Good evening, welcome to UC Davis. My name is Jamila Brown and I am an officer in the financial aid office.
Uh, this presentation includes some important things that you need to know in order to receive aid for fall. There is closed captioning available in the top corner.
If you need that option and let's go ahead and get started, I'm at the end. We will have some time for some questions and we also have JSON Bringin Sandeep in the chat.
Um, who can also help with questions throughout the presentation?
The presentation will be posted on the transfer web and our page tomorrow.
Typically you'll see us around the campus giving presentations at our budget, can't event, which is a big financial Wellness event where we help students put together their budget for the academic. Here with the quarter you'll see us at facts or J Mac nights. You'll also see your period visors around the campus doing webinars.
Right now they're doing virtual advising and typically they do tabling as well.
Our agenda for today includes will talk a little bit about the types of data that are available.
We'll talk a little bit about my awards, which is a system where you can see what aid you have an complete any incomplete requirements.
We'll talk a little bit about the scholarship process.
If your family has a special circumstance, we have a few appeals that you can submit.
To see if we can give you any additional aid.
Will review the privacy policy.
And talk a little bit about what we can and cannot share by phone or email.
And then at the end, we'll have some important dates that you need to keep in mind over the next few months.
OK, so we have a variety of types of data available depending on your eligibility you may qualify for grants. The federal grants, which includes the Pell Grant, the LG Grant state grants, which would include the middle class scholarship and the Cal Grant institutional grants, which we call University grants. There's also loans which we look at as an investment in your future. Typically, students get about.
5500 for the academic year in loans.
We have a work study program where students can work on or off campus an urn funds.
To either go towards their education or to use for their other educational expenses, and we offer scholarships. So for scholarships your UC application is your application for scholarships for the first year that you come in.
After you're here in the fall, you will need to complete the scholarship application for the next academic year.
OK, let's talk a little bit about my words. So as I stated earlier, this is the system that we use to let you know what age you have been offered and is also where we.
Missed any incomplete requirement, so this is the first page that you see when you go in there. It's the summary page. So on this page you can see a summary of the financial aid that you've been offered. You can see what your cost of attendance is listed as or whether you're an on campus student and off campus student commuter student, and that determines what your budget will be for the academic you.
And we package you accordingly. Any important notices for office will be listed here.
And just make sure you keep an eye on these to make sure that you're not missing anything.
At the bottom of the page you'll see a breakdown by quarter.
Financially, that you'll receive for that quarter. And so this student, you can see that they're receiving a variety of grants and loans.
The totals for the academic year.
You'll notice that summer is not listed here, and summer would come up come later on. So if you're interested in taking summer courses next year.
You would just need to make sure you're enrolled in at least 6 units and we would automatically package you with Aiden. Then you'll see a new column that shows up here that would include summary.

I completed my Entrance Interview for federal subsidized loans nearly two weeks ago, yet MyAwards still says it's incomplete. I confirmed that I completed it and sent it in on my Federal Student Aid page a few days ago. Is this normal?
OK, on the next page in my words with this deal web page here you need to make sure that you have accepted any offer day that you want to take for the academic year. Grants are automatically accepted because we assume you know everybody wants to free money loans. You will have to accept and so make sure if you do want to take your loans going there except them. If you don't want to take them, you can decline them and you can request them later on. If you do decide that you need them.
Jason Choi
06:07:22 PM
Hi Jill, the loan requirements will not satisfy until after July 1st, the official beginning of the 2020-2021 Academic Year.
But also keep an eye on the requirement status section, because if there's anything that's incomplete for that aid, that financial aid fund will not disperse.
OK, here on the requirements tab you'll see a breakdown of the different types of requirements, and then if you click on the links it will take you to the page to complete those requirements. Most of the forms that we have, our online forms and so you can complete them online. If you have questions, please reach out to us and we can help you complete those requirements. Make sure to do this as soon as possible so that there will not be a delay in receiving your funds in the fall.
OK, under the remaining cost, you'll be able to see the breakdown of your estimated financial aid.
Jason Choi
06:08:11 PM
If you completed the requirements before July 1st, you may have completed the requirements associated with the 2019-2020 academic year, so my advise is to wait and re-complete the requirements after July 1st.
This includes the cost of attendance, soul, as I was mentioning earlier, it's broken down.
Based on appearance on campus student, if you're an off campus, stood in. If you're a commuter student, or if you're a non resident students. So just go in there and make sure that you have the correct costs of the tenants because your financial aid packages based on that cost of attendance.
And how we package students. We take your cost of attendance. We subtract your contributions, which includes your expected family contribution, RFC for short. And we also subtract yourself. Help the student cell phone.
And that's how we determine what your need is, and so.
Typically, students are packaged up to their need with the grants, loans, and scholarships.
And you can see the breakdown of that here. So the remaining cost would be what is left over after we've subtracted your financial aid from your a package.
OK in August and sit in Accounting Office will send out your fault bill, typically around the 22nd at the month.
At that time you can click click on the check current balance button.
And that will link you to your my Bill Page, which is a student accounting page.
Laura Hafer
06:09:40 PM
Can we discuss getting financial aid for summer sessions?
At that time, you'll be able to compare your financially to your actual charges. That will show up on your account. Some of those charges will include tuition and fees housing. If you're living in an on campus option, or one of the University owned properties. The document theme which is used for printing, making copies of your transcripts, and the student health insurance, so you will have to choose health insurance option. Whether you use your own or use the university's health insurance plan.
But at that time you'll be able to compare your charges to your A and determine if you have enough to cover your bill.
Elisse White
06:10:26 PM
When will we find out if we received any scholarships?
This is an example of the remaining cost, so for this today you can see that their tuition and fees was $4886. There housing for double occupancy was $3475. They have the Seven day meal plan they chose to use the university's health insurance plan and they have their document being so those are the charges that are showing on their account.
Breanne King
06:10:58 PM
Elisse - scholarships will be awarded towards the end of summer. You will be notified via email if you are awarded any UCD scholarships.
And so we take that we minus the financially that they're receiving, so their authorized grants, meaning they've completed all of the requirements. There's nothing outstanding, so this aid is authorized and ready to go. So this student has the Cal Grant they have the Pell Grant. They have the University campus feed grain and they also have a small portion of the University Grant. So we minus that financial aid and that equals the remaining costs of 5144.
I'm dollar so some other options that they can use to help cover that remaining costs include.
Weam Chrabakh
06:11:20 PM
Is there a page on the website that breaks down what the different types of loans are and what they mean?
They are subsidized, unsubsidized loan. The Parent plus loan, which is alone for dependent students.
And they also are getting an outside scholarship and they have a little bit and personal savings that are going.
Jason Choi
06:11:37 PM
Hi Laura, this presentation goes over financial aid for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. If you have questions on financial aid eligibility for the 2020 Summer, please make sure that you have filed out a 2019-2020 FAFSA or California Dream Act Application and visit our website at: https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/types/summer for more information regarding Summer Session financial aid
Sandeep Kaur Rai
06:11:45 PM
Hi Weam, you can find more information about loans here: https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/loans/undergraduate
Their account for the remaining 1981, the student can sign up for the deferred payment plan before the fee payment deadline or if they have another way to pay it. So say their family decides that they can pay that amount, they would just need to make that arrangement with the student accounting office prior to the fee payment deadline of September 15th. It's really important that they meet that deadline because if the fees are not paid by the 15th and if there.
Payment plan in place. The student can be dropped from the class their classes, so it's really important that.
Make sure that that is taken care of before the fee payment deadline of September 15th.
OK, so let's talk a little bit about outside resources and important links. So at the bottom of your words tab, there are several important links, including the change in aid request.
Kate Johnson
06:12:23 PM
Hello, I am no longer looking for housing the next quarter, what should I do to signify to myAwards that I have made this change?
Jason Choi
06:12:42 PM
Hi Kate, as Jamila is currently reviewing, please submit a Change in Aid Form to our office via your MyAwards page.
And the third party authorization form with the change in aid request. This is to make changes to your financial aid. So say you're living on campus and you decide you want to move off campus. You'll complete the change in aid form office for our office and we would revise your a package from an on campus to off campus student if you need to make changes in your moment. So if you're going from full time to part time, you complete this form. If you need to report an outside scholarship, veteran benefits anything like that, any outside resource?
You use the change in eight form to let us know that you're making this change, and it's really important that you check in with our office and make sure that you understand how this will affect your financial aid before you make the change, because every change that's on here will affect your financially, so it's really important to just check in with us prior to making that change.
The third party authorization form is also important in this form is important.
Because, um, without this one, we cannot talk to anyone about your financial aid.
Anyone besides you? So it's really important that.
You complete this third party authorization form.
So if you have, for example, a parent that's calling in to talk to us about your financial aid will need their passcode.
And then we'll be able to talk to them about your financial aid.
Jill Charles
06:14:21 PM
Okay, thanks! Is there any way to access Handshake for work-study on a Windows desktop? I tried to find it in the Microsoft app store but it wasn't there, and the Google Play store won't allow me to install it on my PC.
Jason Choi
06:14:25 PM
Hi Jill, if you have questions regarding the Handshake application, please visit the Internship and Career Center (ICC) website: https://icc.ucdavis.edu/find/resources/handshake or call them at 530-752-2855. Thank you.
OK, as I mentioned earlier, your scholarship application for this fresh air that you're coming in is also your application for admissions, and so our scholarship office will use your admission application to determine what types of scholarships you qualify for and they will be awarding those scholarships throughout the summer. And so if you do receive any of those scholarships, you'll be notified through your my words and also through your UC Davis email. So keep an eye out for that and also apply for.
Any applicable outside scholarships? There's all kinds of scholarships out there that go unused each year because students don't apply, and so it's really important that you know. Check out our outside scholarship link. You can filter by different categories and apply.
There's a lot of different scholarships that are given. Some of these are for many different interests, many different qualifications and talents. Many don't have academic needs.
I'm sorry academic, I need requirements so most of them are merit based.
And they do take time to search for, so make sure you take the time to do that. You can search as I was mentioning earlier on our scholarship portion of our web page. You can also check in with your local and national organizations or clubs and corporations an there's an example of a few search engines here. Fast web and Google where you can look for outside scholarships as well.
If you have an outside scholarship and that needs to be mailed in, this is our cashier's office. I'm address of where to send it too, and the payment should be accompanied by a memo stating your name and your UC Davis student ID number.
Cham Said
06:16:17 PM
Is there a deadline I have to accept/reject any loans offer by ?
OK, so for our appeals typically there available starting in October, but this year we're starting a little earlier because of everything going on with COVID-19. So our family contribution appeals. So this would be for special circumstances. So if there's a change in your family's financial situation.
You can submit a family contribution appeals starting in July.
And we can review your a package to seeing.
If you can qualify for any additional grant where I just know alone, keep in mind that these appeals to do take typically a few weeks to process, and so if you do have a special circumstance to make sure to get that into as soon as you can.
There's the link there to get to that appeal. We also offer documenting additional expenses, so this would be for expenses that exceed the standard budget that you see in your my words. So remember the cost of attendance that I mentioned earlier that includes tuition and fees, books that supplies transportation, personal expenses. So if any of the any of your expenses exceed what we've already allocated you within your cost of attendance, you can submit this documenting at additional expense appeal.
To see if you can qualify for any additional loan.
Sandeep Kaur Rai
06:17:40 PM
Hi Cham, we generally recommend that students accept their loan(s) and complete the requirements at least three weeks before the Fall Fee Payment Deadline which is September 15th.
Sandra Castanon
06:17:52 PM
Hi, is there any way we can speak with a financial aid counselor one on one?
Um, circumstances that we've looked at and reviewed for these appeals include additional rent. They can be, transportation expenses, out of pocket, medical expenses. It can also include expenses that are required for your education.
OK, our student privacy policies so.
Jason Choi
06:18:26 PM
Hi Sandra, if you would like to speak to a financial aid representative, please feel free to give our office a call at 530-752-2390 between 10 am and 2 pm, Monday through Friday.
As I mentioned earlier that their party authorization form is needed to talk about your financial aid with anyone besides you, and this is because of the family educational rights and Privacy Act of 1974. We have to have your written consent to talk to anyone else besides you about your financial aid. So if your any of your family members or parents will be calling in to speak to us about your financial aid, please make sure you complete the third party authorization form.
I mean give them the pass phrase that you create for them. They'll need that pass, raised your knee. Sorry, don't need your information. So your student ID number, data birth an the passphrase order for us to talk to them about your financially.
You can complete this form through your my awards page.
OK, so some of the information that we can release with a third party authorization form includes general financial aid information. This includes consumer information, timelines and processes, financial aid options. It also includes non financial aid application data on this includes the status of pending, incomplete or completed document, so this would include the requirements that you see on your my words page. We can talk about.
The status of your financial aid appeal, loan documents and processing. So if there's any questions regarding any of those documents, we can talk about those.
As long as we have that their party authorization form on file.
Meleny Diaz
06:19:57 PM
What is the May 15 deadline for loans? I thought that this was the deadline to accept loans?
My phone we can discuss where to find and how to access information, so if there's any questions about your my words if you need help with your student aid report, which is the report that we get from your faster California G Mac application. If you have questions about my bill or the IRS, we can help you with those. Those questions. We can also confirm data that we receive from your accent.
A more generic application that has already been provided by the caller.
We can provide the status of non facile or non dramatic application data and we can provide general information on the financial aid process. So this includes processing time.
Kenzo Morabia
06:20:23 PM
Sorry, where did you say that we can complete the third party authorization form?
Status of documents and review. Those are the kind of things that we can talk by phone.
My phone we cannot discuss with their own specific financial aid figures and out and.
So this would include the expected family contribution.
Jason Choi
06:20:53 PM
Hi Meleny, the May 15 deadline is the deadline to have loans disburse for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. However, as Sandeep mentioned earlier, we recommend that you accept your loans at least 3 weeks prior to when you want the loan to disburse into your account.
Number this would include award amount values listed on the faster California G Mac application, so this would be like specific information, so like the adjusted gross income taxes paid, we can't give specific information like that by phone and we cannot talk about refund amounts.
Jill Charles
06:21:05 PM
On MyAwards for work-study it says $3,500. Is this the maximum I can earn from work-study per academic year?
Some important dates include October 1st, which will be the opening date for the FAFSA. California J Mac application and scholarship application for the 2020 one 22 academic year. These applications are always done a year.
Sandeep Kaur Rai
06:21:39 PM
Hi Kenzo, you can access the Third-Party Authorization Form on your MyAwards. You will find it under the 'Awards' tab under the Important Links.
In advance, and so when stones open. If you need help with any of those, we do have faxing in California. J Mac application nights where you can come and get help completing your fatso or your California make application. We can also give you assistance with the scholarship application. So if you have questions, please reach out to us and we'll help you with any of those questions. January is when the scholarship application will be do.
And the fashion California J Mac application that.
Jason Choi
06:22:03 PM
Hi Jill, due to limited Work-Study funding that we receive each year, the $3,500 is initial amount that you are awarded. Any excess would be on an exception, first-come-first-serve basis upon request from your employer.
Yes, between October 1st and March 2nd, March 2nd is a really important deadline. I'm especially because you're coming in as a chance for student. We don't have an additional deadline in September, so March 2nd is our deadline. Are priority deadline for the fasana California Mac application. So it's really important that you submit by that deep so that you don't lose any funding that you may qualify for.
We have a financial Wellness program called the Aggie Blue tickled financial Wellness program. An with this program are period visors throughout the year. Do different things for the students and so they have one on one of biasing so you can come in and get help putting together your budget for the year. They can answer any financial questions that you may have.
Sabrina Edward
06:22:52 PM
Is there a special form for dingle parents to request more aid?
Jason Choi
06:23:14 PM
Sabrina, for more information regarding student parents, please visit the Worklife and Wellness webpage: https://hr.ucdavis.edu/departments/worklife-wellness/student-parent.
They also help us put together a budget can't event which is our big financial one. It's a bit for the year and so we basically walk you through the process of putting your budget together. You get fake money. That's like monopoly money and you go through and pay for different things that would show on your budget. So things like rent, housing, health, insurance, food. So at each table you're basically giving a little of that money.
As you're putting together your budget for the quarter.
Galilea Jauregui
06:23:29 PM
Is there a penalty if we have not yet submitted our fasfa information yet. Or is there a date where we have to submit all our FINACIAL aid requirements by .
And by the end you put together your budget for the corner.
We pass out snack bags around finals to help you study and keep your mind on your studies.
Financial one is program this year because of everything going on with Covad. Our workshops on money management have been virtually workshops and so our periods are working hard to plan for the New Year and putting together a few new virtual workshops. So keep your eyes open for that. We announced those on our social media.
And some of the other online resources that we have include information on budgeting, managing student loans, debt management. This can be found on our Aggie boots aboard financial Wellness page.
Jason Choi
06:24:14 PM
Galilea, there is no penalty for filing your FAFSA late. However, the priority deadline was March 2nd. If you file after this priority deadline, you may not be considered for the maximum amount of grant funding that you are eligible for.
OK, so some takeaways. So if you don't take anything else away from this presentation today, some things that we would like you to remember in your my awards ensure that you've completed all the all of your incomplete requirements. If there's anything pending it can to lay your financial aid from dispersing. So please just make sure that you got in. You reviewed everything. If you have questions, reach out to us. We're here to help.
And your remaining cost equals your total cost of attendance. Monisha contributions minus your total estimated financial aid. If you need additional aid to help cover your.
And balance, please reach out to us and we can see if there's anything else that we can do to help you with those.
Report any outside resources as soon as possible because they will have an effect on your financial aid and so we can let you know what that effect will be when she let us know through your change your name form.
And any other changes that you make on the change in aid for him.
Can change your a package so it's important to just let us know if you're changing from on campus to off campus off campus to on campus.
If you're going from full time to part time, any of those kind of changes, please just reach out to us and we can let you know how that will affect your aid.
Yeah, UC application is also your scholarship application, so keep an eye out to see if you're receiving any scholarships. You're out this summer.
And we're here to help you.
You can reach out to our office during this time through. Contact an expert. You can also reach us by phone were working remotely right now, but we're here to answer any of your questions.
For joining us today, I'm so.
Let's see if there's any questions that we can answer.
Cham Said
06:26:18 PM

Kate Johnson
06:26:37 PM
I'm looking at myAwards, and well this might not be were to ask but is there a way to waive the health insurance cost? I'm still under my parent's insurance :P
So if you're eligible for work studying, you'll see a work study eligibility certificate in your my words, you will print that out annual, take that to the employer so you could be responsible for finding the job on campus.
Uh, we have a website called handshake and through that you can search for jobs.
Once were back on the campus. You can also look for jobs you know around campus, but it would be responsible for finding the job and.
Yanbin Zuo
06:27:03 PM
I have a question about my financial aid. If I don't want to apply for student loan, should I still fill out the Incomplete loan requirements? If I don't complete the loan requirements, does it affect my other financial aid awards?
Thanks so much!
Sandeep Kaur Rai
06:27:06 PM
Hi Kate, you can find SHIP waiver information here: https://shcs.ucdavis.edu/insurance/waiver
Providing that work, city eligibility certificate to the employer so that they know that you're eligible for work study and then the employer would reach out to us.
Jason Choi
06:27:25 PM
Yanbin, you do not have to complete the loan requirements if you are not interested in accepting them.
OK, we get a lot of questions about the blue and gold an if they're eligible. If you're eligible or not for that. So being blown cold eligible means that.
Your annual family income.
Galilea Jauregui
06:27:37 PM
Is there any deadlines for submitting myawards .Because I have not yet submitted the required documents
Is 80,000 or less, and basically if your annual family income is 80,000 or less, you will have your system wider based tuition and fees covered by Gift Aid, and so if you see a cow grand on your a package for 12,000.
This could include your Pell Grant. This concludes your University grant as long as you have.
At least $12,570. And what we would consider free aid or grant aid you qualify under the blue and gold, so it won't specifically say blowing cold, but as long as you have at least that much in free aid, you qualify under the blue and gold plan.
Jason Choi
06:28:21 PM
Galilea, with the exception of loan documents, we recommend that all requirements are completed/submitted by July 15th to ensure that your financial aid will be ready by the Fall Quarter fee deadline (September 15).
Weam Chrabakh
06:28:47 PM
Can you still hold a job on campus even if you don’t qualify for work study?
Your question about would eligibility change if you.
Switch my schedule by that make it so your eligibility you do need to make sure that your sin, but as long as you complete your requirements.
Jason Choi
06:29:16 PM
Weam, yes. There a lot of a lot of employers who do not require Work-Study.
Yanbin Zuo
06:29:17 PM
if we apply for scholarship outside campus, how does affect our financial aid?
The air would be available to you.
Breanne King
06:29:47 PM
Yanbin - It all depends on the amount of the scholarship and your specific aid package. Sometimes it doesnt affect your financial aid at all.
Jill Charles
06:29:48 PM
What is the yearly tuition for UC Davis? I've seen $12,500ish in some places and $14,000+ elsewhere.
OK, see a question about the deadline to accept or reject any loans. So July 15th is typically are document deadline until just make sure that you've accepted any loans that you do plan to take.
As soon as possible and then once you.
Jason Choi
06:30:34 PM
Hi Jill, tuition and fees are subject to change every year. However, for the 2020-2021 Academic Year, the tuition and fees for the year is $14,659.

Kenzo Morabia

Except alone, and you complete the documents requirements for that loan, we will start uploading those into the system come July. So as long as you get a confirmation on your end that says that you completed it once we start uploading those documents into the system, that's when you'll see the requirement change too satisfied.
Jason Choi
06:31:39 PM
Hi Kenzo, whether you are eligible for work-study or not, you can always find a job on or off campus to help pay for your education expenses.

OK, if you have any other questions, please make sure you're putting it in. The chat will be here for a few more minutes.
Besides a Bluebird oppurtunity plan, we also offer the Aggie Grant plan so this would be for family incomes between 80,000 and 120,000. The in parents assets below 200.
1000, excluding the personal residence.
Uhm, so basically what the Aggie Grand Plan students will have up to 30% of their system wider based tuition and fees covered by Gift Aid.
We also offered the middle class scholarship, so this would be for students with family incomes up to 177 thousand and a maximum annual household asset amount of 177 thousand. This would be posted on your account.
