is another cost, right?
So yes, if you wave and it will go away.
Lars McBride
06:58:49 PM
@David - Family Contribution Appeals, or Special Circumstance appeals, are available early this year in July
Right, yeah, and you know, I've also met with some students who do have their own insurance, either medical or maybe through their parents, but they still opt to have the ship insurance. So you see Davis. So it really is just up to you.
Jackie Nguyen
06:58:53 PM
@Sarthak, yes. up to 14 semester units from Spring to Summer
Aida Pourya
06:59:18 PM
how much time do I have to accept or deny the federal loan?
And for anyone who is confused about the blue and gold, the blue and gold program is a um grant available to students who meet the qualifications for it. And it is meant to pay your tuition and fees specifically. So if your family income is $80,000 or less, you will be provided with a University grant, which is the blue, blue, and gold program that will go directly to pay your tuition and fees.
Jackie Nguyen
06:59:37 PM
@Kaden, speakers will answer this live
Right, so while we're on the topic of health insurance, there's a question 'cause we earlier. We mentioned that Sutter Health is in Davis. There's also a Kaiser Permanente facility here in the city of Davis. It's not a full hospital, you know. So they are clinics, but the hospital, the Kaiser hospital near button, the nearest one is in Vacaville, which is only about 15 minutes.
Lars McBride
06:59:53 PM
@Aida, you have the aid year, or school year, to accept or decline your loan. You can do so through your MyAwards
OK, yeah, Myra lives in Vacaville so.
There's really cool spy or Sacramento you know. So either one.
Alright, so there is also a question about.
Jill Charles
07:00:20 PM
Can you have UCD SHIP and Medi-Cal at the same time?
Jackie Nguyen
07:00:30 PM
@Jill, yes.
Um, do veterans typically opt out of UC health insurance? Um, yeah, that is a great question, and I'm not really sure it really depends on your insurance. You know if if you have insurance that is comparable which ship, then you can do the waiver and opt out of it. Like I said, You know there are some students who have their own insurance through.
David Bouzas Gewing
07:00:59 PM
I need the street address for the Financial Aid Appeal.
Lars McBride
07:01:05 PM
@David - https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/contact
CA and still, um, pay into the ship. Health insurance through UC Davis you know. So just to have all the coverage available. Alright, so where at 7:00 o'clock? We really appreciate all of you who stayed with us all the way to the end. We hope that this web and R has been really helpful for all of you and if you have any questions, please reach out to us.
Farhad Habib
07:01:18 PM
Will the allocated money for ship be applied to other financial needs?

Leon Lambruschini
