Alright, so it looks like we still have people logging in, but while we're waiting for everyone to join us, can you use the chat and let me know if you can hear me, OK?
OK, awesome so it looks like.
People can hear me, which is great. I'm just going to give us maybe like 10 more seconds to see if anyone else is going to join before we get started.
It's nice to see you all here.
OK, cool, so I'm going to go ahead and get started. The first thing that I want to say is hi, my name is Alex. I'm an advisor here at UC Davis and I work in undergraduate admissions just a little bit of housekeeping before we get started. If you need it, we do have a closed captioning option for you. It's going to be that little icon that has CC on it in the top right of the screen. If you click that.

Hello!
Other than that, what I really wanted to say is congratulations to all of you. It's a really big accomplishment to be able to go through the college application process and start to get all of those wonderful acceptance letters, and so really great job. It was a very competitive year for us here at UC Davis, and so if you were admitted, we are so proud to have you here and hopefully in this presentation I can answer your questions, get you really excited about the process and show you a little bit more about campus that you might not already know.
Um, so we're going to go ahead and jump in. I'm going to talk for maybe like 15 to 20 minutes, and then I'll open up for questions and answers after that. If you have any questions, go ahead and save them until the end and then will try and get through all of those as best we can.
Pranav Chennareddy
05:02:51 PM
How many people applied this year?
So jumping right in you guys all applied to UC Davis, so I assume that you know we are top ranked in like AG and environmental Sciences and that were a third greenest University. But what I really wanted to share with you is something that I kind of get a little excited for students with. We have a lot of really hands-on experiences for students to participate in on the top right photo, you're going to see a photo of a student learning how to drive a tractor. We actually offer a tractor driving class.
Sarah Fales
05:03:16 PM
Hello! I am an admissions advisor and can help answer questions
And that's that's usually a really popular class on our campus. It's usually got about 50 students to wait to get into the wait list for that class. We also have really cool classes on if you want to become a venture. So learn how to make wine or beer. Those are programs that we offer. Our facilities are, again, Super Green, so if you are learning to make wine or beer, you're learning in some of the greenest facilities in the world.
If you're looking for more hands-on experiences in different fields, we are also the only you see with an equestrian center on campus, and so part of that means you can. If you have a horse, you can bring your horse and boredom on campus. Or if you're looking to take writing lessons, you can definitely take riding lessons for fun. Or if you're an animal science student and you really want to get some hands-on animal science experience, you could apply for an internship at the horse barn, an you would stay in the horse barn.
Learn about Horse Husbandry in horse breeding and so that's a really cool thing that you might get to participate in.
Sarah Fales
05:04:34 PM
UC Davis recieved just under 77,000 freshman applications this year
For any bio majors that I have in the audience today, we also have a cool hands on experience. It's a student run health clinic program and so our students will go out into the community and really work with live patients to make sure that they're understanding their medical needs and getting their vaccinations. Those types of things, and all of these classes. All of these experiences are really taught by world class faculty, so that bottom photo that I have on the right is actually one of our aerospace and engineering faculty.
His name is Steve Robinson an. He is a former NASA astronaut is actually been to space four times. So if you are taking any aerospace engineering classes then you might end up in his class and so she's not the only famous faculty we have. But we do have a lot of experts that have really worked in the fields that you're interested in studying in that are going to be teaching you that are doing research so you can partner with them on research. So I would really encourage you to kind of take a look around and.
Utilize the resources that are available at our campus if you decide to come the last fun fact that I kind of wanted to tell you about is that center photo that we have on the screen, so that's a photo of our Aggie Pack and it's actually the largest student spirit organization in the United States, so all of our students have free access to sporting events. You can be a part of the Aggie Pack and maybe get free swag. Have a lot of fun, show some school spirit so it's a really unique experience and I highly encourage you to check it out.
If you come to our campus.

Adoniyas Addis
05:06:03 PM
can we change our major to mechanical engineering after enrolling
But where are we located? So again, I'm assuming that you apply to our campus. You kind of know where we're located, but what you might not know is what the weather is like. So we're in Northern California school were located maybe like 20 minutes away from Sacramento, about an hour and a half away from San Francisco. Are climate tends to be pretty warm in the summer. The winters aren't too cold. We don't really get snow, but you do get a little bit of rain. A little bit of wind, maybe some fog.
So pretty nice most of the year because we're located in Northern California. You really have the opportunity to go wherever you want to go. So if you want to get to Lake Tahoe, that's about a 2 hour drive. the Bay Area is pretty close. We have a shuttle that goes from UC Davis to UC Berkeley. I believe it goes twice a day and it's not super expensive. So if you wanted to spend the weekend in the Bay, that's totally an option for you. Yosemite is also really close as our great mountains for skiing and snowboarding, if that's something that you're into as well.
Sarah Fales

The Statement of Legal Residence form is due May 1st. Its an online form and you can access it via your myadmissions portal!
And then I would describe our campus as more of a college town. So when you look at the city of Davis, you're going to see that the whole downtown area really sits right next to the campus. And so all of the restaurants and shops and kind of the way the downtown area is set up is really meant to support students, and so you can bike. You can walk if you're into sitting at a coffee shop for hours. It's totally OK because.
That's what students do, and so in the downtown area, we have things like coffee shops. Does anyone like Boba?
See if you use your chat.

No Bova fans in the audience. That's OK. I love boba. So if it's your first time coming to campus, I would definitely encourage you to try it out, especially in the summer when it's pretty hot. OK, there my Boba people, so there are tons of boba shops and as a staff member I enjoy just walking off campus to find that Boba shop, but you can find your favourites. You can try different ones out, tons of restaurants to movie theaters. So really, just a lot of great things for you to do. There's also really cool farmers market that happens on Wednesday nights.

Do students from UC Davis undergrad get priority for internships and even admission into UC Davis medical school?
Sasha Afroz
05:08:21 PM
What opportunities are there for medical internships, physician shadowing, and research? How easy is it to get in contact with people and get those opportunities?
And that's a really cool hang out. You'll see a photo that bottom left photo is a photo of the Central Park area during a farmers market time so you can see it's pretty active. And that's where a lot of our students spend. Their time is in that downtown area in terms of navigating, navigating on and off campus.
Most of our students since their living on campus, get around by bike or bar bar unitrans bus system. Either option is great, depending on what your preference is. The Unitrans bus system is actually entirely student run, so most of our students will get jobs with Unitrans and learn how to drive the bus is it's our highest paying student job and what I think is really cool is that we have a double Decker bus that we flew in from the UK. So if you're interested in learning how to drive that, that's definitely something you can.
Sarah Fales
05:09:09 PM
We admit around 39% of freshman students
And then I mentioned earlier we are a huge kind of biking community, so a lot of our students do have bikes. On average. I would say we have about 20,000 bikes on campus everyday. If you don't have a bike, there is a bike barn on campus for you to purchase a bike, borrow bike or you can use the bike sharing apps to rent a bike and get around campus for the day.

And then if you want um housing is another big topic, you should probably consider as you're looking at campuses that you might want to choose to go to in the fall, and so for us what we have on campus as we have residence halls for our freshmen to live in. We do guarantee your housing for two years and then the residence halls. There's three of them, so they are just arrow. They're segundo, and they're quarto there really great places for students to.
Not only me to roommate, that's probably going to be a really good friend for you, but you also have access to computer labs academic advising's. There are resident Hall Advisors that are available 24/7.
And you have access to dining Commons.
The application for housing. If you're interested in living on campus is going to be available after you submit your statement of intent to register. So that's just something to kind of. Keep the lookout on, and I believe housing is working on getting some interactive photos or or tours available for you, so I would check their website For more information within the coming weeks.

Hi Sasha - We do not give preferential treatment for UC Davis to the UC Davis medical school. We accept all people however many students who attend UC Davis are very prepared for med school and have access to med school advising
Meline Norquist
05:10:59 PM
What is the layout like for freshman housing? Is it all doubles?
And and food. So coming to campus that you're going to be away from home. So thinking about what it is that you're going to eat is that was important for me when I was thinking about colleges when living in the residence halls, you will have access to our dining comments. That photo on the right is a photo of one of our dining Commons. There usually open floor plans you can go and grab your food and they stay open. They really cater to a student schedule, so we understand that you are in classes.
Early and late, so they do stay open to accommodate that. They often times do really fun activities, so they might have like a themed food night. Um, I think they've done like a Harry Potter themed food night, which is kind of cool if you're not feeling the dining Commons for a day. We also have off-campus options. You can either visit the food trucks we have a lot of food trucks on campus daily, or you can go off campus into that downtown Davis area to really explore and check that out.
And then we do recognize that.

Do you have a meal plan?
At school, you probably want a little break from studying, and so our campus has a lot to offer in terms of recreational activities. We have an activities and Recreation Center which offers a fitness equipment and exercise classes for you to participate in. We have a brand new renovated recreation pool. You can see a nice photo of it there on the screen. We also have a really cool game center and so if you're interested in bowling or pool or video games, that's definitely accessible to you on campus.
Sarah Fales

with this pandemic going around, how will our cost of attendance be affected? is the confirmation deadline still May 1st?
Anju Mallur
05:12:40 PM
Is it possible to get an internship freshman year as a biomedical engineering major?
We are the only you see with the bowling alley, which I think is kind of cool and it's a really good rate for students. So if you're looking for something fun to do, you can definitely part participate in that. Apart from those kinds of facilities, we also have a lot of students that are finding things to do and keeping pretty busy in terms of like Greek life. So if you want to join a fraternity or sorority, you can definitely do that. We also have over 800 different clubs and student organizations. If there is not a club that you're looking for, it's definitely possible for you to start one.
You just need to find two friends and then you can totally do that.
Sarah Fales
05:13:18 PM
The deadline to register is still May 1st. You should follow the guidelines in your myadmissions portal.
We also have a lot of students that participate in like the internship and Career Center, but they also take advantage of things like our community centers. So if a student is looking to participate in the Community Center, they can very easily find it on campus. Go visit the center. There is usually academic advising, personal advising, a lot of social events that happen within our community centers we have. As you can see, a wide range of centers from like an LG BT QA center to a woman's Resource Center to a Native American center.
We have a conic center, an undocumented student center, so really a lot of different centers available for students, and I think what is kind of cool as you can find study space in their. Oftentimes they might have like a microwave or refrigerator for you, so if you want to store your lunch in there in between classes, that might be a possibility. But you can also like reserve meeting space, so if you have a club and you want to have a meeting, a lot of these centers will have a meeting space or quiet space for you to be able to utilize.

What is the process for changing majors in a different department than you were accepted for?
That kind of brings us to our next consideration. So when you are thinking about college, we've kind of talked about some of the fun stuff a little bit about housing. But you also want to think about health and safety. And so when you're looking at location, I would say UC Davis is a pretty safe community were also thinking about that too. And So what we've done is we have a student health and Wellness Center where you can go for any kind of health related questions you might have. Whether it is physical or emotional, you want to talk to a counselor.
Um, we also have a basic need center in our Memorial Union, so if you are looking to get free food, we have a pantry where students can get food. If you're looking to talk to a counselor, we also have counselors available for you to talk to their, so we're really trying to make sure students have what they need in terms of staying physically and mentally happy and healthy, and then the other cool thing that I think we have is a safe ride service. So if a student is coming home late at night from a class and they feel a little unsafe, they can call the safe ride service and they will take you to your car.
Or to your dorm, no questions asked, so that's another nice kind of feature to think about.
Sarah Fales
05:15:21 PM
Anju - Yes, you can get an internship your first year. We have a internship and career center and you can also partner directly with your professors
I know kind of flying through all of this information, but I want to make sure that we have enough time at the end to answer your questions. So with That being said, we've kind of talked a lot about the fun stuff. The unique stuff that you might not know about UC Davis. I would say the environment and the students tend to be a lot like really friendly and a little unique and we're totally OK with being that space. But one of the main things that you want to think about when you think about.
UC Davis is probably academics, right? So do we have a program that you're interested in? Are you going to be able to get the experiences that you need so that you can be prepared to work once you graduate from our school?

We have a student farm that a lot of our students are working on. Animal science major falls within.
Sarah Fales
05:17:05 PM
Vincent - Some general classes can be large with over 100 students but major specific classes are much smaller, especially upper division

The next college I wanted to share a fact on is our biological science is what I think is really cool about them is that they recognize that student a lot of our students are preparing for that health field. And So what they've done is they have a whole Biological Sciences advising center so you can talk to advisors and make sure you're on track. But they also have a health professions advising Center, so if you know that you want to go into health related field, whether it is that Medison or General Medison.
Or psychology, whatever it is, you can definitely work with them to make sure you're on track and that you were taking the right classes. Getting the right experiences so that you can apply into those programs at once you graduate.
Sarah Fales
05:17:59 PM
It is very easy to double major at UC Davis. You can work with your adviors to create a graduation plan
And then let's see next college we're going to jump into his College of letters and science. I would say our College of letters and science is our most diverse college. You have majors in there that range from cinnamon digital media to things like economics. You have a lot of the linguistics majors in there and the cultural studies majors this college because they have so many different majors, really encourages students to be.
You can study a lot of different things in. It's OK, so if you want to do a double major or minor within any of our colleges, actually, that's definitely OK, but I definitely see that overlap happening a lot. And letters in science, so it's totally easy for you to participate in that program within letters in science. And then we have really cool facilities for students that are in some of those performing arts to showcase their work. So we have like an end and Pfizer Concert Hall where a lot of our students will do senior recitals. We also have the Mondavi Center.
Sarah Fales
05:18:58 PM
For students interested in learning about SLR, you can get more information here: https://registrar.ucdavis.edu/tuition/residence/processes/slr-basics?Form=SLR#en
And then we have different galleries for students to display their art, which I think is also pretty cool.
And then the last college that I have is our College of Engineering College. Women Engineering is pretty diverse. There are eight different departments within that major. what I think is pretty cool is that they have the number one percentage of female faculty in the US teaching, so they're really great for women in stem. They're also real.
Big on entrepreneurship and supporting students that kind of want to run with business programs and so they partner with the students. Started center on campus and they have an engineering student design center as well to help students that kind of want to start their own business and develop their own projects in that way.

05:20:10 PM
Is double majoring between different colleges possible?
Um, so those are kind of some cool fun facts about each major and that kind of demonstrates a little bit of the hands-on learning that we were talking about. We also have some great resource research centers that are available off campus, so we do have a Bodega Bay Marine Laboratory where students can go do research there. If you're interested in political science, you can always study at the state capital or in Washington DC. We have a coffee lab, so if you're interested in learning about the science of making a perfect cup of coffee.
Alexandra Zazueta
05:20:12 PM
Is there any way we can change the major we have been accepted into?
You can definitely do that as well as like all of the agricultural stuff we've kind of already mentioned in the animal stuff, and then we have our own Med school as well. So if you're interested in going that way and kind of getting hands-on experience, that could definitely be an opportunity for you.
So the main point of all of this is to say that there is something for everyone at UC Davis, and I think it's really about kind of figuring out what it is you're interested in and using that network that you're going to develop as a student here to get those experiences and to get into those classes that you're really hoping for.
So that brings us to important dates to remember decisions were released in March, so you found out that you got into UC Davis and now you have some time to do some research to join webinars like this to talk to other students, hopefully and figure out if you want to come to UC Davis. If you do, the next step is to submit your statement of intent to register by May 1st and that happens on your my admissions portal.
After that, the deadline to apply for housing will be on May 6th and then will ask you to send your official transcripts and your official AP or IB scores or any exam scores that you need to send us. Those dates are available on your my admissions portal, so if you forget them you can totaly find them super easy.
The other thing that we have is we have a WhatsApp group, so if you wanted to join the WhatsApp Group. I'm the advisor. We have a couple of Advisors on the chat to answer your questions. But it's also a really great way for you to talk to other students. So to join the group. You need to download WhatsApp 1st and then you can scan the QR code or you can use the link.
To join the group and we really want you to kind of talk to each other, get to know where everyone is coming from. What majors are studying an maybe share? Why you're considering UC Davis?
After you after you kind of take a look at the group, you can also join our Aggie experience. This event is going to happen in early April, so maybe within the next couple weeks or so.
Sarah Fales

05:24:03 PM
how can we access our required documents before we submit SIR
Vincent Gordin
05:24:04 PM
how do you apply for work study jobs?
So it looks like there was a question about the airport, so the nearest airport is going to be a 15 to 20 minute drive. It's not too far away if you take like a lift or an Uber. I think there is a bus that goes that way that you could take, but we don't have a shuttle to the airport.

05:24:57 PM
Sasha - we do give credit for AP. Depending on the test and your score, you can get credit for a course or elective credit. https://www.ucdavis.edu/sites/default/files/upload/files/2018-tag-ap-chart.pdf
It looks like the next question is how can we access are required documents before we Sir so I don't think you have access to required documents 'cause that checklist only gets made after you say yes to UC Davis. But if you wanted to start working on getting them, usually we're going to ask you to submit official high school transcripts were going to ask for official AP or IB or toefl scores, so those are all things that you could start working on getting together so that they are ready to go once you decide if your SI ring or not.

Can you do work study fall quarter as an incoming freshman? And is it ideal?
Jordan Lee
05:25:17 PM
When can we start registering for classes? Is it possible to sign up for a class that aren't included in your major requirements?
Emily Houser
05:25:18 PM
When do we register for classes?
I'm so the next question we have is how do you apply for work study jobs? So work study is usually a program that's offered through. I believe you have to qualify for it with half, so you'll need to submit your FAFSA or your DREAM Act application and then I believe work study jobs are available through the financial aid office so you can check with them. Or you could check with the internship and Career Center to see if you can do that.
Raul Verdin-Godinez
05:25:32 PM
My SIR says, "Due to your application fee waiver status, your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) fee is deferred. Click the button below to proceed with your SIR." What does this mean?
Dalia Guerrero
05:25:34 PM
After accepting the SIR is there a way to do online classes instead of living on campus?
Alright, next question that we have is can you do work study fall quarter as an incoming freshman and is it ideal and so?
In terms of work study, like I said, I don't have all of the details. I think when you apply for financial aid and you receive your financial aid package, which is hopefully within the next week or so, then you should have information about whether or not you can start with work study. I would definitely reach out to financial aid and check with them.
Sarah Fales
05:26:14 PM
You will register for your classes during your Orientation process. You will work with an advisor to choose your courses.
Most of our students do however, work part time jobs while there on campus. I know it's an adjustment as you come from high school into college and then you start on the quarter system, which is usually a little bit faster. So I would encourage you to maybe kind of feel it out. Your first term, figure out what's a good routine for you. How do I manage my time? do I know where my study resources are and then kind of start looking into those work opportunities?

How can we set up a virtual meeting with a Financial Aid Advisor?
Vincent Gordin
05:26:48 PM
What do dorms look like under typical conditions?
Alexandra Zazueta
05:26:49 PM
Is it possible to change into a different major from one of the other three colleges?
Brittany Tyson
05:26:53 PM
I am a pre-vet student majoring in animal science, hands on experience is very important to me. Many of the colleges I have visited with/researched offer very little hands on experience specifically for freshman. How many hands on opportunities will be available for freshman students?
Eyal Wrobel
05:26:56 PM
I am not eligible for FAFSA since I am not a US citizen. Can we apply for scholarships?
So I hope that helps. Um, the next question we have is when can we start registering for classes? Is it possible to sign up for a class that isn't included in our major requirements? So signing up for classes will happen after you complete orientation? This is going to happen a few weeks right before school starts, so orientation has recently moved into an online format and so you're going to have to go through that process of doing orientation. And then I think you come to campus for like a week.
Rachel Yei
05:27:01 PM
Do you suggest bringing a car or is their enough transportation on campus to get around?
Of on campus kind of events. And then during that week, that would be when you pick your classes. So that's kind of cool.
Uh, move. These questions are coming fast.
So someone asked after accepting the essay, or is there a way to do online classes instead of living on campus? Most of our classes are offered on campus and we expect our students to be full time. So if the students needing to defer or not come to cloud campus and they should reach out to our admissions office by using that, ask an advisor question that's on the screen or on that website on the screen.
And then the next question is, can we set up a virtual meeting with the financial aid advisor? And so for that I would reach out to financial aid. I know that everyone with all the kovid stuff that's going around were also kind of adjusting and trying to figure out how we can best support you as students. So some of our department's are set up to start taking virtual appointments to take phone appointments. I'm not sure what financial aid is set up for you, but if you check their website.
Sarah Fales
05:28:18 PM
You can check out the residence halls here: https://housing.ucdavis.edu/residence-halls/
Or give them a call. They should have their voicemail setup to let you know a little bit more about what their next steps are.
And the next question I'm seeing is, what do dorms look like under typical conditions? So most of our students that are living in dorms you're in a double or triple room. They come with most of the furniture that you need, so I believe there's a bed. There's a desk, there's a lamp. There are shared areas as well where you can find like a couch and there's a small kitchen area where you can cook if you need too. I believe in the dorms you are also allowed to bring in your own mini fridge.
And microwave, so that's kind of how a typical dorm looks.
Sarah Fales
05:29:08 PM
Rachel - Freshman do not bring cars to school. We have great free transportation on campus with our bus system. Most students have bikes on campus
Yasmine Valjalo
05:29:16 PM
What scholarships does UC Davis offer for incomming undergraduates? to help with tuition
Uhm, you can. I guess the other question. We get a lot is about roommates in the dorms. So if you know ahead of time that there's a roommate you would like to have in your dorm, you can submit that on your housing application. If not, and you're worried about finding a roommate, there is a roommate Finder service that comes with our housing. You can definitely access that. There's like a survey. It kind of reminds me of like a.
Rachel Yei
05:29:21 PM
How do you gain residency so that I can qualify for in state tuition?
On line dating like who are you? What do you like type thing and so you can definitely get partnered up with a roommate that meets criteria that you're looking for.
Next question is, is it possible to change into a different major from one of the other three colleges, so changing majors is one of those things where it's not always guaranteed and it really depends on what major we're changing out of and what major we'd like to go into. So the best way for you to figure out if that's a possibility is going to be to talk to your major adviser to learn about what the requirements are for the major that you're hoping to change into, and then to work with both advisors to see if you can meet those requirements in order to transfer.
Sarah Fales
05:30:24 PM
To see about residency requirements, you can contact the Residence Deputy directly. residencedeputy@ucdavis.edu
Uh, some majors are definitely harder to get into than others, so if you're thinking about Engineering, Biological Sciences, computer science, psychology, those are, you might have a little more trouble doing. It's not impossible, but you would need to talk to an advisor first.
Oh OK next question, uhm?
So someone's asking about hands-on experience is available for freshman students. So as a student, I always kind of felt that the experiences you get are basically what you go out and look for. I haven't run into any opportunities that are limited to level like whether you're a freshman or sophomore or junior or a senior. I know that we always encourage students to do undergraduate research, and so we have an undergraduate Research Center on campus. and I believe that you can start that.
Whenever you enter UC Davis and so whether it's research or trying to find an opportunity, I think you just have to be a little proactive.
But I don't think that we have any limits on freshman being able to participate in those types of experiences.
Sarah Fales
05:31:19 PM
Check our financial aid information online to see what scholarships are available: https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/wellness/outreach/decision
So hopefully that helps. Let's see next question we have is about scholarships. So students that are hoping to apply for scholarships. The UC application was your scholarship application.
Jordan Lee
05:31:31 PM
What kind of help/services do the pre-health advisers offer?
Harsheen Lamba
05:31:49 PM
Is it easy to get housing on campus after the first two years?
If you didn't qualify for those scholarships, then I would encourage you to visit our scholarships website. I know that they have a database of external scholarships with different criteria in different applications that you may qualify for, and so I would encourage you to check that out and do your applications. Obviously, the more scholarships you apply for, the better chance you have of receiving some kind of scholarship money, so I would kind of read through those and see if you can have any look.
Up next question is about bringing cars to campus, so most of our students live on campus and everything is going to be within a 3.5 mile walking biking distance for you. So most of our students don't bring cars to campus if you're living in our residence halls, alot of those residence halls will restrict parking passes, so you won't have access to a parking pass because you're on campus, so most of our students don't bring their cars, they use the bikes or the public transportation system.
Sarah Fales
05:32:42 PM
We have the best department for pre-health advising. https://hpa.ucdavis.edu/
Adoniyas Addis
05:32:57 PM
When is the SLR deadline?
OK, and so the next question I have is, is it easy to get to housing to get housing after the first two years on campus? So I know that we guarantee the first two years and we're actually building a ton of new housing. That's going to be coming online within the next couple of years, so we meet that may be extended. It may not, but I think what most of our students typically do is that they make really good friends and then they get an apartment off campus and so you're able to move in with a roommate that you really enjoy.
And you're still close enough to campus that you might be able to walk there or take the bus, but it usually is a little more convenient to kind of after those first 2 years. Get your own place and then commute to campus that way.
Sarah Fales
05:33:24 PM
The SLR deadline in May 1st. You can find all deadlines one your myadmissions once you SIR

What resident hall is best for an engineering major, like location-wise?
I think it looks like we're wrapping up on our questions. I hope I answered most of them.
Yasmine Valjalo
05:33:37 PM
Can you please elaborate on getting into required classes- is there a waitlist? Is there an Honors Program?
If I missed anything, go ahead and put it in.

05:33:44 PM
when is that "dating" questionnaire available for roommate search?
Raul Verdin-Godinez
05:33:53 PM

How does financial aid disbursement work? If we get more financial aid than we need for tuition and fees, what happens to that extra money?
Sakura Garcia
05:34:06 PM
How does financial aid disbursement work? If we get more financial aid than we need, what happens to that extra money?
Sasha Afroz
05:34:10 PM
Are we allowed to bring a car on campus after freshmen year?
OK, so the next question that I had pop up was a resident Hall is best for engineering majors location wise. So I would say instead of a residence Hall I would apply to live in one of the live learn communities that we have. There is one for engineering students so if you were looking to be in a place with students that are in similar majors, advisors who are really familiar with the classes you need to take, then I would think that's the best way to do that and I'm not sure which Hall that live. Learn community.
Is in but it should be pretty close to most of the areas on campus? Where you need to be we also have a ton of other live learn communities available for students. Some of them are major specific but some of them are culture specific as well. I think they're really great opportunities for you to make friends and to feel supported and have additional resources that you might not have if you were just in the dorms kind of.
Next question was about getting into required classes. Is there a wait list? Is there an honors program? So we definitely have an honors program. If you were admitted to the Honors Program, it would have come with your admissions letter from campus. You would have gotten a special notice about it if you're trying to get into classes. Usually we have larger classes available for students that are like the general education type classes. There can be a wait list.
But as you get into your more major specific classes, a class size can kind of drop to a 20 to one ratio.
As far as like in talking to students, I haven't really heard about students not being able to get into the class they need within one or two quarters, so most of our students are able to continue on track and meet their graduation goals.
Sarah Fales
05:35:38 PM
Once you SIR, you will be able to apply for housing and fill out your questionnaire for roommate preferences
Next question is when is the dating questionnaire available for the roommate search? So I believe that's part of your housing application, so I would check with our housing Department and see when that's going to be available. It's obviously going to be available before that May 6 deadline, and so I would just kind of keep track with that and see what they say.
Sarah Fales
05:36:00 PM
The housing application is available 72 hours after your SIR
Sorry, just reading through the questions really quick.
So I would say an I don't want to give you wrong information because I don't work in financial aid. So in the next question was about financial aid disbursement. So I would encourage you if you have any kind of financial aid questions. I know that we're doing a financial aid workshop, so if you use that link that you received a signed up for this workshop, you can definitely jump in there and see when that financial aid workshop will be.
Sarah Fales
05:36:36 PM
https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/
And you can sign up for that and there should be a financial aid staff member who can help you out with that question that you have about disbursement.
Yasmine Valjalo
05:36:49 PM
Can you re-apply to the honors program after Freshman year?
Alexandra Zazueta
05:36:52 PM
Are first-year students required to live on campus? or is it optional?
All right and then another car question, so depending on where you're living, if you're still living in a residence Hall, you probably will not be able to bring your car on campus.
Brittany Tyson
05:36:55 PM
What do statistics look like for transfer students? Is it easier to get in as a freshman or transfer?
Vincent Gordin
05:37:03 PM
what resident halls are best for biochem and molecular cell majors, and what is biology department rated for davis?
If you've moved into an apartment, if you're living off campus, then that's more of a possibility for you, but you will have to pay for parking permit.
Uh, it looks like we had another question about the honors program, so if students are interested in the Honors Program, there is an application process that you can apply for it after freshman year it should be on their website and you can definitely contact them to see more details about how that works.
Anju Mallur
05:37:42 PM
When will we be notified if we got a university-wide merit scholarship?
Dalia Guerrero
05:37:50 PM
What are a few scholarships that are not required to have FAFSA, especially to those who have a high efc
The next question is our first year students required to live on campus so we don't require you to live on campus, but we really recommend it. It's kind of a unique experience. Being able to walk everywhere that you need. Grocery stores are walking distance for you and just being able to live with other students that are at college for the first time, so we highly encourage it and we make sure really, that everything that you need is there, but it's not required.
Liam Mitchell
05:38:09 PM
Which office would I reach for changing tuition costs? I have Contingent Residency Classification but it doesn't say so on MyAwards.
And then next question is about transfer students. There are some transfer options available for students. The requirements are different, and so if you're looking at transfer admissions, all of that information is going to be available on our website. It's a different process, it's I think, a little more black and white. You can read which classes you need to take, and so it's in that way it's a little more straightforward in the freshman admissions process.
Let's see next question is about Biochem Emil Occular and cellular biology. Uhm, I'm not sure which resident Hall is the best for that either. Sorry, but I would definitely you can for all of these departments you can definitely contact them and usually a lot of students are working in the Department, so you might be able to get them on the phone an ask them. You know what their experiences like where which residence Hall. Maybe they stayed in. I believe that biology also has a live learn community that you can apply into, so I would.
Google UC Davis live, learn communities and then search through those and see if there's one that kind of meets that criteria for biology majors and then kind of it should say which residents Hall that falls into.
Sarah Fales
05:39:23 PM
Yes, you can apply to the honors program after freshman year. https://honors.ucdavis.edu/
Uhm, and then it looks like we had another question about scholarships, so I believe that financial aid and scholarships should be finishing up their packaging for students within the next few weeks. If you haven't received your financial aid or scholarship package, they should be notifying you, hopefully within the next couple weeks. If you're not seeing it, then I would give them a call for sure and just check on the status of that and they should be able to help you out.
So a few scholarships that are not required to have FAFSA, especially to those who have.
I'm assuming high GPA, so for students that are interested in scholarships, I would definitely check out our scholarships website. Like I said, there's a whole.
Big database of scholarships that are available based on merit or other criteria that aren't linked to your fasa. It's a separate application process and so you would really need to go through and make sure that you meet the criteria and submit the application during the timeline in order to qualify for those.
And then it looks like that kind of it for questions. Anything else guys?
Sarah Fales
05:40:33 PM
Freshman are not required to live on campus but most choose to due to the proximity to resources on campus.
So I think we went through a ton of information. I'm going to put.
Sarah Fales
05:41:10 PM
Transfer student admit rate is 56%
This slide back up on the screen and hang around for a few more minutes to answer any last minute questions, but hopefully this was helpful. Hopefully you kind of have a better idea of who we are and what we have to offer and I would encourage you. Again. Check out those other websites that are earned. Those other webinars that are coming up. They definitely have a lot of really good information, especially if you have like those financial aid or housing questions and then check out that Aggie experience day that we're going to have.
