Alright so I am having some technical difficulty here. I don't see any of your chat, but that's OK.
Now we got all your questions in advance, so I'm also want to introduce my colleague here today.
Her name is Dahlia or any Talia. Can you please say hi?
Dalia Wardany
10:03:06 AM
Hi everyone!! :)
Zhun Miao
10:03:19 AM
Hi Dalia
Yes, so Dolly is one of the associate director here at UC Davis. She is helping to overseas, you know, with different regions and things like that and also our recruitment effort. So Dahlia would be helping today with what we call the moderated chat here today. So if you type in your questions there, she will be able to look at those questions and then once you know we look at the questions and she will be able to either her or myself would be able to address the questions.
So you will be able to see what other people are asking and all that, so feel free to ask me. I will ask you to hold all your questions until the end of the presentation just so we are clear everything and I'm sure a lot of things that we talk about today. It will be addressed in the presentation as well.
So alright, so now we're going to get started now and talk a little bit more about why people are choosing UC Davis and what are the things that you should be looking for when you're choosing a campus. Because obviously I love Davis. I am biased, but we have a lot to offer as a campus and also when you apply to us, you probably know about our quality of educations and things like that. Today I'm going to share a little bit more about how you know what our students loves about the UC Davis campus.
Right, so first, the campus itself or campus is beautiful. I know some of you might have been on my campus already. We are located in North in California, beautiful North in California and.

10:04:47 AM
Hi Dalia!
Junyue Chen
10:04:49 AM
Hi!:)
And so when you were looking at, you know the location. We are about an hour and a half away from San Francisco. So if you were to fly in, we will be flying in from San Francisco. And then we are about an hour and a half away from there, so I know I know a lot of you are concerned about COVID-19 on the coronavirus. What's happening right now that and asking about, you know how everything going to be looking? Are we going to start on time, our visa looking and everything? And to be very honest with you guys?
And we actually don't have the answer about it to all those questions yet, because we are all monitoring the situation and working with RSISS and everyone to kind of make sure that we have different plans when things do happen. So I hope that you can understand that and once we have answers to those who will definitely notify students were committed to UC Davis. And we're here to help you. So I know it's a concerning time I understand it's a time of uncertainty.
But make sure that you know that we are all in it together. So just you know, kind of think about your options in college now and then. Just kind of see how things happen.
OK, so when you're looking at a town like Davis, hum that we are located in North in California. Like I said, when you're looking at a town like Davis, we also be.
And we are also we're college town. So when you're looking at the city of Davis, so some of your printer campus were huge campus where the largest UC campus in the system with 5000 acres of land. We definitely have a lot to offer. We have an airport or their campus. If you wanted to learn how to fly an airplane, you can actually go through our aviation club to learn how to fly an airplane. If you look at the town of Davis, we are a college town. So what it means is that more than half of the population of the town of Davis, our students, so everyone that you run into everyone that you.
I will interact with would be what Happened? Association of the campus, either staff, faculty or students. So it was a really, really friendly community and environment. So that's one thing our students really like about Davis.
And when you look at downtown Davis, so as you can see from the previous life that you will be able to see that our campus, it actually right next to downtown Davis. So when you look at downtown Davis, there's a lot of food there is.
There is a lot of food. There is a lot of different things, so when you're looking at going to downtown Davis, you will be able to.
Able to see that there's alot eateries and things like that, and our campus is right next to it.
Dalia Wardany
10:07:24 AM
Are you guys able to see the slides changing? :)
And then what you see right now. It's also our algorithm, so a lot of our students actually like the space and also all the greenery is that you can actually take naps, walk around things like that on our campus if you wish. I always tell students when you're looking at a school. Don't only look at the University itself, but also look at the environment. That's right next to it and who else lived in the environment. Whoever else lives in the community actually make a difference on your college experience. And Davis is a college town, so everyone is really friendly and there really welcoming.

So right now we are ranked #5 pop last public University in the nation. That is probably one of the reason why you have applied to us and considering us. I personally I don't really like looking at rankings only because I feel like rankings might not be the best interpretation of how good or how bad of an education you're going to get. So obviously a lot of people care about rankings, but I can tell you it's really up to you to make your number one school for yourself. And like I said, I want to Davis and Davis is my number one school and I had a really good experience.
There's a lot of resources and people that support me through the way, so I hope that when you go to college you able to find a community in an environment that supports you that has what you're looking for. And also, you know not just about the rankings because you know, really.
There are a lot of universities in the US, so when you if you only look at rankings, it's really hard to determine. You know if that's an environment for you or not, because you're the one who are going to be there for four years, not your parents, not your counselors, not teachers, not your peers, so make sure that you find your home.
So of course we also have a lot of unique courses that its hands on. This research on side as a hands-on, and that's also fun. We also have an undergraduate Research Center that helps you need to do research if you're interested in research. So when you're looking at that, we if you're interested in doing research, obviously as you see, we have lots of options, right?
When you also looking at, you know different courses you can take so you can see from the image there there's actually someone look like they're smiling coffee, right? And you're right, they are. This is actually an engineering class to talk about the Mechanic behind coffee is offered by the cultural engineering. We also have tractor driving classes. We have like different classes that are not only academically focused but also really fun and also you're going to learn a lot.

When you look at the school like us, would definitely have the research opportunity. We also have a lot of internship and research internship opportunities for you are interviewing curious answer office about 10,000 jobs, an internship every year. Companies like Apple, Amazon in tall.

Is John Sandy recruit at our school? You know, on a regular basis, so every quarter they will come to our school and recruiter students for different jobs. An internship. So of course, as an international students. If you were like, well, I just want to start off working on campus and also based on visa limitation. You already you can only work on campus for no more than 20 hours a week. So what you can do is to, you know work. Start working on campus first, get some jobs experience and then if you really want to work off campus.
You can only work off campus if it's related to a major. So and that's allowed. But if you are working something a completely unrelated or you know that's not OK, but you can totally look at our intention Korea, sometimes they have a lot of fairs. They also have different seminars and all that that helps you with your interview and also resume building and all that. So it's a really, really good place for you to actually start working. When I was a student at UC Davis, I used to work at the Alumni Association. I also used to work as an orientation leader.
So I learned all about you see Davis and I also used to work at the library so you can get a lot of job experience in the hands on experience while being a student at UC Davis. One thing I really like about on campus jobs opportunities that I don't have to travel anywhere that I can already work. 10 to 12 hours a week. That's really cool.
And of course, is for you to build your resume and also make some extra money, right? So what you see in Tom Honda screen right now? You see that there is a unit transfers a bus there, so you see Davis with the bus system that runs through our city and all the bus drivers. and I actually students. So this is actually a student job that you can do so whatever you interested will have different jobs opportunities for you. If you're looking to get some experience while getting your education.
Of course, if you're coming to California, or if you're using if you're not originally from California, you will be able to see that you know we have a lot of study abroad program. Our study abroad actually covers about 170 different programs in over 40 different countries. So if you're interested in studying abroad, we definitely have the option for you. Of course, right now is not the best time to travel. I definitely advise you not to travel right now so, but we do have a lot of study abroad program if you're interested.

10:12:44 AM
sorry i cannot hear clearly
It could be major relating. It could also be general education. It's completely your choice.
So the third biggest reason why students likes you see, gave us his sad. We actually provide a really healthy environment for our students and a lot of our students are really mindful off. You know, you know greens, environmental friendly and all that. So obviously we are affected by campus. So if you have seen our marketing materials and things like that, you see a lot of bikes over there. So this is who we are. This is part of who we are that we bike around we like, I said we're really large campus so.
Dalia Wardany
10:13:34 AM
Yunci try raising the volume a bit see if that makes it a little better?
A lot of our students actually bike around to get the classes in between the jobs and things like that, so it's really easy for you to get around him. Just hop on your bike. We are actually one of the largest by community that you know. If you're interested in joining the community. And don't worry if you're like me that you are not sure about biking because it could be intimidating if you trying to carry all your stuff with you. You can also take the bus. Like I said, we have an amazing bus system that you see Dave is actually work with the city of Davis that has pus around so it goes through our.
Hum community in the only go through our campus, but it goes to places like target. You can do your shopping and everything so it's really easy.
And if you are interested in, you know being active or an or doing exercise and all that, we haven't activities and Recreation Center that actually has a lot of sports that you can do. We have a rock climbing wall. We haven't indoor like walking trail. You can also utilize our recreation pool if you like the water. If you like swimming and all that, we also have an outdoor volleyball court. So if you like the sand volleyball you can actually do that too. And if you like outdoor.
Yunci Zhao
10:14:32 AM
I think it is the internet problem
Dalia Wardany
10:14:44 AM
gotcha! dont worry, it's being recorded :)
Obviously California offers a lot of outdoor opportunities. We have outdoor adventures. We also have different centers that you can actually. We do have a lot of animals on our campus, so you can go to our crashing center if you wish to. Things like that. And of course now the topic about Cigna. Health awareness is really important on our campus. We offer you know different kind of services or student including a student help one center so you can actually if anything happened, you can actually contact our health and Wellness Center. You can actually go see a doctor there.
So you can definitely make sure that you know emotionally and physically that we care about you and wanted to make sure that we provide the best service for you. So to us, healthy students are happy students, so we definitely encourage you stay active wherever you end up going. I think is really important that you know that this is really important. That's of course now we know that you know only if you have healthy body that you can actually go and do different things and all that, right?
And we have a really strong school spirit in our school. Obviously, 'cause we're college town. So everything you know it involves by students. This false by UC Davis. Our students are really active in sports as well. So not only we have club sports intramural sports, we also have. We also an NCA division ones for school. So we have over 20 sports that are N CAA Division One. So if you are interested in, you know if you're interested in doing that, you can. Actually, if you're interested in.
Participate in our teens and things like that. You can actually go try out if you wish to. At this point. Of course you if you already admitted right. If you want to trial for our team, you can actually have your coach to contact our coach to make sure that they have that conversation, or if you just come on campus and you can try out for some of our teams. If you just want to do club sports and intramural sports, that's perfectly fine too.
Since we're a college town, there was a lot of different activities for our students. A lot of you as about like how is life in Davis? How is the weekend like things like that? Since we're college talent you have lot to do as in we have 800 student clubs that you can participate in. Whatever activities do you think you can think of? The 800 clubs will probably get you covered, but we also have movie theaters. We have a lot of food option in our downtown so if you like Asian food so.
Any you can whatever kind of Christina name, meant you probably have in downtown, so we also have a lot of milk. Tea places. I know some of you might like milty like I do like Boba, so you can definitely get your boa fix. We have a lot of other places. I'm in our downtown if that's what you enjoy and you will also be able to do you know, grocery shopping and things like that. No problem. We have a lot of really good international food sources within our town.
So you have heard me mention about, you know our community and things like that. You know I keep talking about their community. What does that really mean? So what it means is that we have a really good support for our sins, so of course we have academic support. So if you need some help in different classes we have tutorial. We have like tutoring services and things like that for different classes. And of course if you're alive well, I'm really good at certain subject. And if you already took a class and things like that later on, you can become a tutor for that.
Subject and you can make some money while sharing your knowledge and things like that. So that's really cool.
We also have different hum communities that for our students who are looking at different resources. Of course we have our undergraduate Research Center. We also have a cross Cultural Center. We also have a really big.
Student organization is our student government is called asked so it's one of the largest student organization you know in the nation as well. They also control one of the biggest budget for our campus. So under the student government there is school newspaper, radio station, television station, pantry, different kind of resources for our students as well. So if you're interested in getting your experience or if you already have student government experience and want to get that, you can definitely participate in our ASU CD.
And of course, you know when you are looking at our school and looking at different community. You might be asking a question is about housing because you'll be able to see that you know for housing that we have different kind of setup. So if your freshman if you brush your student you can actually come and live on campus first year students you can only live in residence. How as I saw some of you asking if you can live at the colleges in the rule and those are apartments so generally speaking freshmans are only mostly.
The residence Hall, so rather than whole style. So when you are choosing your housing like I said, it's one year guarantee housing you can definitely, you know they said if you want to live on campus or not, we do strongly encourage that because we are, you know, we're hoping that we'll be able to, you know, get that experience for you. And also about 90% of our freshman to live on campus. And if you're like, well, I also want to find different kind of supportive communities there. We also have to living learning communities.
So when you choose your housing, you can actually pick whichever community you identify most with you. Can you know then will try to set you up with a bunch of people who had the same kind of interest with you. So and also some of you ask if you can request a roommate. So for example, Dolly and I go to Valley and I are going to college together, right? So Dolly and I can request I will press me to be her roommate and I can request for it to be my roommate. It has to be neutral and also your preferences of housing has to be.
The same so if she prefers to live in one area, I would have to pick the same choices and things like that. Some of you also ask about single room, double room and triple room, and most of our housing setup is actually double or triple room. You can definitely request a single room will do our best to accommodate or housing. Office is doing the very best to accommodate whatever you know requests that you may have. But of course you know we would have to kind of see what demand that we have that we can accommodate. But like I said.
Jennifer Li
10:21:12 AM
Are freshmen still able to live in the apartments?
If you have a friend that is also going, or if you find a friend in the WhatsApp Group and things like that, you can actually even press each other to be roommates. If you wish to. And if you're like, well, I don't want to take a living learning community. You don't have to.
Dalia Wardany
10:21:41 AM
Jennifer, so many off-campus housing options too!
OK, so other than housing you will also find a community at orientation so we have orientation for everyone in September. So right before school started we will have orientation for everyone so it's time for you to meet everyone on campus, both on campus. Housing in orientation are not required. We also highly recommend you to participate if you wish to. We have programs for you to get to know our campus and for you to get to know different students every day that you need to do is appeared on your my emissions website.
So when you go to my emissions that used to giveus.edu, once you say yes to UC Davis then you will see a list of things that you have to do. Just make sure you follow the list is a shelved South checklist so you can definitely look through that and go through everything.
So when you are looking at choosing University, right? Like I said, You know there's a lot of things that you're considering, and I know this is nerve wrecking time. The best part is a lot of you have options, right? Because on top of getting into UC Davis I'm sure you got into a lot of really great universities as well, so I hope that you can complete your research. Make sure that you're looking for different environment that what you're looking for. The school has all has to offer to you, but what you need really need to do is. I also encourage you to talk to some of our current students.
Dalia Wardany
10:22:58 AM
Cus UC Davis is awesome! :)
Or different people that have walked in through the schools that you were interested in to kind of get the experience. Because to be honest, like both Dolly and I will work for UC Davis, so we definitely, you know, enjoy Suzi Davis. But we you know, like other schools, we don't have experience. If you're asking us to compare different uses, we can tell you, you know there are different universities offering different things, but within the UC campuses, right? I'm sure a lot of you got into Dave is also going to some other campuses, and some of you have asked you.
For us to compare, I would say it's really hard to compare right? If some of you have siblings might know what I've been saying, is it fair for me to say that you were the same as your siblings? It's not right so the same for us Davis where sister campus with other campuses, LA Berkeley, San Diego, all those different UC campuses right? When one family. So it's really hard to compare. You know which one is better in this one. I want to say that if you see have our own personality, you have to find you have to go to the one that fits your personality. and I would say we are personally that our students are really smart.
Hum, when you look at our academic performance, but at the same time we are not super, you know.
Cathro that super competitive, we're still really friendly. We like to help each other out so make sure that you know you are comparing what you need. You're looking for what you need, and then I hope you'll be able to find the 5th that you're looking for.
So if you do decide to follow through and come to UC Davis that I see some of you already said yes to us. Thank you. Welcome to the family. If some of you are still considering, you'll be able to see a list of events on the screen right now that is happening, so you probably can see. So you already participate in this weapon, or you can attend different webinars if you want to just get a sense of like you know, other people are asking questions and things like that. You're more than welcome to register for more than one Wagner Ann.
Next week on actually we have what we call the Aggie experience life so different department's so different departments are going to showcase different services and things like that on our Aggie. Experience life. So if you haven't registered for that, I definitely encourage you to and then you still have a little less than a month to decide if you want to come to UC Davis or you see at all. I'm a fresh. You would have to decide. So again on your my emissions you see this.edu, you will be able to see all the things you need to do.
And then there is the deadline for housing. and I know a lot of you have questions about official transcript test scores and everything, so that line are there. We try to be as flexible as we can. We also understand that some of you might have school close until the end of year, so you might not be able to get your graduation diploma and things like that. What we ask you to do is to go to your my emissions account on the right hand side. You'll be able to see there's a way for you to. If your schools and your transcript is impacted.
Bike over 19. You'll be able to submit, you know, let us know over there. Just click on it and then tell us when to expect your documents or when they're coming in and we try to be as flexible as we can, so make sure you follow that timeline and tell us before if you know that not going to happen and things like that. And then of course orientation is in September 25th, 20, nine and then I should start right after that.
OK, so I know I talk really fast. I know there's a lot of information. The only reason. Well, I usually talk fast, but the only reason why I'm talking fast is because there's going to be a lot of time for you to answer for me to answer your questions. Also, right now I want you should before I move onto answering more questions. I want you to take out your phone.
And for students who are in China we have created we chat groups for students who are not using we chat. We also have different WhatsApp group. So on my next few slides I'll be sharing the QR code for you to join the groups. If you are interested in joining. So the first slide that I'm going to share, it's going to be student groups, so there's also going to be my we chat on contact there if you wanted to add me as a friend. So when you add me as a friend, you have to tell me your student ID number and your full name, and then I'll accept your request and then if you have any questions you want.
Ask me there and then in the student group, you definitely can share with your questions. Have you have for other people and things like that on the second slide, so I'm going to share is going to be a parent group, so I don't know how many of you have your parents next to you right now. If they're interested in joining parents group. If they wanted to, just, you know, see what other questions parents have and when we can all travel again when you do come to our campus. Write a lot of times that parents will want to help. Seems to make travel arrangements and all that, and you can do all that, right?
Luoning Zhang
10:27:44 AM
Will summer start still be hold on campus?
I hope you all have your phone ready and then after the we chat I would have the WhatsApp Group QR code so we have an international group. We also have Asia Aggie group so if you want to join whichever ones you want to join I'd say the more you talk to people but better that helps you to find you know your best fit University and make sure that you make good choices.
So this is the page for the we chat group, so if you're interested in joining we chat.
And this is for the class of 2024, so this is for students. And then on the right hand side. That's my we chat. So if you wanted to add.
Me as well make sure like I said, make sure if you're adding me your student ID number and your name and if your appearance wanted to add me that perfectly fine. Do they have to tell me who they are? You know who is their student ID, so I'll be able to accept the friend request.
Alright, so I hope you all are able to get the we chat code.
You can't see the QR code.
Man Ching Audre Chiu

Can everyone see the QR code now?

Yijun Shi
10:29:08 AM
it's good now
Well, if you can see it will be able to email it to you later too if you wish.
And then let's see OK, perfect you can see now, OK, or we can.
OK, the next one is the parents group.
And that was with my we chat. So if your parents wants to join.
Or just take a picture and then send it to your parents. They can join it. A lot of parents find the we check group helpful because they get nasty that each other questions and I make the parents and student groups to be separated only because I know a lot of times that students isn't like their parents after question in front of everyone and all that. So I've been doing separate groups for years.
Please don't please only go into their groups that you're supposed to be in. OK, I'm assuming you're ready. We're moving on to the week. I'm sorry the WhatsApp Group.
OK, so well I am showing the screen. Let me know in the chat if you want us to, you know show that we share code again but these are the WhatsApp group so I'll be starting addressing any of the questions that you may have. OK first question, will summer start still be hold on campus? So as of now?
Yes, but we don't really know where monitoring the situation closely, so as many of you may know that spring quarter is actually being held online. Right now we're having conversations about summer, so I think the chancellor just shared an update yesterday. That summer is likely to look to be online as well. So so when you sign up for summer start, you will be able to feel you know, connect with the Somerset summer staff.
Summer start stuff sorry.
Share the most updated information with you so it's really completely your choice. If you want to join summer start or not I would say if you want to stay longer at home since you know due to this situation right now, you're more than welcome to do so. Summer start is completely optional, so you don't have to register Fred and things like that. If you don't want to. It's perfectly fine, so summer start they will keep you posted if they are being going to be helped or not.
So next question, what's the weather like in California? So in Davis we have about 265 days of sunshine, so it's pretty good. I say overall California we had really good weather in the summer Davis to get really hot 'cause we're a little more inland so.
But I would say that you'll be fine because California is not as humid as Asia. Phil is mostly dry heat, so you'll be OK. And then we do get some rain in the winter time. We don't actually get enough rain overall in California.
But generally speaking, I would say the winter there's a couple weeks that's going to be rain and they'll gloomy. But overall I would say are more. There's really good.

Hi San & Dalia, in your opinion how is the food on campus on a rate of 1 to 10? Also, are pets allowed at the residence hall?
OK, changing majors, so I know. Let's see I know we have a lot of questions about changing major changing majors are loud and not right now. So now you are being emitted to UC Davis with a certain major. So we're not going to be able to.
We're not going to be able to change your major right now, so you will have to come on our campus and then you will have to talk to advisors to from your college or from the college you intended change, too. I want to same any change of majors are doable. It takes a lot of planning. It takes a lot of effort, but once you talk to your major advisor or college advisors off your intendant change of major, you'll be able to do so. So make sure you just being on top of your appointments and talk to your advisor, though it would help you out that right now you cannot do it.
Until you finish your first quarter at UC Davis.
Dalia Wardany
10:33:23 AM
Don't be shy guys...feel free to ask any questions on your mind! :)
OK, so I also know there is. Let's see. There's some questions about double majoring and double minoring. The same the same idea, right? Well, if you're an engineering major, I would say you probably would not have enough units for time to actually do a double major, and then other colleagues and things like that. So I would say you know you can do probably pick up a minor and things like that, but if you want to again, double major change, a major, have a minor. You're more than welcome to talk to your major advisor and they will help you out.
And let's see, oh, OK, hi Stan and Dalia in your opinion. OK, how is the food on campus on the rate of 1 to time? Also, are pets allowed in the residence Hall so paths are as far as I know, dalia correct me if I'm wrong, I want to say pets are not allowed unless is the emotional support. Like if you have proof that you needed emotional support it more of like a medical situation then you will be allowed to have pets, but generally speaking.
You can't have pets. I think they might have limitation on what kind of pets you might probably. You can have a fish or something.
That's probably but the best is to check with housing because I think they have limitation or what kind of pets.
And then how is the food so the food I want to say. Overall food and Davis is pretty great dining common, which is part of your housing. So there's three areas through residence Hall, right? And each residents will actually have their own dining comment. They offer similar food and our dining common actually generally do a pretty good job in offering different type of Christine's buffet style. Right now we actually change that into more of an individual packings and things like that due to the virus.
But generally speaking we have buffet style and offer different kind of scenes. I would say one to 10. I want to say our campus food is like at like an 8 or 9 for me because I do really like fresh food and I think generally speaking California over really fresh food and a lot of times that.
The food are good when there fresh right so so that's what I personally like and I know also some of you asked about food recommendation in the town of Davis.
Dalia Wardany
10:35:45 AM
Philz Coffee :)
So, uhm, I personally like I really like Sushi, so my favorite places to eat at Mikuni's. There's also a burger place that I really like, so there's not different places. Dolly if you want to share any of your recommendation, but I would say our food scene is pretty good, and Davis in general and dining common. Like I said, there are different options. They also do different theme nights like Harry Potter night or like international night so they will have like it since you don't really like it. And then of course if you're a little bored with a seafood.
Call my food, then you can actually you know, explore downtown. Like I said, we have a lot of options there.
Junyue Chen
10:36:04 AM
Hi San and Dalia, will we still be able to start the first quarter on schedule under the influence of COVID-19?
Meirun Zhang
10:36:13 AM
Will it rain a lot in winter?
Hum, what kind of things do you do for fun? So I would say that our students are really active. Like I said, you know they like to go out door. They like to do sports exercise. We have a lot of place to hang out in downtown as well. So if you're interested, you know where a lot of coffee shops in a really like. I said movie theaters so you can actually do for fun.
Hanghe Cao
10:36:15 AM
wow, 8 or 9
Albert Chang
10:36:31 AM
Can you talk a little about the different housing complexes?
Let's see, um, so I would say soon as I usually occupied allows you to do a lot of outdoor activities on the weekends because we do get really good weather. And if you want to go explore like to bigger cities like San Francisco or things like that and all the Bay Area, we have lots of students with, you know, go around and hang out there to Sacramento is actually pretty cute too. Is really cute town.
That is our state capital of California, so there's a lot of things we have a really big art scene in Sacramento as well. If you're interested in that.
Next question. OK, so so as of now we are still hoping to start the first quarter in.
Hsin-Wei Chang
10:37:08 AM
for first year students who will be living on campus, do we need to buy the meal plan?? or can we cook on our own??
September so, but we don't know like how things are going to be like can we? Are trying to figure out options so because I've COVID-19 the first quarter schedule, we're not sure what's going to happen yet, but as of now that we are told about, you know that we are still planning to have everything on campus, but we don't know.
I will keep you posted if we have any updates on how are we going to start our first quarter and things like that.
Yijun Shi
10:37:40 AM
hi Dalia, my parents wanna check into thtis room from another computer. can they do tht?
Can I talk a little more about the different housing complex yes I'm so there's 3 areas like I mentioned so if you look at UC Davis map and things like that you'll be able to see that we are the 3 areas will actually on campus so there is portal is kind of at the edge of campus so it's really close to Trader Joe's which is a grocery store and also they are mostly sweet file for portal and then there is cisero to zero is actually the closest?
Residence Hall to most of our classrooms.
Dalia Wardany
10:38:10 AM
Yijun, not sure about that but don't worry, this webinar is being recorded so they can listen to it tomorrow :)
Yunci Zhao
10:38:34 AM
How can i get a American as a roommate in a large part?
But they also really close to our cows, so allow our students would be thinking about always smells and all that. But personally I actually live into Sarah. When I was a student game is it was OK like you kind of get used to it. And also I I like my sleep so I if I have an 8:00 AM Class I'll sleep until 7:35 you know and get ready to go to hospital. I like how close it into classroom. So ask yourself what is important to you and then there is also segundo window is really close to. It's actually right next to our recreation activity center so.
Ruoqi Yan
10:38:54 AM
Are we going to buy the “meal plan”, or can we go out to have food during the week?
Are you able to go workout? If you wish is really close to R. Like I said, I'm right. Activities and Recreation Center, so I would feel like 3 areas have different kind of.
You know their their own going like what's good about them and things like that, so make sure you know when you're choosing. Talk to your friends and see what they're thinking and all that.
Ruiling Qian
10:39:10 AM
Hi San Lee, do we have placement tests before studying in the first year? If you have, what is it about?
And then you can see also for different living learning community they might already have set up in different areas as well.
OK, so for students who will be living on campus, you need to buy meal plan. Or can we cook on our own? There will be shared kitchen you can actually cook on your own if you wish to an also you can also for the new plants you if you like to cook. If you're like me you like cooking then you can actually purchase new plans that has less meals or less dates on it so you can actually go for yourself if you wish.
But you're not required to buy meal plans, so after your first year say you just want some swipes for the dying common, you can actually buy some two. So when you're on campus, you can actually eat at the dining common if you wish, but it's completely up to you. And As for me.
I think once you get on campus you can actually change your meal plan. I think the first 10 days they are allowed for you to change your meal plans to different ones. If you like the food or if you're like I'm going to cook more for myself, you can change your meal plan. If you wish to, but I think it's a very early on the quarter. You have to decide.
OK, so how can you? OK so when you are choosing a roommate right? It's really hard to. So students are asking if they can, you know she's roommate. Based on that in this city and things like that, some students international student, you might want to get local students as your roommate and things like that you can put on the ring marks if that's what you would prefer, will do our best to accommodate that, of course is not guaranteed, so we do our best to kind of match whatever you need.
Albert Chang
10:40:56 AM
Can you talk more about the meal plans? I heard something about a swipe system
Yijun Shi
10:41:00 AM
thanks Dalia :)
Dalia Wardany
10:41:13 AM
:)
And then I'm so when you register, so sooner asking does the meal plan you do have to buy the meal plan and things like that. So in the dining comment there. So when you come to our school right, you will get a student ID and that soon ID is really important because it gets you into your residence Hall. It gets you into the active Fickian Recreation Center for free. It gets you into dining Commons so they will swipe your card when you are there and then.
You know when you go to the bookstore and when you want to purchase things. If you want to put in your account, you also use just an ID. So what it means is also for meal plan. When you register for your housing, you'll be able to choose which type of meal plan you want. Or do you want like however many days you want, or do you just want one meal a day and things like that? There's different kind of plans that you can choose from, so make sure that you are reading. You know when you're looking at the accommodation, things like that where the meal plan or if you bought one and then you decide to change later and things like that. So it's.
All going to be in the housing.
Application so read that.
So it's really up to you if you want to eat a dining common, or if you want to, you know.
Eat out, it's completely your call.

Hi Dalia, I'm the person who prefer to study in changing situation. So I'm curious that whether it is easy to transfer to other UC campus? Is it
And then the next question is do we have?
Do we have placement exam before studying in the first year? Yes, you will have play some exam for both English and math. You'll be able you will be getting emails from our different departments and they will tell you what place the next time we need to do. A lot of Times some of the placement exam is going to be on line some of the place when I'm going to be doing orientation it depends and some of you might need additional chemical placement. I'm chemical. I'm sorry. Chemistry chemistry placement exam. It depends on your major.
I'm so will be notifying you that Department will be notifying you that which placement exam you need.
Dalia Wardany
10:42:54 AM
Hi Haozhe...San's about to answer that one :)
Hanghe Cao
10:43:24 AM
Hello San Lee, I am wondering how do students apply for the scholarship. Thank u!
Some of you asked about health insurance. So um, so for insurance wise we would definitely recommend you to use our campus. Insurance is much easier so it will kind of it will go into your build automatically if you want to opt out, you can tell us that you want to opt out, but generally speaking with Ronnie Courage, you to use our health insurance that comes along with the.
With the On on your thumb.
With our sorry with our provider here. Uhm there were students asking about comparing UC Davis to other UC campuses or transferring to another UC campuses particularly OK. So you wanted to? OK, so you curious about whether it's easy to transfer to another UC campus. So generally speaking, transferring to another using campus is.
Jennifer Li
10:44:21 AM
Do our majors place limits on the specific classes we can take?
Um is doable is really rare, so most of our transfer student from to all the uses has a third year students. They're generally from over 90% of them are from California Community College, so you see too easy transfer. Its happens, like I said, but it's more rare. The reason why is because use these. We all four years accredited University were not designed to be transfer to each other so.
You can hump try by the articulation between uses. An community colleges are much better between them. Between UC CU CS because.
Dalia Wardany
10:45:02 AM
Hi Jennifer, each major has it's own requirements and structure..i'd look for your major's details here https://www.ucdavis.edu/majors
If you understand the transfer student system in California, is that when you transfer as a third year, you So what happened is that you will go into our school right? Complete your first year and the beginning of your second year. You will be transferring if you want to apply to transfer to another you see or another University you'll be applying in the beginning of your second year and then you will go in as a third year. So you'll be using your first year grades to transfer and a lot of times when you go to University you have to adapt to the environment and things like that.
Dalia Wardany
10:45:33 AM
Each major has a full-time advisor that can also guide you through the requirements to make sure you graduate on time
Generally speaking, it's not. You know it's not as feasible, or you might not be a checking their grades that you were looking too. So a lot of times that you might not be able to get the grades that you're supposed to or you hope to get to students from coming college is a little different. They were in a 2 year institution and they're all looking to transfer out. So what happens is that they would need a University go to afterwards. So a lot of times that you will see a lot of the Seas or transfer emitter rate is actually much higher than our freshmen immediate rate.
Because these students who ghosted Maine Harley shop repaired to go to UCR four year institution and these students from other U CS. If you are looking to transfer to another UC UC Davis might not have the prerequisites or P required courses that you need to take to transfer to another you see. So I personally do not encourage usage PVC transfer because you might miss the opportunity by missing a class because we might not offer the same as Community College or preparation classes for another UC campus. So I would.
I would if I were you, I would think a little more about it.
OK, so how do you see this? Apply for scholarship and so in terms of scholarship. As an international student, scholarships of mayor very very limited. So when you were looking at, you know.
Dalia Wardany
10:46:27 AM
The advisors usually like to see that students have a balanced class load..not too few or too many units to make sure you can be successful.
Applying so we have so under an college application. So under use the application it actually serves as the scholarship applications as well. So if you have gotten the merit based scholarship which is our Provost aware that you see Davis, you would already have been notified on the application. I'm sorry on the emission situation, so if you didn't see it on the admissions page, meaning you didn't get it, I'm so sorry. The fellowship is really competitive. We also one of the.
You use is that actually offer scholarships for international students, so unfortunately we were public school. We cannot offer as much scholarship as we wish to to international, out of state students.
Haozhe Luo
10:47:18 AM
got it, thanks~
Haozhe Luo
10:47:20 AM
thanks!!
So in terms of internships, right? Someone is asking where do you find an internship? So we have and like I said, we have an internship and Career Center so you can see. So you can definitely go to our intention krisanta to do that I let's see. So just I was just going to show you the screen again. So our internal query. So if you just go to UC Davis.
I believe their even their website isicc.ucdavis.edu.
Then you can actually see you know different types of jobs and internships, but you would have to log in as a student so you can see what your job is available there right now. But as a student you will get a lot of that resources once you locked into our ICC website.
Dalia Wardany
10:48:04 AM
https://icc.ucdavis.edu/
Yeah, other questions see.
Albert Chang
10:48:41 AM
Can you talk a little about the work study program?
Some of you have asked if the cover 19 crisis is still going on and you wanted to start next year. You can, so we have a deferred enrollment. So if you're interested in doing that on your mind missions account after you say yes to us, you'll be able to find that differ option. So UC Davis we allowed for you to differ for one year. We actually one of the few uses to actually do deferment as well, so if you are interested in that.
Yunci Zhao
10:48:46 AM
is there any possibility that we may have online class when it comes to the first semester , I mean September
Jennifer Li
10:48:51 AM
Thank you! I guess what I'm asking is, say for a fine arts major, are we still able to take political science class if we're interested?
Um, so when you are so so I would say that you know, if you are interested in the University but he wanted, ask if they're going to be differing, and if they generally don't differ during this kind of circumstance, they might so talk to the University you're interested in. But like I said, You Know in Davis we have one year deferment if you Wash.
OK, can I talk a little bit about work study program? So if your work study students, I'm imagining that you are AUS citizen.
Because that is only available for you as citizens. So if your international students that would be, you know a part-time job or internship more study with before American citizens that you would have to fulfill the requirements and things like that to be able to participate in work study.
If you're talking about a student job and things like that again on the ICC website, they would have a bunch of half student jobs on campus and things like that for you to look at.
Yes, so are there any activities or opportunities for UC students to join into rival students? Another UC campus? As a matter fact, yes, we have an enter campus visitor program. You can actually go to another UC campus to take classes for one.
Dalia Wardany
10:50:13 AM
Yes, absolutely..your general education requirements lets you take classes from all different departments :)
Order one semester one summer you cannot matriculate you cannot transfer it another you see like that but you can actually take classes we also have another program is called University of California in Washington DC also University of California in Sacramento so or if you want to go on a study abroad program 'cause these are the share program that all you shouldn't compare dissipate so if you participate in our study abroad or you CDC or you see Sacramento you'll be seeing a branch off you see different you see students.
And then like I said, the intercampus visitor program.
Jennifer Li
10:50:35 AM
Awesome :)
OK, can I explain what general education is? Yes I can. So general education. Generally speaking, your college education is about four years, right? So general education it would be so. It doesn't matter what your major is. You will be studying general education so it doesn't matter if you are a psychology major, history, major English major or computer science or chemical engineering, major or global disease, major or animal science major. Whatever you are right, you will be studying the same set of classes as everyone so meaning you still have to take math.
Wangyang Kong
10:51:28 AM
Hi Dalia, the UCD require me to submit the sat before July 1, but now I do bot have way to take the sat exam. So can this date be delyed?
English science is even if you don't like math, you still have to take some math classes or US history classes, or some art classes and things like that. So general education is usually your first year and half first 2 years of college education, and that what that really do is that we want to make sure that you are well rounded. You have, you know, the foundation you know of everything. You are also aware of. You know if you want to change of major say if you are computer science major but you are really actually interested in our.
Uh, put science major. You can take a class in food science and see what you like and sometimes it will fulfill your general education requirement as well. So I would say general education is for you to help you to get a taste of their friends subjects. It's also for you to get a good foundation of being a well rounded student.
Alright, so I don't see anymore questions. Anyone has any last minute questions?
Albert Chang
10:52:25 AM
Hi Dalia, is it possible to complete undergraduate in 4 years by using AP tests to gain credits?
Man Ching Audre Chiu
10:52:39 AM
What percentage of your classes are taught by professors?
OK, so the question is about AP credit, right? So if you want to you so for AP and IB and a level students, you might be able to transfer some of your API DRA level credits into your degree.
Albert Chang
10:52:58 AM
I meant less than 4 years
Generally speaking, you know or we will have you know, different AP classes or IB courses that is qualified to be able to change for units so you can use some of that unit and then it will kind of give you an advance. You know head start on your college units.
Furi Xiang
10:53:04 AM
Hi San Lee, may I know more about the aviation club?
Dalia Wardany
10:53:31 AM
here's our AP chart https://local-resources.ucdavis.edu/local_resources/docs/APIBCharts/APCurrent.pdf
And also for AP or IB or a level, there's limitations on if you have the same subject in different tests or exams, you can only use one of 'em, so you know if you plan it to take an AP exam already and then you already got the, you know the scores and things like that will be able to transfer that. And for IB students will I mean I know you're high schools are working with my bio to help you to get units and things like that, so we'll keep a close eye on that. And whatever we need from you.
It's on your mission conditions, so make sure you go over that and then, um, AP and IB and a low credits will be transferred into your units. I usually take us awhile to get it, so you probably won't see it before you come to our school, but we will be working on it.
Um, let's see what percentage of your classes are taught by professors, all our classes, how professors. So what it means is that some of your classes that could be bigger, for example, for your calculus first calculus class, it could have a couple 100 people in there, and then we will have smaller tutorial classes. I stop by the TH, but generally speaking or classes on top by the professor and all professors are required to have office hours. So even now our spring quarter, everything is online, right? But our professor should actually.
Having online office hours to be available for students to ask any of the questions they have and things like that. So I would say.
You know it depends on the class, but generally speaking, most of our classes taught by professors.
OK, someone is asking more about the aviation club, so I so the aviation club if you just let me see if I can find a link for that.
Hsin-Wei Chang
10:54:54 AM
What grade do we need to get on the AP test in order to transfer the credit??
Oh, let's see, but maybe should publish a stream club for our students. So if you are interested in getting like a flying permit and things like that, you will be able to do that.
We will get through the link for the aviation club, yeah, you can go through the Aviation Club. To actually learn how to find airplane and get a pilot license have a students a few years ago. Originally from Taiwan actually got his pilot license. He was a psychology major and when he graduated from UC Davis. I think two years ago, he found a job he actually was able to fly a psychiatrist throughout the nation to see patients so he kind of combined 'cause like I said he's the undergrad.
Like major and then he love aviations also he finally became a pilot for psychiatrist. So kind of combined his passion so you can learn to how to find an airplane and aviation. But those airplanes are tiny. It was all like two to four people 8 N plane and I have seen we haven't 'cause we have the airport there. You will be able to see a lot of small airplanes there and all that. It's really cool.
What's my favorite thing about UC Davis?
Dalia Wardany

I want to say if I had to pick one thing is really the people. Everyone is really friendly Indians since Day One I got there to be honest with you when I was y'all I was when I was deciding between different schools and things like that. Davis wasn't my top choice 'cause I was like. Well I grew up in Hong Kong so Dave is a small town for me and I was thinking I'm not sure if I you know would enjoy it. But I always wanted to go to schools that has a campus that has different facilities and things like that has space and all that so.
I decided to give it a try the first time I went to Davis. I was a little well, I was late for the campus tour. I'm supposed to go on a campus tour and I missed it. So I got a map from the visitor center and just like look around and trying to figure out you know what I should do and things like that. And there was a biker that stop and asked me if I needed help, you know, and I wasn't used to people being so friendly and you know to mean growing up in Asia 'cause you know.
We don't do that when people come close to you and you don't know that you back up right? So I was like a little has been said and I'm that person was like, oh, do you need help but you're looking for something. I was like no, no, no, I'm good right? And then I was like walking and a second person came to me. A second biker came to me. They stop again and asked if I needed help. So I was like OK, this is really a thing in this campus and I just, you know it wasn't used to the friendliness. So then I just really get to know like how Davis is. I think it's a community. The people.
I really like the most because I mean.
Dalia Wardany
10:57:51 AM
Wangyang, here's some information about your question https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/response-covid-19.html
I think any University is you know, like with a in the US. In general they would, you know, have different buildings. You know the space and everything I think is really the people that you can't change right? And it's really the people that makes a difference. So that's my favorite thing about data.
Oh, and I met my husband there too, so that's that's a bonus for me. I'm not telling you all that you can find your better half there, but that was for me so.
Jennifer Li
10:58:24 AM
Could you elaborate on the switch from a big city to college town?
Um, can I elaborate on the switch from yes? Of course I am from a big city to college town, so when I you know like growing up in Hong Kong, everything is a convenient, nor that I just, you know, couldn't picture it. So until I actually see the campus, then I actually realized that the school is running to downtown, so that convenient kind of I can relate that I can, just, you know, in between classes or work I can just go to downtown Grand King, drink MENA, front. I think it's mostly that you know.

My major is engineering do I need to take some courses like English literature or history?
If you have an urge to go, you know, eat out at like 10:00 AM sorry. 10:00 PM your options will be more limited than if you were to be in Asia. Now I want to say Arctic out like services are picking up so there's lots of different deliveries and all that back in the days when I was a student in Davis there weren't as many Asian food. I love my rice so I just have to eat my rice.
Haozhe Luo
10:59:35 AM
are AP credits still valuable under this year's special circumstance?(45Minutes/ open note version)
So that was challenging. We only had a few Chinese restaurant there back done, but I want to say, you know now it just got better. We have a few hot pot places. We have different kind of Chinese for seeing different kind of Asian cuisine so is better now and I think just to switch off. Like you know people actually there was actually people are saying that you know David Zillow quiet but when you are students there are actually lots of activities that you can participate.
Uhm, you know you can participate and you can. You know they're different parties if you wish or they were different activities. So I would say you kind of get used to that and I think during the week you kind of have to.
Plan things ahead, right? So so I would, you know, usually plan out my week I'm at work and all my things and then on the weekend. You know I would just, you know, either hang out. My friends are going to the Bay Area and things like that, so I kind of like that. Balance out the big city in a college town because I personally enjoy, you know, biking around and just going out door and that space that air you can't beat that. I don't think you can find many places and even within the UC system where the only college town that actually.

Haozhe, we know the situation is unusual right now but for the most part the UC will honor and validate the AP exam score if it's authorized by the College Board
You know is relatively saver. I'm not guaranteeing anyone safety now you have to make good choices. Don't go out to eat at 11:00 PM and that's not very smart.

are AP credits still valuable under this year's special circumstance?(45Minutes/ open note version)
I'm so you know, I think really ask yourself if you wanted to have the environment and the supportive community and things like that. That's what that's why. We're special, I think.

Could you please share one story with your professor?
OK, my majors engineering. do I need to take some courses like English literature or history? So if you're so any or any major right? Generally speaking you have to take classes from different social science or so within within the social science within the social science.

Hahah
So yeah, you can actually pick, so it doesn't have to be English literature. So say within the US, I'm sorry within the history, right? You can pick US history from this time at that time, or like more relative to you and things like that. So there are different things that you have to take. And then I'm telling you, this is the same for any University. Go to for general education. Say like I told you I hated math right? So I took my last math class was statistics and I think I got a B minus in it.

Do I need to own a car to go out of Davis? Are there any public transportation options out of Davis?
And I to me be minus, you know, as an Asian like it's a fail right to a lot of parents. For me, my B minus was an A plus than my parents. You know I have to tell my mom to like even going to college. I was telling my mom like I gotta be. Minus I, you know, in my stack class and she wasn't. She didn't believe it because she was like Well, you been felling in all your life for math. But I still have to take it and I actually utilized so tutorial center. If you know for my math, so I'd say don't worry too much about you know.
Articular classes you have to take because they usually have a series of class you can take within their the subject, so you can find the ones that you're most interested in.
OK Alright, so last question how can I share story of my professor? Of course soma hey um, let's see so my favorite professor, she's retired right now her. It was my communication professor. I was a communication major when I was in Davis. So my I have classes with this professor, three different classes with this for faster. She actually came from carpet background as she talked about interpersonal communication in speech communication.

Hi Furi, you definitely do NOT need a car in Davis! We all get around either walking, on bikes or using the student-run public bus system called Unitrans (that's included in your fees) :)
I ran into her when I was eating in downtown one night at Thai food and she was, you know, just walked in and she was ordering food and I was there and I didn't think she would recognize me. You know, because I mean obviously I took. I loved her cast and I took three classes with her. But you know, I think a lot of times there are so many students for professors, but she actually recognized me and she was like hey, do you want to, you know, get together so we end up eating together and I think is only in a college town environment like Davis that you would see professors like that they would.
Hang out in a town that will be the same restaurants that you go to and such, so I personally think it's really cool. And so I really think you should. You know when you're looking at different professors to know that, look at their teaching style. Go to the office hours, get to know them because I think it's really important that you know you go to class early through. That's how is how students that is that even if our class, our class could have 100 people or 200 people.
If you go to class early right, you will see in the front row and that's how you get to, you know, know your professor and also pay attention in class and that's how my professor know me too, because I always go to class early. I will sit in the front row.
So that's that's kind of how it how. How was OK, alright, so I think this is our time together.
