Welcome everybody, we got a nice big global group today.
Thanks you guys. Hung Kong. Very, very good perfect OK.
So, uhm, I know that there's a lot going on in the world.
Um, like I said, I hope you're all safe and healthy. Uhm, if you're like a switch, I think because I'm watching the news. We're all kind of in it together. We're all sort of staying as close to home as possible, social distancing, doing what we can to.
Help keep the world healthy right now. I know it's been a lot. It's been a crazy year. A lot of what's going on is pretty heavy, uhm, but I'm hoping that this webinar today will be a little bit more uplifting. Today is going to be all about you and your future an your goals, and I know that regardless of what we're feeling collectively right now, that your futures are all still going to be really, really bright. I'm confident in that. I feel like the world just kind of.
Planet Earth needed a time out and we all just are given an opportunity to reset and recharge, and hopefully we're all going to come back 1000 times better as humans. So let's just go with it and stay together and stay strong and we're going to make the best of this. Here is how the web and R is going to work today. We've got a lot of information to get through. My plan is to go through the slides with you pretty quickly so that we can save time at the end for your questions.
What I would love is if you could please cooperate with us on this and just save your questions till the end of the presentation, because I have a feeling that a lot of the things that are on your minds for questions may be answered during the presentation. OK, before I go any further I want to introduce my Co pilot for today. My colleague San is also in the room with us. She is in the chat say hi Stan let them see you.
San Lee
01:04:48 AM
Hi! Welcome to the Aggie family!
There she is. San is like my bestie, on our team and I'm so excited that she's helping me. Today she's gonna be helping me with the questions. Uhm. She also works for undergraduate admissions and she's a UC Davis alumna, so she's going to be helping me. She's an expert at all things you see, Davis, this is what we call a moderated chat.
Um and So what that means is that when it's time to ask questions at the end, you're going to type them in and we are going to answer them based on what we feel maybe has the most broad interest. An appeal that we feel everyone needs to know about and still needs to be covered that was not addressed during the presentation. Sometimes you might not see your questions appear in the chat box, and that's OK. It just might mean that it's similar to somebody elses question, so make sure you're paying attention to the questions that.
Other people asked as well because they may help you with your own as well. OK, let's go.
Let's just jump right in.
Alright, Here is an aerial shot of the beautiful University of California Avis UC Davis is among the top five best public universities in the whole United States. You probably already knew that we are a research University, which means that you can have a lot of hands-on opportunities to learn and to grow towards your career. Through this undergraduate research, we have world class world famous programs and things like Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Engineering, Food Science, Biology, Arts, Humanities.
There's gonna keep going. You see Davis is in Northern California, so California again is on the West coast of the United States. That's the best coast of the United States. We are located centrally in the state. It's a really big state and we're close to San Francisco and Silicon Valley in the Pacific Ocean, Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. All of those gorgeous places that are getting so much love everyday on Instagram are in our backyard.
And we're close to two major airport Sacramento International Airport in San Francisco International Airport.
This is Sacramento. Sacramento is the capital of the state of California, and it's also my hometown.
There is a lot that you can do in Sacramento. It is the closest big city to Davis, CA. We're about 15 minutes from Sacramento, and that's where you will find a lot of just what you would find in a big city. It's the, uh, the hub of the legislative system. Our governor works there, so a lot of students who are interested in the political system lobbying law will do internships at the state capital you.
Also find a lot of great shopping restaurants. We have a list concerts that come through and are Golden, one center Maroon 5 Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift. We have our own NBA team. The Sacramento Kings are also there in a brand new stadium.
And Davis is a college town, so I said Sacramento is the closest big city. Davis itself is not what we consider a big city. It's a college town. Davis is the only college town in the entire University of California system, and we think that's kind of awesome. This map kind of shows you the proximity between the campus itself, where all of the lecture halls are and the downtown Davis area. I can walk from the center of campus.
Two downtown Davis were all of our students hang out in roughly about 12 minutes just walking up the location of your school. Wherever you choose to attend. University is really, really important, so we're going to talk a little bit about that in depth because when you sign up to go to University and you're moving so far away from home, it's not just about where you're going to be taking classes. You are essentially shopping for a new home for yourself for the next four years of your life.
So here are some pretty pictures of downtown Davis as a college town. Everything caters to students. The location of the school that you want to attend is going to be important because you're going to want to make sure that you feel welcomed and safe and that it's easy to navigate. So in Davis, there's a lot going on, even though it's a smaller size college town. We have three movie theaters, over 200 shops and restaurants, and one of the best farmers markets in the entire United States.
So how do you get around? There's a lot of ways to get around in Davis, but one thing is true. You will not need a car to go anywhere in Davis CA sometimes are international students. Worry about. OK, I'm traveling far away from my home country. I need transportation. I gotta get a ride. What am I going to do I have to like buy a car or rent a car or rely on Uber or things like that. We don't have to and Davis, so the majority of students in Davis get around on bicycles.
You also probably knew that already. Uh, Davis is the bicycle capital of the United States, so it's our preferred.
What mode of transportation?
But you don't have to ride a bike if you don't want to. You can also use the the bus system that student run. It's included in your fees or you can do what I do and just walk everywhere. Everything is really close together.
So this is something definitely that's on the minds of your families that are sending you so far away from home safety and security is always a concern, but again, the advantage that we have in Davis being a college town is that the entire community is focused on just making a safe place for everyone. We take really good care of each other. Remember this that the bigger the city you choose to live in, the bigger the city in the United States that you're moving too.
The more big city issues that you will have to face, things like traffic and pollution and crime. So because because in Davis were a smaller sized town, we don't deal with all of those big city issues. We're really blessed and lucky to not have to deal with much of those.
Um and our residence halls. If you choose to live in those, those are really safe and secure as well. They all require an ID card for entry. The campus is really well lit even when I'm working sometimes late at night and I have to walk from my office to my car across campus. I never worry about myself getting aware around anywhere. I'm not looking over my shoulders just because I know that Davis is has a reputation for being very, very safe.
OK, so as a large University we have offices on campus, an experts on campus to handle every aspect of your life as a student. Some of them you can see on this map here you're going to find community centers, academic advising centers, tutoring, counseling. I hope that you all.
Caught something called Aggie Experience Live, which just wrapped up this week that that showcased and highlighted some of the community centers that we have on campus.
Um, and if you didn't catch it, I know that they recorded a lot of those sessions so that you can familiar familiarize yourself with those as well.
And we're a very global campus, so I can see by this chat we have a really global group and every single country that's represented in this webinar today by you. The students is also represented at the UC Davis campus in our student community. Every nationality, ethnic group, race, religion is you will find it on our campus. Every language group is represented. That's kind of my favorite thing about Davis', how diverse we are. We are the eighth most ethnically diverse.
University in the United States here is just a small list of the international community student communities that we have on campus. Go ahead and take a look at that. Maybe you can already find one that you identify with, and if not, again, this is just a small snapshot. There is a lot more on our campus than just the handful that are on this slide.
And along with helping you to find your community on campus so that you can feel at home, it's always a priority for us to help you stay healthy and feeling good throughout the four years that you're going to be with us at Davis, because there's going to be a lot of challenges that you will face as you adapt to college life. All students have access to our on campus student Health Center and to counseling services. You will find student peers, an professionals who are just sitting there.
Eager to connect with you and sit down with you one on one to help you sort out anything that you want to talk about. Uhm, so just keep in mind that when you are going from secondary school to University, there's going to be a lot of things that you have to adapt to an. There may be moments where you're not feeling completely yourself or you're feeling homesick, or you just you know, you're confused about something and you just want a person to talk too. So we've got people whose job it is.
To do just that, and we want you to take advantage of them as well.
There's even spots on campus that when we're talking about Wellness that I think is really cool. We have a map of the UC Davis campus that will tell you the best places on campus to take a nap during the day just to kind of refresh and decompress and chill. If you need that, because, again, Wellness is super important to us.
Food is really important. It's my favorite topic. I know Sam likes food too, or both foodies. Each of our three dining complexes on campus have these big open concept food courts. We call them the DC, the dining Commons and students can eat at any one of them. They have different stations with a menu that changes and rotates daily. Everything is prepared from sustainable food sources when you are as important as you see Davis in the world in something like.
Agriculture, you take food very seriously. There is an all you can eat salad bar, pizza, pasta, desserts, home baked cookies and they cater to all different cultural and dietary needs. So whether you're vegan or you're vegetarian or gluten free or halal or kosher, a promise, you will find plenty of food for you. We even have this really cute program in the dining Commons where they let your family members, we they invite you to submit your favorite family recipes.
And then some of those recipes are prepared for you and they need may be added to the menu in the dining Commons. So if there's something that your mom or dad makes for you at home and you just you can't get by the four years of University without having it, you can talk to the chef, give them the recipe and they may prepare it for you. Anne, if it's a hit among all the students in May become like a regular thing. I think that's cool.
OK so um when we talk about food. We should also talk about how we're going to work off the Food and so Davis is a really physically active campus. Just California in general. We we really enjoy moving our bodies and trying to be physically healthy. We enjoy really good weather here. So it it kind of entices us to be outdoors. An be physically active and we also have a Recreation Center. We call it the Ark.
Activities and Recreation Center Ann. It's huge. It's one of the biggest ones of any University in the United States and their expanding it, which is kind of mind blowing to me. There you will find a rock climbing wall. There's an indoor track, basketball, volleyball, racquetball Courts, Badminton, weightlifting, exercise areas and rooms for things like yoga and Moitie. And so there's no excuse not to get your your exercise on campus.
And if that's not enough, we also have a really cute games area where you could go bowling. We have our own bowling alley on campus, you could play billiards, video games, board games, anything again just to activate the other side of your brains and help balance your life outside of outside of class. That's super important. 'cause you're a whole person. You're not just an academic.
And we have a rec pool that was just brand knew, newly renovated. It's gorgeous. So that's a place where you can go swimming. Just splash around or sunbathe, play volleyball, it's beautiful and a lot of our students like to hang out there as well.
Sports is a big deal at Davis. Why? Because we are a Division One school in the United States. They divide college athletics into levels or Divisions. Division One is the best you can be in college sports. So the sports scene Davis is really intense where we are Division One and over 20 sports. But we also have intramural sports and clubs Fort. So even if you're not interested in competing with our.
With our famous Division One teams that get to be on TV, you can still engage in your sport and feel competitive and and connect with other athletes in your sport. At other levels, there's literally every sport that our students practice on campus. You will find one promise.
And then this is the Arboretum. It is just. It's a huge, lush forested area in the middle of the UC Davis canvas. It's my favorite area of campus. Um, there's a Lake in the middle of this forest. We have our own Lake on campus and there you will find a lot of wildlife. We have Ducks. We have turtles. If you're lucky, you might even catch. Are otters swimming in the Lake? And there's a five kilometer loop that goes all the way around the Lake.
Where students like to go walking or running or biking or just exploring and it's just a really peaceful then area where we hang out. Students like the study there or have picnics or just chat with their friends and it's just absolutely my favorite place is super peaceful.
OK, we have over 100 majors at Davis. UM, regardless of what major you are in, it's going to be housed under the umbrella of a college. We have 4 academic colleges, the College of Agriculture, Environmental Science, College of Biological Sciences, letters and science, and the College of Engineering an it doesn't matter what you're majoring in, you will also find an academic advisor to guide you through your field of study and academic supports so that you can be successful in your classes we have.
A tutoring center on campus that will help you with things like writing and science and math and chemistry. An even things like study skills and time management and money management. what I advise students always is that even if you think you're just this most amazing student and you don't need any help at all, be really humble when you get to college because college is going to be different than high school, you're going to be adapting to a completely different way of learning.
And teaching from your instructors and you will need support. So even before you think that you need help in your classes, we think it's a great idea to go into the tutoring centers. Anan, just touch base with a tutor and make sure that you're on track to be as successful as possible in your classes.
So College isn't just about taking classes, it's also about developing your future career. So, um, at Davis we have something called the internship and Career Center. It's one of the biggest in the United States. An it's a place on campus that you absolutely have to become familiar with because we don't want you just to do well in your classes. We want you to start working on your CVS from now so that when you graduate you will have an easy time finding a job and starting your career.
ICC or internship and Career Center offers things like 1 on one advising to help you get ready for the workforce and get ready for things like interviews, an working on your CVS and they have a whole database of jobs that you can you can search to find internships every year. They help students. They facilitate over 10,000 internships every year and they also organize.
Recruitment fairs. So every quarter we have these huge events were over 500 companies will come to campus and talk to our students and then snatch them up for things like interviews and that's why UC Davis students are really lucky and they don't struggle when they graduate. 80% of our students will do will get hired in a job in their field within the first six months of graduating, which I think is a pretty awesome statistic.
Let's go on so, um, the next step for you to learn about UC Davis will be to come to orientation. This is a slide that's talking about AG experience live. I hope some of you saw that. That was a really cool event that we just wrapped up yesterday. It was on Facebook live. There were uhm zoom links that you could have interacted with to see some of the experts that we have on campus just in case you didn't catch it, go back to the to your my admissions. Go back to your.
Emails that invited you to the event because I know that they tried to do a really good job of capturing it for posterity, meaning they recorded everything so that you can go back and see all the features that you might have missed. There was a lot of really important information that we want you to have before you make your big decision. An if you are ready to make your decision to choose you, see Davis. You would do that by going into your my admissions portal, an SIRNS, the Sir.
Stands for statement of intent to register.
We hope that you'll say yes to UC Davis, and we know it's a big decision. But again, if you got into UC Davis, you probably have options in front of you and we don't want you to rush that decision. We want you to feel completely confident in the decision that you make and we will congratulate you regardless of what that ultimate choices.
Students who say yes to UC Davis, usually the very next question on their minds, is where am I going to live? That's usually the next thing that they're concerned about, so your housing application will be available as soon as usr. As soon as you say yes to UC Davis, and that's where you will tell us what your preferences are for your roommates. A lot of students often have questions about how am I going to find a roommate, and you will tell us things like what kind of housing option do you want for yourself? Do you want a single dorm or a double door amora triple door?
Do you want to live in a housing complex that's right in the middle of campus, or do you want a complex that has its own swimming pool or sweet style housing? So all of those things are on the housing application. We always tell first year students that it's a good idea to try to live on campus if possible. We will guarantee your housing on campus for the first 2 years. At Davis it's a great thing because you will have really easy access to things like computer centers and.
On an onsite academic support, sometimes the professors will even come out to the residence halls and teach classes out there, and there's residents whole staff that's available 24/7. If you ever need anything.
The next question after where am I Gonna Live is usually, uh, how am I going to get my classes? So that's where orientation comes in. If you, Sir, you're going to be hearing from our orientation office an learning about something that they are going to offer called Aggie 101 and that is going to be online modules? That's going to give you all the information you're going to need to be able to navigate the college system so you will be a pro at all of these things before you even get to campus.
And through this invitation in Aggie 101 they will also ask you to sign up for one on one advising meetings. It will be obviously remote meetings but the point is you're going to be able to connect with a real live person in an advising meeting before you even come to campus and they will help you register for your classes before the first day of instruction so that when you come to orientation it's just going to be like a huge party where you are meeting other students.
And meeting the the experts on campus and your professors and the people from the different Department. But you're already going to be set up for all of the important things that you'll need.

Here is some important dates to remember we again just wrapped up Aggie experience live please go back and find the recordings for those sessions if you didn't catch them live those are important may one is when you're going to tell us if you want to join you see Davis we would be super excited if that's what you choose and then orientation is planned for September 25 to 29 and then the first day of instruction is usually going to be right after that.
And there's so many ways that we want to connect with you were really doing our best, even though we're all kind of away from each other right now and social distancing. And we can't really travel anywhere. But we've been trying to reach out to you. I hope you've taken advantage of some of the webinars that we've we've been offering. Hope this isn't the only one. Yeah an eye minute and Sands in it an everybody else from the international admissions team is in it and we are excited to connect with you. This is just a super chill place for you to chat with other admitted students. Even if you haven't decided that you see Davis is for you. But it's a place where you can just chat and hang out an exchange. Thoughts and questions.
And if you have questions even after this webinar, we welcome you to continue to ask those in the WhatsApp Group. We will do our best to answer those for you as well, so make sure you slide your phones over this QR code if you haven't already. We want to see you in the WhatsApp Group.
And let me see, that's about it. For the power point, I think I'm going to wrap up.
I know that deciding where to go to school is a big decision. It might be a little bit overwhelming at this point. I hope we're doing a good job getting you the information that you need. Um, if you already know you want to come to to UC Davis, or you've already Sir door. Super stoked about that. If you're still on the fence, that's completely OK. It's a big decision. Take your time, talk to your family members. You have to follow your heart and once you do that, if you decide to come to UC Davis, we are going to be waiting for you here with open arms.
And I can't wait to see you all in the fall.
Alright, I'm gonna toss it to you all. It is your turn to put me on the hot seat.
Ann San San again is going to be helping me. The questions in the chat room and I am going to answer questions myself out loud for you, so let's just get to it.
Here's a question, uh, may I know if there's any delay or admissions gap doing due to the current situation with coronavirus? Yeah, OK, so I was waiting for this question.
Uhm, let me just start by saying that, uh, you see. Davis, like all other universities in the world right now, recognizes that this is a global thing that we're dealing with. It's affecting all of us. So that said, We are trying to be as flexible and as mindful an understanding as possible with regard to what we expect our students to do and deliver an what we are able to do and deliver to you so.
Sanjana Kaushik

I am accepted with my second choice major. How can I get to my first choice major ?
We have been having you know, meetings after meetings to just plan things out for you. the University of California has just issued a statement to talk about how we're being flexible on some of the requirements that we usually expect students to deliver, like documents and transcripts, exam scores, an the like. So we've already been really forgiving about a lot of those with regard to dates.
San Lee
01:32:10 AM
Hi Sanjana, you can plan to change your major after you come in, more info on: https://registrar.ucdavis.edu/records/changes-major-minor

01:32:15 AM
Hi may I know if there is any delay admission/gap year due to the current situation? Thanks.
If there are any changes, students will be notified promptly. So right now we've got orientation set for late September. We hope we will not have to change that, but I promise that if anything shifts in that regard, there will be an email sent out to you from the University. Here's a tip if you ever receive an email from UC Davis, Open it and read it. Because we don't just send emails to fill up your inbox, we send emails to communicate.
Information an oftentimes to give you action items, things that you have to do.
Alright, that was a good question. Let's stay positive. I'm really, really hopeful that this is going to blow over soon. And like I said at the beginning, we will all be better humans because of in an stop taking certain things for granted and just appreciate things a lot more. We're learning a lot about each other, aren't we?
John Mema
01:33:12 AM
what is the title IV?
Um, can you talk about transcripts? and I be deadlines. Uhm, so typically we expect students to deliver transcripts after they finish. They wrap up their school years by July one. We like all the transcripts to come in, but because we know a lot of your schools are closed and you may not have the easiest access to your counselors who usually prepare those transcripts, we are being a lot more patient with that and the UC system has just issued a statement that said we will wait for your transcripts.
San Lee
01:33:35 AM
Hi John, please contact the Financial Aid office regarding to Title IV https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/contact
Up until the first day of instruction, if you're able to get them sooner in, your counselors can send us your transcripts with final grades. Complete transcripts for you now or after you. Sir, that's awesome. We will absolutely receive them and process them, but we're not going to do anything to punish or disadvantages student because of these.
Damn it that world affected by an IB deadlines. I know that your IB exams were canceled and um, the UC system and you see Davis is basically going to be honoring whatever the The Ibio says about your completion of the diploma programs. If you're if you're doing the diploma program and so whenever they are able to generate their scores, their mark sheets, that's when we will receive them.

Hello! I joined the webinar right now. How do I see this webinar from the beginning?
Testing at UC Davis. How exactly does the quarter system differ from the semester system? OK, so um. Most of the UC campuses in our in our system, so we have all of the campuses we kind of look at ourselves as sisters within a system and the majority of us are on the quarter system. 1/4 is shorter than a semester, so typically a quarter lasts about 10 weeks and it means that it goes by really fast.

I take the International Baccalaureate program and results come out on July 6th but the deadline for official transcripts is July 1st. Would it be OK to submit the results on the 6th instead of the 1st?
So my advice to students is just like, remember that when you're going in because on the positive side it goes by so fast that just in case I'm not feeling a class that I'm in and I'm required to take it. It'll be over before you know it. On the negative side, it goes by really fast. So that means that you have to do a really good job paying attention in class and go to every class session that's offered. Because if you miss a class session.
There is going to be a big chunk of information that you could potentially miss, um, but yeah, we are. We are on the quarter system. Frequency of testing is going to be just up to the professor how often they decide to do that. We've got two big exam periods. Midterms in the middle of the quarter and finals at the end. But then interspersed throughout that, professors often like to throw in quizzes and other things that it's up to their discretion.

Do you know anything about financial aid that you can share with us?
Do you know anything about financial aid that you can share with us? Yes, they do. So uhm, this is where I'm going to get really real. An honest with you. the University of California is a public University system that's gets funding from the government. So we just cannot offer the same kind of big scholarship packages that some other private universities in other parts of the country are able to offer students.
Usually what happens is that when you fill out your your application for admission, that same application functions as a scholarship application. You don't even have to tell us. We just kind of assume everybody would love to have some money. So some students, including international students, will receive an award of money along with their admission offer. So you get that email that says congratulations, you're in. And then maybe you might also see an award under a tab.
In your my admissions website called my award that might include an amount of money to help you with your tuition over the four years if you did not see an award with your admission offer, that doesn't mean that there's no other opportunities for you. Uh, it may mean that you could apply for scholarships once you enroll, or you could reach out to the office of financial aid and they are the experts at all things. Financial aid and scholarships, and they can point you in the direction of.
Other scholarships that are available that you could be eligible for an could apply to, and they can tell you about some things like work study, which is a program that we have on campus that can help you do a part time work that would help you with some of your expenses. What happens also is that after May 1, so remember may one is the big day that students have to decide whether or not they're coming to UC Davis. Some students that may be received scholarship awards.
Are not going to come, and then that means there's money leftover, so financial aid sometimes will look at the amount of money that's leftover by these students. That did not decide to come to you. You see, Davis Ann will divide the.
Up into smaller packages, smaller, smaller awards of money and then notify you that Hey, we've got some money for you, um, congratulations. Here's here's an award I'm going to be really, really again. Do not expect that those smaller awards will be huge awards. They're usually up to maybe a few $1000 and they can help you with things like buying a new computer if you need it, or paying for a flight.
Home if you need that. Um, usually those turn up over the summer. 'cause remember what I said? We wait until May 1 and so then after May one over the summer months. That's One Financial aid goes back and does its thing to see if there's any other opportunities.
I know Santa is really busy. There's a lot in the chat I'm watching.
Any other questions about California life in general?
I'm already awake, I'm wide awake now. I don't even need my copy.
If you don't have any questions, I'm going to ask you a question.
Oh, San actually has something. She's rich. She's reminding me of the Super important thanks. And so a lot of students have questions. Once we finish these webinars, they're very specific questions about like. I'm not sure what my grade is going to be in this class, or I have this special circumstance that I'm nervous about. There is a way that you can talk to us through your my admissions website. You're my admissions portal if there's any concerns that you have about any changes in your academic record or just.
Things that you're worried we might not understand or may affect your ability to to enroll um or may be different from the the information that you reported in your original application. You can go to your my admissions page and search for a a tab to report changes or update your academic record, and then you can write to us and an evaluator a real life person will read that an respond to you with some advice.

What are the recommended number of credits to be taken per quarter?
Sanjana Kaushik
01:41:35 AM
what is the typical class size?
Oh, here's another question about typical class size, so that's that's a good question. You see, Davis is a big University. All the uses are, but you see, Davis is the biggest of all the euses for the first year or two. All students will do something called General Education, and that's when we have you take a lot of required classes, but there from different departments, so it's kind of cool because you get to taste or sample classes from a lot.
San Lee
01:41:56 AM
Hi Sohum, you can see the unit caps per quarter on the bottom of this link
San Lee
01:42:07 AM
https://registrar.ucdavis.edu/registration/register/pass-times
Of different subject areas, and that's how people really discover their passions. Sometimes students will enter the University with one major in mind, and then they take a general education class and it will spark their interest in something that they are totally surprised by. An then maybe end up changing their major completely because of it, or adding a second major or a minor because of it. So those beginning level foundation classes in year one or two can tend to be on the big side. They can be.
Over 100 students in a large auditorium. That's OK, um, but because what we do to make sure that students are learning the material properly is that wherever a professor teaches a large lecture hole, there will be a graduate assistant that is partnered with the professor who will then break up the class into smaller groups. Sections anri teach the material to you. Make sure you you know what you're doing. You understand, answer any questions that you have so that you're in good shape to proceed.
The older that you get and the further along in your study that you go say in Year three and four closer to getting your degree, the classes then start to shrink an I know that students have had classes and labs where there's no more than 10 to 20 students in a class.

What if we will not have transcripts due to our schools being closed?
San Lee
01:43:28 AM
Hi Helen,
And there's a lot of ways that you can actually make a big lecture feel smaller. Uhm, so bear with me for a second. I want to just give you a little bit of advice for how to make that a large lecture seen be more intimate for you if you sit in the front of the class, there is nobody in front of you. It just feels like it's You and The Professor. You don't need to worry about the 100 or more people that are behind you, but that's a way that you can make it feel a little bit smaller where you can feel like you're more.
San Lee
01:43:45 AM
You will be able to update that information to us through your MyAdmissions portal
Empowered and comforted to have some interaction with the professor and then our professors are really awesome and their friend Leanne there approachable and they are just sitting in their office during office hours waiting and hoping to engage with students. So there there.
They are very easy to talk to and you should absolutely take advantage of that.
OK, another question. What if we don't have transcripts do to our schools being closed? Yeah, I mentioned this a little bit. We know your schools are closed and we're not going to hold it against you, so here's the good news. We know that coronavirus is not your fault and we're not going to hold you accountable for things that you can't.
Produce because of coronavirus and that goes for your schools in your counselors as well. So as long as you keep in communication with us and you use your my admissions and your update tab to tell us what's going on, we're going to be patient and we're going to work with you.

Is there a possibility to take a gap year?
San Lee
01:44:52 AM
https://www.ucdavis.edu/admissions/undergraduate/apply/deferred-enrollment/
I'm question about is there a possibility to take a gap year? Yeah, so we have a thing called deferred enrollment. You can delaye starting on campus for up to one year. It's between one quarter to maximum one year and you will find the information for how to differ your enrollment again on your my admissions website.
Yeah, and that's that's a good option for some people, uhm?
John Mema
01:45:06 AM
I am a US Citizen but have lived most of my life in Europe with european parents. Do i get considered for US scholarships or for international ones?
The one rule that we have if you choose to defer your enrollment, is that you're not allowed to take classes at any other University because it means we're holding your seat. So you chosen UC Davis, so we're saving everything for you until you can join us.
Yeah, so first the process for different enrollment is you need to Sir by May 1 first.
And then after that you can evaluate your situation and see if you need to delay it a little bit.
Question about ELWR is a prerequisite for all courses at UC Davis. In order to fulfill it.
San Lee
01:46:11 AM
Hi John, you are consider as a non resident and maybe the Federal aid.
Will you you will have to see. You will have to take ELWR fulfilling courses or even language intensive writing courses before that. Will you still be able to graduate in four years? OK, so it's a question about like we have some placement exams that students all have to take, including something called ELWR and we need to make sure all students have strong writing skills before they can proceed with their with their course work. And that's that's something all students have to do.
Jonathan Cohen
01:46:15 AM

will the classes go online for fall quarter if the corona scene does not improve around the globe?
Um question about the fall. Will the classes go online for fall quarter if the Corona scene does not improve around the globe? So, uh, the honest answer is I don't know.
That's sort of the theme that we're all dealing with. The world wide is that we're all just monitoring the situation. We have everything in place for a really awesome start to the year in false, starting with orientation, so we hope nothing messes with that. But again, we're just being very smart and responsible an watching the situation closely. If it looks like it won't be safe to have students on campus in the fall, absolutely, you're going to hear from us, and there will be a Plan B.
Right now we're planning for in person instruction and for people being physically on campus in the fall, not being online or remote.
Um question about Sir. What are the consequences of committing or SI ring late pertaining to housing? OK, so we don't want you to, Sir, late we that's why we're trying to do a really good job making sure everybody knows that the deadline to Sir is May 1 May 1 so. Make sure you submit your Sir, then you're on this web and are with me. There's really no excuse to Sir late you should have everything that you need to be able to make a decision by May 1 if anything.

Hi San, can work-study give me in-state tuition since Im a US citizen?
Busy happens and the campus says that, OK, we're going to give you a little bit more time. We will tell you that and you again check your emails from us all the time about that. Once you submit your essay are like I mentioned in the presentation, you're going to get access to the housing application. That's where you tell us all of your housing preferences. We don't want you to procrastinate on that. Send that in as soon as possible, because even though the housing office is really awesome at trying to accommodate everybody's preferences.
San Lee
01:49:18 AM
Hi John, in state tuition depends on your family situation, if your parents are never California residents, it will be hard for you to establish residency and in state tuition
The sooner you get it in, the more likely it will be for you to get what you want. So my advice is don't delay on that, but they will. They will do their best. We know we have enough room for all of the students that we've admitted an we want to guarantee your spot there, but I can't promise that it will be. It will look exactly like what you're you are dreaming of, which is why I'm saying get your housing application in as soon as possible.

Um, another question about differing enrollment. Instead of taking a gap year if the pandemic crisis is not over in 2020, keep your fingers crossed. I hope it will be. Can I enroll in next semester? Fall 2021. Yes, so deferred enrollment is up to a full year.

Hi! Can international students participate in paid off-campus internships?
A question about internships on campus jobs. Can international students participate in paid off campus internships? So I believe the answer is no to that one. Not because we don't want you too. We wouldn't, not because we wouldn't love for you to do that. It's just that those are things that are tide to your visa restrictions. So if you go to the website for the services for international students and scholars, I don't know if Santa already shared that one, but that's that's a good one too.

Be familiar with ASISS is located in our International Center on campus and they are the people who issue. You're I 20s an help you prepare for your visa appointments and interviews and they have the best, most accurate, most recent information for what's allowed as an international student.
That is not going to disrupt your visa status an what's not allowed. From what I understand that anything that's on campus is open for you. You can certainly do off-campus internships that are not paid, but in terms of paid jobs, those have to be restricted to the UC Davis campus. But there's a ton of on campus jobs that pay good money. You could even come work for us in admissions. That would be awesome.
Thanks San San just posted the link for SI SS. I really think if you have not visited that website you need to because they have very different information. Then you will find on the admission site.
