So we'll get started. Around 503 will give folks some time to come in. I think we have about 20 or so people RSVP for today. So either if we hit 20 or 503 comes up first. We'll just go from there, but otherwise, thank you so much for coming in. Get situated, get comfortable, maybe have some water.
We'll get started shortly.

Hi Alli, thanks for coming. Yeah, if in the meantime if everyone wants to share their name, well, I mean your name shows up, but maybe what Community College are coming from? And also what major you're interested in studying that would be great and that way we can kind of see, kind of like who's in the group today, so feel free to drop that in the questions section.

Hi Xiao!
Alicia sexy anthro awesome. So let's to start things off with some logistics on the top right hand side. There is closed captioning, so if you choose to have some closed captioning, that's definitely an option for you. Just know that it is automated, so there might be some issues in terms of how what they put based on how clear I write. So I mean, not right. How clear I talked, so hopefully there's not going to be too many issues. But first of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Ella Lamb. I am.
A UC Davis undergraduate admissions.
Academic or no admissions advisor and analyst. I'm also the UC top diplomat for Folsom Lake College. I don't know if there's any Folsom Lake College people in here, but today's presentation is going from 5:00 to 6:00 o'clock, so the presentation itself will be about 2030 minutes and then after that will be a lot of time for questions since we are getting pretty close to you know the application being able to be submitted by November.

Hi I'm from American River Community College applying for Biological Science
And then helping me and joining me today are my coworkers. We have candy. We have Pam, Jackie and Liliana and they will be on the chat. And so if you have questions, feel free to drop them at any point in time during the presentation. Drop them into the questions section and then they will answer it.
Throughout the presentation. OK, so with that, let's go ahead and get started for talking about the UC application and Pike use awesome. I love that our chat is already so active. It's so much fun. OK, so presentation overview. So these are the some of the things that we're going to go over today. So first of all, the application timeline so important dates and deadlines that are coming up before you begin on the application, how the applications are then reviewed.
How to complete the application and important parts to lookout for and then Lastly the personal insight questions, which is always something that we get lots of questions about. So first for the application timeline. So the application is already open at this point it's been open since August and then the tag deadline has also passed us now. So September 1st of the 30th. This year we did have an extension until October 15th and that was on the account of the wildfires.
So that was something that we had this year.
Andrianna P.
05:06:04 PM
Hi! I'm from the college of San Mateo and am an Economics and business major
Jackie Nguyen
05:06:15 PM
Welcome!! :D
October 1st through March 2nd is when we would encourage students to submit their FASA and their dream or their DREAM Act application and then November 1st through the 30th which is coming up. I mean what is it in couple days I can't let me see. Yeah so in a couple of days the UC application will be open and then you can go ahead and submit your application. January 31st is when you would create a my admissions account and submit a transfer academic update which will talk about.
Later on in the presentation mid to late April is when we notify our students of our admission decisions. June 1st is the Sir deadline, so letting us know if you intend to come to Davis or any other UC and then after June 1st is the wait list. Admission notification.
OK, so before you begin your application, here are some things to be mindful of as you are starting on the application. OK, so first of all you want to be sure that you are using the same email as your UC tap and the reason why we ask for you to do this is so that all of your information, first of all is going to the same email address. So any questions at UC Davis or any UC's have it will go to the set email address. You don't have to be searching around to see which email that did you sign up for.
Tanya M.
05:07:27 PM
hello!
Jackie Nguyen
05:07:33 PM
Hi Tanya!
This one and for your UC, top for tag, etc right? Also, if you use your you see email as your UC tap then that way you can roll over what was on your UC tap onto your application. So that saves you a lot of time so that you know that whatever you put on your UC tap it will be rolled over to your application. You don't have to do all the classes again 1 by 1 on your application. Research what majors you're interested in as well as campus options. Each of the campuses we do obviously have similar majors.
By they might be under different names, so just be sure that you're signing up for the right major. Get unofficial an official copies of your transcripts so the unofficial transcripts will be good as you're filling out your application. If you do have to input all your information again, then it would be good to have your unofficial transcripts right next to you so you know exactly what grades you got. How many units that class was that kind of thing? And then for the official copies, just set them aside somewhere safe. Maybe you attended a college like a long time ago, like maybe a four year college or somewhere out of state.
Or something like that. Or the college has now closed. Just keep those official copies of your transcripts somewhere safe, because once you're admitted into Davis, we will ask for those transcripts. OK, so make sure not to open any official copies. Just keep Em sealed an yeah, just don't touch him until until transcripts are due.
Gather your parents info if that's relevant so their jobs, their income, their tax form, 'cause there are some sections in the application that will ask for income, and those are for purposes of like fee waivers and things like that. Create a document outlining your activities, awards and work. Slash, volunteer experience. And so this is just going to be helpful in the sense that you don't have to be sitting there on the application and thinking like oh, what did you know? What are all the things that I've done this way when you have all that prep work ready then you can kind of breeze through the application. It's not going to take as much time.
To fill out the application fully.
And then for your peak use, make sure to start. You can start brainstorming them. We have some helpful guides for students on how to write a successful PQ 'cause I know it can be pretty overwhelming in trying to think of good responses to those. So we do have some helpful guides that will talk about later on.
So how are applications reviewed by us?
So here are some important things. So there is a statement of application integrity and what that is is. Basically there's a part in the application where we ask you to verify that everything that you've submitted to us is accurate. We do want to make sure that when our students are filling out the application that they're honest and that everything is accurate based on the best of their knowledge. Because if there are instances where applications are possibly falsified, or you know there's really important information that you leave out, there are cases where.
Applications have been marked for falsification and students are not admitted that way, so it is really important that you are honest as you're filling out the application and so this does include that you must put all your enrollment so any college that you've ever attended, including international colleges slash universities, all UC transferable and non transferable courses. So even if like on assist it doesn't show up or the application doesn't pop up that classroom you.
Submit it in. We need to see that your academic history is exactly as it would be on your official transcript. Once we receive it, OK.
Your we would like to also have you report your AP slash IB examination scores because even if you think like Oh well, this isn't relevant to my major. That's still college credit and that goes back into the statement of Application Integrity as well for any activities outside of school then this is. These are also areas where you know we would like you to be honest. You should not exaggerate or fabricate any awards or activities that you did not get. There are times when some of the information that you submit.
Is subject to verification, so sometimes on random that you see we will ask for our students to verify the information that they report on their application. So those are just some things to be aware of. Any mistakes that you do.
It cost you your admission, so it's really important that you just are honest and that you have all the appropriate documents so that you aren't just like reciting everything from your brain right? Sometimes our memory can fail us.
OK, so now when it comes to requirements versus selection, when the campuses are looking at the applications, these are some of the things that we are looking at. OK so the the for all the UC's we're all looking for the GPA, junior level standing and junior level standing means you're at 60 semester UC transferable units and then also the seven course pattern which is 2 English courses, one math course and then also for other courses in other areas. Right every UC campus receives the same application so again.
One application to all nine UC campuses.

05:12:37 PM
I went to Davis Senior High School- I did not enter high school information for 9th grade because freshman year was part of middle school. Is this going to be an issue?
And then we will review it for minimum eligibility and that minimum eligibility is that little triangle right there? The GPA, junior level Standing 7 course pattern and then and then we will. But then each of the campuses do review them differently. OK, so not all the campuses follow this same admission guidelines, so that's something to be aware of. So for example, the minimum you see why GPA is a 2.4 for our domestic students. But for example for Davis.
Candy Giambruno
05:13:29 PM
@Jason, when filling out your UC application we do want to know what and how you did in the 9th grade. So before submitting your application make sure that you add the 9th grade. Thanks, great question
We look for students at a 2.8 minimum or a 3.1 mil minimum for students in College of Engineering. So those are just some things to be mindful of and this is usually information you can find on the each of the UC's website and then we also may utilize peak use differently based on campus selection guidelines. So another example of this is I would say that for Davis we don't put as much emphasis on the Pike's, were more concerned about students, their academic history, so what's your GPA? Are you meeting major prep?
Requirements 7 course pattern etc. Whereas I would say maybe you sees like Berkeley or UCLA, they place more. They do place value on those peak use.
For our comprehensive review. So these are some of the things that we might also consider differently based on which campus. So it's going to be major preparation. Your GE slash your breath requirement so I get see for any of those of you guys who are doing I get see your strong GPA, special talents and or achievements and student context. And again all the uses will utilize each of these things in a different way.

05:14:18 PM
Hello All. Don't forget to ask any questions you may have on the chat. We are here to help!
Jason P.
05:14:39 PM
One of my friend did the same thing and he received an email to update the information. Once I also get the email and enter the information for 9th grade, is it going to be ok?
So now when it comes to completing the admissions application, hopefully most of you have gone in already to kind of see what the application is all about. To familiarize yourself because it is a pretty lengthy application, right? So it is a good good idea to go in there and just kind of click around, see what it's all like and just see what information you might have to gather early on so that you can kind of smooth sailing as you are completing the application.
So getting started, you will be asked to creating an account if you don't have one already. So new user knew users must enter a unique email address and password again, use the same email address that you use on your UC tap. If you have already applied in the past before, then go ahead and you can use the same account and just apply for a new term. OK Anne, make sure to use a strong password. Must have at least 8 characters, combination of uppercase and lowercase.
Candy Giambruno
05:15:16 PM
Jason, since you haven't yet applied you should be able to update your application prior to submission.
Candy Giambruno
05:15:33 PM
But yes, if you do get the email to update your application please do so.
Numbers and or symbols you know ya ya all that all that stuff in terms of how to have a secure password 'cause you don't want anyone else going into your application in applying for you right? So I'm not going to go into into that since I think most of us have created an email account at one point or another, but just be sure you know the main thing would just be using the same email address as you see tab.
So starting the application so when you are starting the application, if you're coming in as a transfer student, which most of you guys are, if not all of you is that you're going to be selecting that transfer button right there. So you've graduated from high school, you've attended a regular session at a college or University, so regular session is going to be a fall, winter or spring semester or quarter. Make sure to also check for that fall quarter.
Jason P.
05:16:12 PM
Thank you. I did not add the information in the TAG application but I will add it in the UC application.
Semester 2021 unless you are planning to attend to a planning to attend another campus that does have winter or spring available for Davis, we only have fall admissions. OK, and then this is a section. I do get a lot of questions about is do I apply as a junior, a sophomore or senior? So most of our students are going to be junior level transfers. If all of your units are from a Community College and you have, you will have at least 60 semester units, OK?
Candy Giambruno
05:16:48 PM
Jason, that is perfect....just make sure that your UC application is accurate and with all information we have just discussed. Thanks!
Even if you go over that like, let's say you have 100 semester units from a Community College, that since there still lower division when you come into UC Davis, you're going to be capped at 70 semester units to stay at junior level standing, but you still get subject credit for those classes that you took. OK, so hopefully that makes sense. If not, then just go ahead and leave a question and one of us can go ahead and answer that for you. For a sophomore level level transfers, you know that's going to be if you have less.
Fewer than 60 semester units and then senior level transfers will only really be for students who have like let's say they've gone to a UC before or they've gone to another four year college and have a lot of upper division units. OK, so if you're not sure, feel free to email one of us and then we can definitely help you out to see where you're at.
Alaa S.
05:17:41 PM
I did my high school in a different country outside of the USA. Do I have to enter the information of 9th grade?
Alright, so navigating the application on your right hand side of the application is going to be divided by sections, so make sure save every section before moving on to the next. Although I do think it does autosave, but I'm one of those people where I click the save button like five times before I move on so it wouldn't be a bad idea. I would say just like manually save after each one if you so choose complete information based on documents in front of you. Again, if you have like your parents information or your own like income information.
Unofficial transcripts, high school transcripts, anything like that, so avoid guessing the answers and ensure that all the sections are complete and accurate. And once you've completed it, you will see that there's going to be that little check Mark on the right hand side.
So merging information from the UC tap when you use your when you go into the academic history, there's going to be a section that asks you like, oh, if you have a UC tap, please feel free to log in here and then we can pull off your information from your UC tap onto your application, so that saves you so much time, then it then what happens is that your UC tap will then merge in with your UC application and so again saves you a lot of time. However, the main thing to be aware of.
Is is to still check the merged information for accuracy? You know it's like we can't completely rely on computers to be completely foolproof, so you'll just want to just go through and just make sure that all the classes look correctly. Maybe if there were any non transferable classes left out then just to add them in that kind of thing, OK?
Alright, so for the activities and awards, these are the different categories, so there's going to be a section for activities and awards and you can put however many you would you like based on what kind it was. So we see that there was maybe if you got an award or an honor, any educational programs, extracurricular extracurricular activity, volunteer slash, community service or work experience, and then you can also, if it was an educational preparation program.
Liliana Mendoza
05:19:48 PM
@Alaa, you do need to add your high school even if it was outside of the U.S. You do not need to add your high school coursework but you do have to add the school and years attended.
You can also choose one of the ones that are already auto populated because we are well aware of the different types of educational programs that are available all right.
Now for scholarships. This is a section for you to go ahead and apply for different scholarships based on whatever is relevant for you. And so like the application says, a scholarship is free money, so why not right? And so the scholarships listed below that are ongoing that are going to be on that section are for students from specific backgrounds, academic interests or career objectives, and so there are going to be a number of them, so I would just say you know, click through. See which ones are relevant for you.
Candy Giambruno
05:20:26 PM
@Alaa, here is the UC site that will help you navigate the UC Application and help you to know how to enter your high school info. https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/how-to-apply/applying-as-a-transfer/filling-out-the-application.html
And just go from there, even if you're not too sure there's going to be more information for you to read about them. And then again, if yeah, if you're just like, really, not sure it's not going to be a bad thing to just maybe select it and then go from there. 'cause if you don't qualify then you don't qualify, right?
Luke W.
05:20:48 PM
Earlier I saw that the deadline for updating TAP was October 1, and I did not know this until after the date. Am I screwed?
Alright, so now let's move into the Iqs the personal insight questions, so each of the questions that are available on the UC application aligns to one or more of the nine comprehensive review factors that the campuses consider in their admissions decision. So we did talk about the comprehensive review factors a little bit earlier on in this slide, and so transfer students must answer one required question and then select three others from a pool of seven.
And then we'll go over what those ones are. A maximum of 350 words for each response. So not a lot of space at all, so that would be maybe like I would say, like a paragraph or two, and then all questions have equal value so we don't value one question over the other, so you don't need to worry about that in terms of saying Lego, I think they might want this instead, what is what we would be looking for is actually for you to pick the question that you think you have the most information for that resonates with you the most.
Candy Giambruno
05:21:45 PM
@Luke, do you mean your UC TAG? As you only use your TAP until you either fill out a TAG or actual UC application.
So why the PQ's are important is I would. Basically I always tell my students like it's pretty much your interview with us, right? We don't do any face to face interviews or anything like that. So the peak use is really a space for us to understand who you are beyond just like grades and academics and all that stuff, right? So we use the peak use to understand our students in the context of which they aware they're coming from their background. Maybe any important things.
That the student finds is relevant to them, personal challenges that give us context, that kind of thing, right? So these are the P Hughes are an opportunity for our students to share about life experiences, interests, ambitions, inspirations, that kind of thing. So gives us a, gives us an idea of who's the person behind this application.
Candy Giambruno
05:22:56 PM
If you have already submitted your TAG you will be able to update us in January. You will receive an email from UCOP asking for an app update. We are looking to hear what grades you received Fall 2020 and any course changes to your Spring 2021 schedule.
So some writing tips I'm not going to read all of these out by some of the mean ones that I do want to point out is to first of all be specific in your responses. So who, what, when, where, how? Right from a first person perspective? I mean my, you know the PQ is a space for you to talk about yourself, not talking about anyone else, so you know we don't need to know about your your moms, aunts, brothers, dogs, blah blah, right? We want to hear about you.
Basically, we know that there are important people in your life, so it's not to say that you can't talk about them in your peak use. But always remember to bring the focus back to you and how you've grown in this case, that kind of thing, right?
Kinjal T.
05:23:40 PM
I have a quick question about the TAG application for UC Davis. Is it true that once you put a class in your TAG application and then drop the class, your TAG application would invalidate?
You choosing a quality over quantity of examples. So there is a difference from saying that I've volunteered at the food bank at the children's store drive. I've done an art walk, blah blah blah, and listing all of it versus maybe focusing on specific examples that you think have had strong relevance in your life and things that you've accomplished during these during these events. So like, let's say you know I, I didn't.
Art walk and I was able to raise $25,000 to donate to families in need or something like that, right? That gives us more context. Instead of just writing listing them all down. And also another thing is is to not, you know, use bullet points or anything like that, like actually write it like a paragraph.
Uh, do not overuse humor. You know it's not Comedy Central, so we don't need too many jokes. We don't need you to use quotes or song lyrics or anything like that. We want to hear your own voice.
And select questions that apply to you share information that sets you apart and then don't repeat information already shared. So let's say in the application there is a extra curricular activity that you already talked about early on in the application you gave a very lengthy detail as to what that is, so we don't need you to write that again in the PQ and just kind of use the same information that you just did. If you do choose to expand on that particular.
Extracurricular activity. Then we ask that you provide like new and compelling information beyond what was already listed previously in the application OK.
So for the peak, use that PQ worksheet is what we do. Encourage our students to go ahead and use and hopefully someone can. Maybe one of my coworkers can paste that. If not, then I can go ahead and paste that near the end, but it is very useful for students to use. But the required question that all transfer students are going to have to answer is please describe how you have prepared for your intended major, including your readiness to succeed in your upper division courses. Once you enroll at the University. So I would say.
Candy Giambruno
05:25:46 PM
@Kinjai the answer is yes and no. Depends on the situation. We do make the TAG decision based on the info you give us. If it is a selective major and it is a required course for your major, that could be a problem. If it is a random course and you drop a course and don't need the units that isn't such a big deal. Again, you would update us in January and give us an explanation as to why the change. So, in long answer, we evaluate each communication and make a decision
Liliana Mendoza
05:26:10 PM
Here is that worksheet for the PIQs: https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/_assets/files/how-to-apply/uc-personal-questions-guide-transfer.pdf
Some advice in terms of answering this question is to not list out all the classes that you've taken in your major. You know we can look at your transcript when it comes to that, but is to really talk about. Maybe things like what are some educational opportunities you've taken advantage of to succeed in your classes at Community College? You know, have you gone to tutoring? Have you worked with Professor or have there been any internships or jobs that you've done that are relevant to your major? How are you going to navigate the space in terms of going from a Community College to a four year?
University that kind of thing. Oh, Liliana, went ahead and pasted it. Thank you so much and then so those are some examples on how to answer that question that that worksheet is going to be super helpful for our students who are maybe like it is 'cause it can be pretty difficult, right? Especially writing about yourself, I know that I struggle with that a lot, so that worksheet is going to be a really great way just to have you brainstorm and kind of reflect on your own personal experiences and go from there.
And then after you've answered that required question or you can skip around up to you. We don't mind then answer any of the other three questions based on this pool of seven. So again, choose the ones that you think you have the most information for or that resonate with you the most. They are all equal.
Liliana Mendoza
05:27:30 PM
Here is the general UC application page for transfer students. It has useful videos and other resources: https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/how-to-apply/applying-as-a-transfer/personal-insight-questions.html
Now for the additional comments, this is the additional comments in after your PIQ section. So if there's anything you want us to know beyond what was already shared in your application, then go ahead and share that so this is not a space for you to do another PIQ or an extension of a PQ or anything like that. It's really a space for you to help us understand. Maybe if you know there was like a big gap in your educational educational experience.
Or if there was maybe a time where you had to like, do you had a lot of WS in your in your schedule or something like that? So just anything that you might want to share that would help us understand. Maybe some anomalies in your application.
Now for the billing summary and the fee waivers. So for every campus that you apply to, it's going to be $70.00. But if you have a fee waiver then you qualify to apply up to four campuses for free in.
So that's why it's important for students if you so choose to submit your income information on the application. 'cause then we do calculate or the application calculates it to see if you qualify for that fee waiver. So any other campus that you apply to beyond that, those four free colleges will be $70.00 OK?
Now, once you've submitted your application, you get this very nice yellow and white check Mark. It says good job. 'cause yeah, you did it. That's really good that you completed this really long application. So some important things to review is going to be your application ID, the date submitted and then also the payment method. So if you paid already then you'll see that on there I would say maybe take a screenshot or print this out just in case. Maybe if there's any tech issues and you have to contact you, see application, then you can always refer to your application ID so that.
We can go ahead and find your application a little bit easier.
And now this is that statement of integrity that we talked about on the right hand side. So it's basically just saying that you you acknowledge that everything that you've put onto this application is true, nothing is falsified, and so that you are the sole person who's responsible for how accurate everything is on your application.
And then the release authorization, which is on the left hand side. This is talking about. If you authorize us to release your information to account to a counselor or to your parents OK, and so you could choose to opt out of this. And if you do like let's say for example of accounts are ever called or a parent ever called to ask about information and we see that you have not checked off that release authorization, then we cannot legally say that we cannot legally acknowledge that your student there to protect your confidentiality and privacy.
OK, so that's something up to you.

Is there anyone I can discuss this issue with at Davis for some more information?
For the application status, you can see when the application was sent over to the campuses that you have applied to and then that Tia you that we did talk about with.
Candy Giambruno
05:30:35 PM
Sure, you can always call the admission office @ 530-752-2971. M-F 10-2p
Yeah, we did talk about on the dates and deadlines that is going to be something that will be required for all student. All transfer students in January because we will like you to provide your fall grades and then also solidify your spring schedule because at the time that you submit your application, obviously you're in the middle of full quarter or fall semester and then your spring is still planned at that point in time.
So for the UC application center, if you have any issues with the application itself, any tech issues you can feel free to contact the application helpdesk, so feel free to take a picture right now so that you can see the helpdesk hours. Or you can also call the UC Application Center as well, so leave this for a couple seconds.
If you want to take a picture or screenshot or anything like that.

Kinjai...this is a good slide for you to note
Hongliang C.
05:31:29 PM
I mentioned in TAG that I have gone to a university in another country but due to the expiration of the vise, I had to drop out of that university. Now UCD asked me about the unofficial transcript, but that was 8 years ago and I have no access to get the transcript. But my GPA is 4 now in my community college. Is it a big problem?
And then Lastly, just going back to that transfer application deadline timeline because we really want we want to like ingrain this into your head. OK, that the the next thing that's coming up is going to be about UC application being due by November 30th. So I would say submitted a couple days before I would submit it a couple of days before the 30th because without a doubt we always have students submitting. Like on November 30th at like 11 PM 11:59 PM.
And so you know the system crashes or your Wi-Fi goes out. Or you know, just something happens beyond your control, and so you know it's just really important to maybe just get all your stuff completed a couple days before so that you don't run that risk, and then you don't have to call is crying the next dancing leg. Oh my God, I missed the application. What do I do? So submitted a couple days before OK?
Candy Giambruno
05:32:04 PM
@Hongliang, I think your best bet would be to respond back to the email you received and explain the situation.
Annabella J.
05:32:30 PM
If one of my PIQs is about a personal experience that led to self-growth, will I need to tie it back to my academics and how it helped make me become a better student?
Alright, so thank you all so much. I think our chat has been blowing up with questions, so that's awesome. But Lastly, here are just some of our social media handles if you want to follow us and see what's going on with Davis. Any dates and deadlines that we always remind students of and then also our website fortheucdavis.edu/top if you go to one of our schools where you have a top adviser or you can even email some of our student outreach ambassadors as well. If you have questions about specific majors from a student.
Yeah alright, so we have about. Let's see we have about. Yeah we have a good amount of time left for questions.
Candy Giambruno
05:33:03 PM
@Annabella; no you really don't need to....we have your academics in other sections of the application
If you feel that all of your questions have been answered in our presentation just now, then feel free to log off Ann. Thank you so much for coming so that you can enjoy the rest of your day. But otherwise, if you do still have questions, I will be around. I can answer some questions live based on Candy and Liliana. Whatever they think might be a good question to answer out loud for the group.
But yeah, otherwise feel free to enjoy the rest of your day or leave more questions if you have them.
OK so alright I do see some questions. I'm assuming that these are ones that.
Have left for me to maybe answer.
Hongliang C.
05:33:51 PM
Yes, I did. And I am trying my best to get that transcript, is there any contact info to discuss this?
Out loud, so nashib we have one where it says when we submit the application, will it be automatically considered for scholarships or is there a separate process to apply for more scholarships? So like we were talking about before that there are going to be scholarships on the UC application, but you will have to click through them and see which ones actually applied to you and then if there are any other scholarships that you might be interested in that are either offered through that, you see the use of your choice or outside scholarships. Those are ones that you either have to go to the financial in scholarships website.
Or and also look through like online portals for outside scholarships, OK?
Candy Giambruno
05:34:27 PM
Hongliang, a UC Davis evaluator is the one that sent you the email. So if you already emailed them back please just wait for their response. Thanks much
Alright, I green when writing for the required prompt, I came up with four examples that I'd like to include, but I feel like there's not enough room for me to explain each one thoroughly. How many examples would be a good amount, so that's a great question, Irene. So I would say when it comes to answering the PQ, yeah for examples it is going to be pretty hard to have a sufficient amount of space to explain each thoroughly, so I would say that maybe if there's a common theme.
In all four examples and that might be a way to include all four. Or you could go based off of the ones that like maybe 2 that you think were the most relevant that you have the most information for, and maybe use the two other examples in another question. So those are some ways to kind of space it out.
So you can talk about each one and give it enough space to explain.
OK, so in Abella if one of my Pike uses about a personal experience that lead to self growth, will I need to tie it back to my academics and how it helped me make how it helps me.
Nashib D.
05:35:33 PM
When we submit the application, then it will be automatically considered for scholarships right? Or is there any other separate process to apply for more scholarships? Thank you!
How it helped make me become a better student. Wow, I cannot read today but yeah, so it depends on the question. Most of the time when it comes to answering the peak use, I believe that the questions do typically ask you know, how did you grow from this and that is really the one of the big things that we do look for when you're answering. Peak use is how. How did you grow from this? What have you learned from this experience, right? So it's yeah, it's always a good idea to.
Relay it back to you, whether it's how it improves you as a student, or maybe how has it improved you personally, which then has led you into your academic success, that kind of thing. So it does depend on the question.
OK Kenzle you did ask for us to go back to the contact information slide. I'm not sure it was at the UC application or was it this one?
Candy Giambruno
05:36:32 PM
Nashib, yes the UC application is also your scholarship application. So it will be looked at for both admission and scholarships
Use the application. There you go alright, so let's see what does subject credit mean. So Luke, not your credit basically means when we were talking about.
Andrianna P.
05:36:59 PM
I am answering the creative side PIQ question- what in particular should I focus on? How this hobby or interest makes me unique?
As capping students at 70 semester units like, let's say that you've taken, let's use that example again right where you have 100 semester units coming into Davis, we cap you at 70 semester units so that you're at junior level standing. However, those classes like that 30, those 30 units that you're not getting credit for, quote unquote, or you're not getting the unit units for you still get subject credit. So basically, means like, let's say that.
Candy Giambruno
05:37:20 PM
@Adrianna; yes you have it exactly right!
You get you took calculus one Community College, but you're not getting the units for it, but you get you get the credit that you did take that class so that you can move on to calculus two once you are at UC Davis.
Probably that makes sense.
I think that was all the questions that were left.
Hongliang C.
05:37:44 PM
Thank you so much. How long you think that I would wait?
Application timeline OK, not a problem. There you go.
Candy Giambruno
05:38:08 PM
Hongliang, we work on those daily so it should be within a few days
Kinjal T.
05:38:54 PM
If you submit a TAG application to Davis, when do we hear back from them?
OK kenzle, if you submitted A tag application to Davis, when do we hear back from them? So if you submitted it by September 30th then you're going to hear back from us by November 15th. If you submitted it after September 30th up until October 15th again that extension we had this year because of the wildfires. Then you will know by November 30th.
Kinjal T.
05:39:37 PM
Thank you!!
In Hong Leong, I know that candy is helping you with that, but some additional information that we have for you when it comes to any international transcripts or coursework is to yes, like Candy said, definitely respond to the email and let us know what the situation is, especially when it's been, you know, it's been a University that you attended in the past. Another thing is to also.
If you are unable to get transcripts from your University like either, it's been too long or anything like that. Sometimes what we do ask for students to do if they end up being admitted is to go ahead and submit an official letter from the University stating that this student was a student here, but we don't have their transcripts or anything like that, so those are just some things that we sometimes do ask our students, but your best thing to do right now, like Candy says, is just to respond to that email and then you will be. We will follow up with the additional steps.
Afterwards, once we've received your response.

I'm transferring from a community college and I have a leadership experience for question 1 on the PIQs, but it was in my junior year in high school. Would it look too old of an experience or not as valid considering it was from high school?
OK Alicia, so I'm transferring from a Community College and I have a leadership experience for question one on the Pike use. But it was in my junior year of high school. Would it look too old of an experience or not as valid?
As valid, considering it was from high school so.
I would say when it comes to using high school experience as a Community College student, especially since it's been, you know, it's been awhile ago. We typically recommend students to use more recent information, so this might be something that you could include in that question. One, however, I'm not sure if it would be the most beneficial to use that as your main focus for that. For that for that particular question.
So hopefully if you have anything that might be more relevant, like more recent, that would probably be better.
Or maybe pick another question that where you have more more recent information 'cause we do look for maybe things like in the Community College setting or maybe like in your work or anything like that.
Alicia O.
05:42:42 PM
That helps, thank you so much!
Candy Giambruno
05:44:09 PM
Anymore questions out there...if not we will wish you all a good rest of your night
So while we wait for some more questions, I thought I would go ahead and pull up that the worksheet on how to get started on on the PIQ's. I can share my screen.
Oh gosh, let me see if I can figure this out.
I'll just say share entire screen.
Wow, alright, whoops, that is not what I wanted. I'm so sorry. OK, so hopefully everyone can see that. OK Oh my gosh, Oh my God, I'm one of those I'm one of the professors that I used to have where they didn't know how to use technology. So can everyone see that OK?
Hopefully yes. Alright, so this is the personal Insight Question worksheet that we recommend our students to use, and so I expand this. Then you can take a look and see how it is designed. So basically it's going to have some information about what the peaks are, why they're important, blah blah, and then some of the basics. The logistics OK, and so these are basically prompts to help you get started and to start thinking about.
What this question means to you? So for example, that one question that all students have to answer please describe how you have prepared for you intended major, including your readiness to succeed in your upper division courses. Once you enroll. And so here are some questions to get you started, so any classroom experiences that have been important to you? Anything outside of the classroom, so are you in your major because of culture, community, family? You know, sometimes we, for example like I'll just use myself as an example. Like, you know I had.
A really like not great school counselor in high school and I was like Oh my gosh like.
Now I want to go into counseling because I want to help students about. They're not in the same situation that I was, and so you know that may be something that I would write about in my personal insight question. That kind of thing. So these are good questions to just start you to start you off on how to brainstorm, to think about to some. Do some self reflection.
And then for the additional questions they're going to ask you for the any of the other questions depending on which one you picked. You know how would you define a leader? Do you exemplify these words that you say that you think of when you think of the word leader? That kind of thing, right? So it's a really good way just to help you get started. I know sometimes when you're just staring at your Word document and you're like I don't even know where to get started. This worksheets are really great way for you to understand or just to kind of get some creative juices flowing. OK, so this is a really useful.
A resource for our students to start writing their PIQ's
Uh, sorry, let me figure this out.
So about 13 minutes left, we still have about 6 folks in the room, so if yeah anymore questions, feel free to drop 'em in.
We will be here until six so.

Is there gonna be other workshops in spring for creating MyAdmissions account and other steps of the transferring process?
Allie is there going to be other workshops in spring for creating my admissions account or other steps of the transferring process. So yes, we typically do have workshops in the spring as well. Of course, it will depend on kovit if it's going to be online. Most likely it's going to be online. But yeah, there are going to be workshops in helping our students with the next steps of their applications, so just be on the lookout for any of those through our website or through.
Sometimes I think we do send them through the email through email through the email through email as well.
Ali D.
05:51:07 PM
Perfect! thanks!
Alright, looks like we have about. We have two folks left so Ali or Jason. Any questions?
