He is an admissions director here at UC Davis too, so I'm going to be talking to you, but we're both going to be on line answering questions. I did go ahead and I went on line an I looked at some of you who had submitted some questions and I saw some good questions. I'm going to make sure to address.

Hi Victoria. It's good to see that you are able to join this webinar.
All of those today, such as financial aid. What are fall semester is looking like? Also, there's some good questions about what the cultures like at UC Davis and then also a good question about how to get connected with internship. So I'm going to answer all of that for you today plus a lot more an as I'm presenting. If I cover topic and you have more questions, just go ahead and submit a question in the chat box and then either I'll cover it in the presentation.
Victoria Pereyra
06:01:54 PM
Thank you!
Or tie will help out and he will answer in the chat box. The presentation itself is going to be about maybe 2030 minutes and then I'm going to leave a significant amount of time at the end that you can ask us whatever questions you like. I'll also give you some really good links that you can find to get in touch with us later on after the presentation so that you can continue to ask those questions and if any of you are shy and don't want to send your questions on line, I encourage you to do so because other people probably have the same questions as you.
But I am more than happy to answer on the side uhm after the presentations over so first of all I just wanted to say congratulations to the class of 2024 uhm very proud of you as you know you see Davis is a procedures college admission is not easy so you've already done all of the hard work and you got admitted so you should feel very proud about yourself some of you I know on that have registered had said yes and some weren't sure yet so.
Hopefully during this time you can ask any questions that you have. I'm sure you're trying to find your best college fit, so hopefully I'll be able to answer those questions that you can determine if UC Davis is going to be the best fit for you.
As far as the majors at your admitted to, we have four different colleges that you belong to, so you're either admitted to the College of engineering, the College of Agriculture. Environmental Science is the College of Biological Sciences or the College of letters and science. So you see, Davis is a very large campus and we encompass over 100 different majors in these four different colleges. So just a few facts that we have our engineering Department that your smallest Department and it has about 12 undergrad majors. But it is one of our.
Most competitive just because our programs tend to be well received, the really excellent. We have amazing faculty in our in our engineering programs. We are also rated one of the top ranked programs for women and engineering or faculty. We have the highest percentage of female faculty in that field.
Or in that Department I should say, and then the College of Agriculture Environmental Sciences. And we have a lot of we have a lot of top rankings such as our number one vet vet program. It's number one in the world for event in animal science program and we're also number one in the nation for agriculture and environmental. We have a lot of good sustainability efforts that we host on UC Davis were actually rated at three third greenest University, so there's a lot going on the campus. And if you weren't aware, you see Davis.
Is a research facility, So what that means is you're not just going to college and going to classes, you're going to most of our students are involved in research and all of your faculty who are teaching the classes are involved in some type of research program, so a lot of our students have asked, you know, How do I get involved? Well, first and foremost, you know, try to get involved with in the major Department that you're in asking faculty, but we also have some really good programs that will kind of show you in the next few slides. But also, I just kind of wanted to give a little Shout Two Biological Sciences.
There are a very competitive.
College as well and they actually have won the largest percentages of students who do participate in internships. It's about 71% of students actually participate in internships. In the Biological Sciences, and then of course our letters and science letters and Sciences, our largest college. It has the most variety, largest variety of majors, and it has over 55 majors. So that's actually half of the majors that we house on campus belongs to the College of letters and science.
So I know I just kind of shouted out, give you some fun little facts about the majors that you applied to in the colleges, but I just have a few other fun little facts that you may not know about. UC Davis. So the top left picture is a picture of our coffee brewing course, so you can actually take a course where you can learn to design and make your own coffee. An if coffee isn't your thing. We also do have winemaking. Andrews brewery facilities on campus as well. You may have heard of UC Davis Health.
But students can actually volunteer and do a program at our student health clinic on campus, so that's what that middle picture is, so you can actually get involved. You're interested in the health field. You can do an internship on campus. On the bottom picture where the only you see that hasn't equestrian center, which is pretty cool and we have a female Division One sports team. But if you didn't board a horse on campus or didn't own a horse, you can still get involved by taking.
AAA class to learn how to ride a horse. You can also learn to do an internship and you can work with the animals as well. It's a very popular internship in our animal and science program to be able to work with the horses and then if you want nothing to do with the horses but don't mind just want to see them. We have a lot of animals on campus and so as you're walking through campus, you can always stop by and check out. Go to the horse stables and see the different animals that we have all over campus.
So let's see here in the middle picture right here. The best public University of the nation. So a lot of that is.

Hi Alex, yes the webinar is running at the moment

Can you see the slides?
Programs that we have on campus, but one fun fact that we have that a lot of people don't know is that we actually have what's called the Aggie Pack is the largest student spirit organization and that is the largest student spirit organization in the whole entire United States. So if you're really looking for a college course I already mentioned, we have Division One sports teams, which is the highest ranking level of sports teams. As you can have on a college campus. So not only do we have that, but you can also if you didn't want to play or even if you did.
You could be a part of that community that really cheers on all of our sports teams. I feel like at Davis where very large University, but we definitely have that like small town like family feels. So you'll find students from all over the world. We have a large international student population at UC Davis. Of course of our California campus. So we have a lot of California residents about the way we have students from all over the nation. And actually, this web and R right here was designated for a lot of our students who.
Alexander Evans
06:08:24 PM
I can only see one. The one titled Did you know?
You know are all over the nation to us in our southeast area. So if you are interested again spirit at UC Davis is just something you kind of feel, so we're known. One thing that were known for at UC Davis is being a friendly campus.
So coming to campus, uh, you know if you're lost, which you probably will be where a large campus, the first term you know Azure on campus, you'll kind of discover everyone on campus is friendly. You know from the staff members, to the students that are there were just known for kind of looking out for one another.

06:08:44 PM
Yes that's the current slide we are on. Can you hear the presentation?
And then a couple other fun facts is we do have a tractor driving course. It is actually surprisingly, really really popular. There's usually a wait list of 50 people. I personally have never taken this class myself, but it's kind of fun that you don't even have to be in a specific major. You can sign up and learn how to drive a tractor, and then I've already mentioned before Engineering Department, but we do that picture on the bottom is actually a picture of Steve Robinson, and he's a former astronaut. And if you belong to.
The College of engineering. You can take a engineering courses from a former astronaut. Uhm, we do have an aerospace engineering major on campus.
And so those are just some fun facts as far as the question that I had asked, got asked earlier about internship and Career Center. So how can I get involved in campus? I mentioned we are a research institution, so you see, Davis, obviously you can reach out to your faculty if you know of a student who's in a really cool program. You can even do a direct email to that faculty member asking if you know if you can work on their project, but we actually have an internship and Career Center that students can go to.
And what they do is they house over 10,000 different internships every single year across all disciplines that students can get involved in the list. Here just names just a few of.
Programs that we work closely with, but we have internships all over the Bay Area in Sacramento and all kind of show you. For those of you that haven't been to campus, I'll show you where those areas are in just a second, but that's a really great way that you can get involved. We also have really good internships, opportunities in our study abroad program.
So we study abroad. You can go over to over 40 different countries in all Seven continents. I would say that the most popular term is probably summer school, but you can go and we are 1/4 system right? So you can go and fall winter or spring or summer and so the next term that would be available to you as incoming students would be the fall term of 2020. So I would definitely recommend going online and checking out the study abroad programs again. You can do internships, but you can also take classes and instead of maybe being in a really large class. Or maybe when your general Ed or made.
Related courses you would be in a much smaller classroom going study abroad and there's a lot of different opportunities, so check out the different ways you can get involved in studying abroad and how you can use your financial aid intuition to go tord study abroad as well.
OK, where are we so you see, Davis is located in Northern California, so you can see that star on the map right there. The closest city to UC Davis will obviously Davis. We are in the town of Davis, the town of Davis itself is what's considered a small town. We're about 70,000 people, a large portion of that is our students. Our student population makes up half of the town of data, so we are definitely a college town. We're kind of in our.
Own little bubble in the sense that in order to get to the nearest city which is Sacramento, it's only 15 minute drive away. Uhm, I happen to live in Sacramento. It's a quick drive, so that's a very large city. It's our state Capitol. We also have our UC Davis Health Center or hospital there, and then we have the state capital, so there's a lot of internship opportunities there as well. But anyway, it's a very large city, right? But it's about a 15 minute drive, so UC Davis is still kind of isolated.
Which means that we're very safe. We have very.
College going culture that people that live in Davis go to school. So if you're planning on going to school in Davis, it's not required that you live on campus. But almost all of our students do just because all the resources that are available to you. And then if you go, if you're thinking about where the Bay Area is.
Alexander Evans
06:12:44 PM
yes thanks
The Bay Area is going to be just West, so you're thinking of San Francisco. All of those areas. If you started driving ES to drive about maybe 45 minutes, then you would hit the Bay Area and then you would also hit the Bay Area traffic.
Which is, you know, a big city. You have traffic right? Uhm, so it towards if you went to the Bay Area it could take you about 2 hours to get to San Francisco.
So there are some main airports if you're thinking of you know. How can I get to UC Davis and how you know what are the best airports? I'll kind of show you in the next slide. The best areas that you can fly into, but just some other areas. I mentioned Sacramento, but Napa Valley, which is wine country, may have heard of that. Its world famous area for wine is about 45 minutes away. We have Lake Tahoe so Lake Tahoe would be the opposite direction on past Sacramento going East.
So Lake Tahoe is very popular. Um, that picture right? There is a summer picture of the Lake. It's beautiful. It takes about 2 hours to drive up there. Great place for camping, but it's probably if you're from out of town. It's well known for skiing and snowboarding, so a lot of it's a very elite place to go. And ski and snowboard. And if you're actually interested, we do have a ski team and the ski team does rent a cabin there.
I'm every single season and then they offer transportation. So if you are someone who wants to ski or snowboard, I would definitely recommend. I'm looking into the ski team and even we have other trips aren't associated the ski team. There's always trips going on. We have this group called outdoor adventures. I could go on Anon. There's a lot going on at UC Davis, but Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place and you should definitely check it out. I did mention San Francisco hour and a half of them two hours with traffic it could take you to get there. You semite National Park strongly recommend that you.
Take advantage and go to Yosemite. It's absolutely breathtaking and it's only about 3 hours away in the drive doesn't even seem that long because you know once you drive into the mountainous areas it's just so beautiful. So then LA of course is about 6 hours South of UC Davis, but the Northern California area is really awesome if you're really into outdoor adventures hiking you like that city lifestyle and we really have all of it all around Northern California, so it's really neat place if you haven't been to visit. And if you are going to come.
How do you get here? So the nearest airports of course would be Sacramento would be your go to that is the closest airports about a 25 minute drive from campus.
Of course, San Francisco sometimes might have cheaper flights, and that's going to be about an hour and a half. It could even be 3 hours if you hit heavy traffic coming from the airport, 'cause you're going to be in the city, so just just really depends on traffic times for that. And then, of course, San Jose San Jose isn't something that you would probably find on the website, it's more.
It's more going to be something that you would see on line, so or something that you would see in the Bay Area so.
Uh, it's one that I personally fly into. I have family in San Jose and you can find really cheap flight, so I sometimes find some of the cheapest flights from San Jose and so that's why I thought fly out of there often.
But it's a really good. It's a really good place to check out, so those are your three main ones, but I would definitely check out Sacramento first, because it's going to be your closest destination. Now, of course we have Lyft Uber taxis. You have the yellow bus. We do have a train station that runs right through Davis that you can jump on the train. It'll take you to Sacramento also to the Bay Area.
And then Speaking of transportation, we do have free buses that drive all around UC Davis, and so you can jump on the bus. It's free. All you have to do is be a student and then the other popular form of Transportation is probably by side bicycle riding, so riding bicycles is huge. In fact, we have over about 20,000 bicycles on campus at any given day, so if you haven't ridden a bicycle before, that is perfectly OK. You can.
Actually learn, uhm, you can actually go and.
Uh, we have a place called the bike barn which is really cool. You can actually buy a bike there. You can order online, they can have it ready for you. You can get it tagged. They can give you bike riding lessons and plus they have all the gears that you can think of. And then it's really cool. Since we're bike community all over campus, we have bicycle station, so if you get a flat tires need to tighten something up. You'll find all over campus. These really cool stations that you can just pull over and kind of tune up your bike so something that's very unique and.
Really exciting to be an in campus with UC Davis.
So campus community. So I already mentioned that you see Davis is about 70,000 people in about half of the camper. Half of the town it belongs to UC Davis students. So at UC Davis, what you can do is you can anywhere that you're on campus. You can go straight to downtown, so it's about a 10 minute drive or 10 minute bike ride into downtown so.
Um, anywhere that you're incapable just to show you this map right here. It's really interesting, because Davis is a lot larger than this map, of course, but I just wanted to show you what the campus backs into.
So let's see here. I have some really cool pictures of downtown Davis, so we have coffee shops all over UC Davis and then in the picture on the right is a picture of if you can see that structure right. There is over 200 bicycles that took to create that statue right there and then on the bottom left. This is a picture of what we have is our campus.
Uh, we have really good picnics on.
Sorry, we have really good. We have this really awesome event. It's called Picnic Day and we're going to be hosting a live event and I will send you an area link that you can go on and you can kind of check out a bunch of different resources in downtown. All the different areas of UC Davis so I will send you a link where you can check that out but you see date or downtown Davis has a lot of different cool areas. It's kind of like a an upscale little small town. It's very safe. Everyone's riding bikes. You know it's one of those towns that you can feel comfortable.
Not that you ever should be walking late at night, but you could feel really comfortable walking late at night, so it's definitely something that.
You can feel comfortable going downtown. We actually have this really good program. It's called safe ride and safe ride is a program where you can go to campus and no matter where you are, if you're studying late, you can go to campus and you just basically have to be a student and they can give you a ride anywhere that you need to go. So you just call the number. It's actually owned by the Police Department and you can just call them and they can give you a ride to your.
Your arms, or you know, wherever you're going around campus so that you feel safe. So there's a lot of different places that you can eat around campus. So depending on what kind of food that you're interested in and we really have everything like Sushi, Thai, Indian, P.
Pizza, burgers, copy shops, creeks. I don't know if you like Boba. I really got into bobo working at UC Davis. There are boba shops on almost every single corner, so if you're really into food, I definitely think that you will be covered at UC Davis. We have food sources all over. We have food trucks on campus of already mentioned a lot of the restaurants that we have downtown. And then of course we have our dining comments. So if you are going to be living on campus which again most of our students do.
You have three different residents Hull areas, all the different residence halls have a.
A dining comments every column on the DL. So or the DC. You can basically get all of your food right. So the dining Commons you will get a package, right? So if you are living on campus, you can get either a five or Seven day food package and you can go to the dining Commons and you can eat as basically as much as you want within that given day, right?
So you have those options in the course. You can, and that's going to be part of your meal plan. And if you didn't want to do that, you could do the food truck San. Also part of that plan is you get what's called Aggie cash.
And so basically, like kind of a credit cards pre loaded and you can use out of other vendors like all around campus. We have like the copy shop and there's different areas that you can if you didn't want to eat at the dining Commons that you can grab a snack to eat a sandwich, drinks the food trucks so we really do take care of you. And then you're like, well what if I have special needs? I have like, you know, special accommodations. We have some of the coolest chefs on campus and not only do they try to mix it up, they also will cater to whatever dining.
Requirements that you have so you know whether you're vegetarian, vegan gluten free. You know if you have kosher allergies, you name it. They will really accommodate and try to. You know you'll be covered. Is what I'm trying to say so you don't have to worry about. You know flying across country and like having these food restrictions are going to be not only taking care of your gonna have some of the best chefs we have. One of the top ranked dining facilities in the nation so way to go Davis an not only that. We also have a lot of sustainable food sources like I mentioned before.
We're known for being third greenest University, but we have a huge sustainability efforts were really green, recycle, and we really try to source local food sources. Some of our food that we have, we do grow. We have a student farm as soon as we get involved in, you can learn how to grow your own food. So that is something that's really cool and you can get be apart of but a lot of our food sources, like I said, are just locally sourced. They have local ingredients, summer grown campus, and some of our a lot of our partners are actually UC Davis alone so.
I'm very exciting stuff, um housing, and as I mentioned before, so we do have three main housing areas and then within this area there's a lot of different buildings. I definitely recommend going online and checking out the different the different areas so you can kind of see which one would pertain to the most. When you say yes to UC Davis, about 72 hours later, you're going to get an application and on that application in.
You will be able to sign up for your. You'll be able to sign up for your classes or sorry. Sign up for your apartment choices. So for the residence halls you know. Like I said, You have the three different areas. You will also be able to mingle with other students online and try to you know you can determine and rank preferences as far as who you're going to live with. Their is kind of like a dating questionnaire if you will. You will fill in all about yourself and they will try to match you. If you don't have someone in mind.
They will try to match you with the best possible and roommate situation. Check out the housing info online that you can do a virtual tour. They have a lot of videos and they will go through and they just kind of show you what each of the dining areas or the dining areas and then also the housing areas look like. And then also there's a new area I mentioned or I didn't mention in the food area when I talk about food, it's called latitude. It's actually a brand new dining Commons that we have so you actually have access to for now.
Latitude is actually. It's gotten crazy. Good reviews. We just opened it up and we offer cuisines from all around the world so you know, especially if you are, you know, like already mentioned, we have a diverse variety of food, but especially there at latitude and there are always mixing up the menu too. So if you go on to the housing website to the housing website in the dining Commons website, they share a same page together and you could go on and you can kind of do like a little tour and check out all about latitude. All the student videos and all of all of the.
Events that we've had lately. Everyone is just talking it up, so it's a very popular place to be on campus, but something another specific thing to housing which is really cool already mentioned a lot about food, but we have these little live learning communities, which is really cool. So I'm the living learning communities or shared interest communities. What those are you can choose to live in a certain area and that they group students by things that you might be interested in, like engineering.
Uhm, you know the LGB Cutie, a community maybe African American. So it's depending on, you know, whatever you were interested, maybe culturally or just a shared interest, they can group students. And no, you don't necessarily have to live in those areas to belong to these communities. Of course not. But if you're interested in kind of living and meeting students, kind of interested in a shared group, it's something that definitely look into. and I would definitely check it out.
I mentioned a little bit about safe ride. Safe ride is like that. That's a fried that you can take no matter where you're on campus. But we are really big on health, safety and community. Community is something that I think we're all known for at UC Davis, like I mentioned, were very large campus in the small town feel so up above. That's our chancellor Gary. May we have a food program on campus? So kind of no questions asked. We have like a suit needs program so you can get access to food.
You can get access to some basic needs. Anything that you feel like you might need on campus. We have partners that we work with to provide for students and you don't have to be, you know.
Low income is is for all students. Just because all students are in need of something at some point in time. So that's just a service that we offer to all of our students and we have our Health Center as well. That's a picture of our student Health Center, so this is something that I do want to mention to you, 'cause every single campus just does kind of have their own health insurance. Or you know some kind of form like that so it UC Davis all of our students belong to.
Are going to be automatically enrolled in the UC health plan and so essentially what that is going to give you access to is your counseling resources and any kind of like an on campus health emergency or anything like that do you would need. So it's basically kind of like your in-house doctor, right? So you have your accounting services in your doctors and so this is going to UC health plan. It's going to be included in your tuition fees. It's just all kind of together. You are allowed to submit a waiver in. You can.
Opt out that those waivers would be do like in mid September, so that's an option for you too. If you are covered by your parents and you know you can get the coverage here in California, you're more than welcome to opt out. But if you don't want to opt out, just know it's like top tier health services. Here at UC Davis and we definitely take care of our students.
And the right picture there is just a picture of students plane. We do have a lot of different clubs on campus, so we have over 800 different student clubs on campus that you can be a part of. Summer sports related, some are not really to start a club, you just need to have five other students an you can create your own clubs. You can be like the southeast region you know of admitted students. We want to create our own club 'cause we're all from the East Coast. You know whatever you want to do, you can completely do that.
We do recommend students you know. Do you look into those clubs and you can find those all on line? We actually have a online page. It's called are.
And the campus culture. And you can go on and kind of like look up, you know different organizations that you can be apart of. At UC Davis I kind of mentioned that were big on community we have. We were known top ranked. I mentioned that before but a lot a lot of this is because of our communities that we have. So depending on what kind of community or resource that you may need, we have a bunch of different community centers on campus and these are centers that can offer you extra resources. Extra support.
Extra tutoring at times and also you can create, you know, kind of meet other people and create. It's like another community that you can create. I don't. I know I keep talking about community community clubs and finding you know you can find or even live with similar like people just know UC Davis, the community on campus you are going to find that were not clicky like. You can be friends with people from all across the world. A course you're going to meet people in your major. Or if you're playing sports, but you're going to become best friends with people from.
With in all majors, uhm, you know you're going to mean people you know have similar food interest, so there's a lot of different ways to find people that have similarities as you. But we're all kind of known as just one large community. Like already mentioned. We had the Aggie pack that I gay pride that doesn't just go for sports us, kind of for all of UC Davis as a whole, so just know that you will find your community when you come to campus. You know there are a lot of different ways to get involved in.
You know, get involved on campus and meet people. Uhm, you know, but just know that there's going to be a spot for you. OK, we do have one of the best. It's called the Ark. It's our activities and Recreation Center.
You know, and I don't know what all of your high schools look like with think of your high school is just one big gem and that is probably the size of the arc arc that we have is huge and it's always expanding its. You can have workout rooms. We have a rock climbing wall that's actually not pictured on here basketball courts. You can do yoga workout. There's a lot going on at arc center. You have a track so it's huge, but I often when I'm visiting local high schools like how huge is it and I'm like looking around their school. Honestly, right? That's the size of your school.
The Ark is huge, so think about your own personal gem an you have an automatic membership just for being UC Davis student. So it's very cool. We do have already mentioned before. We have Division One athletics. That's the highest ranking athletics.
As a team that you can be and we have over 25 teams that belong to the Division One Division One, but we also have 39 club sports. We have intermural sports and then like I mentioned before, we had over 800 different clubs that you can be a part of. So whether you want to play sports on a professional or a club level or intermural level, we have all of those opportunities for you. Or you can even just like be on the sidelines, cheering, hanging out. We have, uh, like I said the club.
The team spirit, you know when our teams go away, you know when they come back. You know our our students are there to greet them oftentimes, or dressing like pajamas and crazy homecoming traditions that we have. So there's a lot of spirit going on. So if you are interested in sports, just know that you know we do have some Top Rank sports teams.
We also have swimming pools. It's California, it does, you know we have great weather here sunny days, so we have a new rack pool and it's great for you know you can just go and we do have lop swims that you can do, but then we do have wrecked times. You basically just go lay out Tan, soak up the sun, swim in the water. So again that's going to be a part of your.
Gym membership if you will. It's not really membership 'cause you're going to be a member just by being UC Davis student, but.
Pretty cool, we also have bowling centers. We have fillers. We have a gaming room so if you do like to bowl we have a lot of different activities that you can get involved in. We have craft room some other ways to get involved on campus. We actually have a really big Greek life so if you're interested in joining a fraternity or sorority, UC Davis has a large percentage of students involved in Greek life and you can kind of imagine I showed you that picture earlier.
How the downtown kind of backs right into campus. So all of your houses. You're sorting and fraternity there all kind of scattered right around campus too. So it's really fun to ride around campus and you can. Basically, if you're living off campus in this fraternities or sororities, you really just steps from the campus so it's really cool even if you're not a part of it. Just like a cool place to see all those groups and communities of UC Davis students.
Uhm, some other pictures of campus. We have an Arboretum. It's basically we have a very nice Lake in the middle of the campus is actually right by my office. I work in Morocco.
Super on campus. You can come and say hi, but we have the this little loop that you can do around the Lake. It's about a 3.5 mile loop if you want to do. You will always find people running or they'll be over their dogs. People in the community in the course, students, a lot of classes will you know will go out onto the Arboretum. You know whether you're taking art class you'll always see art classes out there painting. It's just a great place to also hang out. I go there just to eat lunch I think is just beautiful place. Annual see Ducks.
An turtles all over, and so it's a really cool place. We also have Redwood trees, so if you are like someone who likes the Woods, there is the poorest you can walk through on campus. I am not kidding. Campuses green. It's very green, is very beautiful. The train of UC Davis is pretty flat, which is great.
It's it's pretty flat. We actually have the largest you see out of all of the 9 University of California campuses. Ours is the largest. This is mainly attributed to our agriculture right already mentioned where the top agricultural school in the nation. So we do have a lot of. We have a lot of of space dedicated to that, but we also have a lot of trees and greenery and bike paths like I mentioned where the top ranked.
Been biking school and we've gotten awards for it to recognize the words. So if it looked up top, if you Google top ranked bicycle schools like UC Davis is going to, you know be ranked right on the top on there because everyone ride their bike through campus and through through downtown here. Just a couple a few other pictures. So that's again I hopefully have touched a little bit on some of the campus community. Just want you no matter what you're interested in, you know whatever.
Hum, major, you're in your hobbies, your sports. Just know that you know there's there's really going to be home for you were pretty inclusive at UC Davis. It's a reason why I really like working here is because of just like the values that we have on campus and how we treat one another.
I I do want to talk about a few other things. More important dates to remember. So in March for freshman is when all of our decisions were released. None of our dates have changed. I know where in this coronavirus you know situation right now.
But our days are still the same in our plans for fall are remaining the same, so we're doing everything that we can to have our courses be held on campus per usual. So everything right now is being planned to have our students on campus. I know there's a lot of campuses in a lot of people asking questions like our our, our semester going to be on line or first semester. As of right now, no, but we are on top of it with following the news and we have to follow just like.
All schools and your schools and we all have to follow what our governor say, a man, what the you know the president says and you know, we're watching really closely the coronavirus and what it's going to do. But we're going right now. We're planning for having all of our students on campus. You know, we're planning for the bus, and I guess we're preparing for the worst. Of course, I'm not going to say we're not. We're not going to, you know, be prepared if that does happen, but really hoping it doesn't. Really hoping that things lift up.
Here in May and universal resumed to normal, but will kind of role of the punches and we will see what happens with the rest of the world. But, you know, we're really hopeful that things are going to be remain the same and we will be back to campus as usual and in September, so all of our deadlines are the same the last day to say yes to our UC campuses are on May 1st. After that you will get your housing application about 72 hours after you say yes and the deadline for that is going to be May 6th.
And then you will have to be sending your transcripts N.
By July 1st, and then if you have any issues with any of these items, you know the best thing to do and just reach out to your admissions advisors and I will show you a couple of places that you can do that in. Just communicate, whatever your needs are so.
For your my admissions, this is where you actually logged into to get your decision right, so this also once you say yes, there is a whole checklist of things that you can do in chekov.
To say if you got, you know like your, you know, similar transcripts. There's like a big To Do List, so you're my admissions portal is going to be your best friend in the sense you're going to want to follow that tuiti an it will link you to all the different resources that we have on campus and then also it's an area that you can reach out. If you have any changes or you need to contact undergraduate admissions. So your next step would be orientation, right? So orientation is a three part process, so our first part are Aggie 101.
So the online tool what you do is you will be. It's basically like an orientation. They're going to expose you to all the different resources on campus, so I know I kind of touched on some of them. This is going to dive deeper into that. And once you say yes, you'll be able to get started on that 101 and then your AGI advising this is going to hear you with number this. For colleges I said that everyone belongs to one of the colleges, so your college advising will have a specific date or specific date set. I will say an you will be talking to an advisor.
Um and this is actually going to be virtual as well.
And this is not because of a coronavirus. This is just because of how we do orientation. Not section is is online and so you will talk to your advisor and they're going to help you sign up for all of your classes. And then the Aggie orientation is.
And 3rd part in the orientation. This is going to be your in person and so if you look at those dates on the right, all of our students are going to move in on September in September. So we're quarter system right? So we start a little bit later, so September 23rd 20. Four. So if you are not used to 1/4 system you get extra summer so you get a whole another month of summer. So enjoy it.
So in September is when we will start. This is your move in date and then you have what I call orientation fun. And that's like a long weekend. You will be broken up into groups and you'll dive into those resources. You'll meet people. You'll have fun, cruise the campus and just kind of dive into see what you see. Davis is all about and then your classes are going to start on September 30th. Yes, that is a Wednesday so that is kind of like what to expect getting started. But I never wants a little bit more a little bit more.
We had this cool experience. I don't know if you got to see any of it online, but it was called Aggie experience but if you want to get you know you want to really feel that Aggie experience you want to learn more? Check out videos and go to ucdavis.edu. Go on line and you were going to find a bunch of different resources like I already mentioned going to the housing resources we have YouTube videos. Check out our social media pages. You can go on line and they can you know there's a ton of different things you can find on Instagram on Facebook that will really bring you.
In connection with the students and you know, just kind of like seeing the campus.
So for those of you who are in the South, Southeast Territory, meaning you're not in California on the East Coast, I do have a southeast Aggie group that you can join if you have a phone on you, you can actually just.
Like you're going to take a picture, scan the QR code on the on the screen that you see right there and that should take you directly to the page. There is also an invitation link on the invitation that you got to sign up for this webinar. I had the link there.
You can sign on there that it's going to be a direct link to myself and to tie if you have any questions you can ask us on there. You can also ask us in this chat as well.
And then Lastly we have the my admissions.ucdavis.edu. So this is a place that you can go to and it's basically asking advisor what you can do is you can log on. You can ask a question and you're going to be sent to one of the many advisors that we have at UC Davis. It's not a bot, it's a real person and we will answer your questions for you. Or we might be like Hey, give me a call 'cause I wanna talk to you in person. So it's going to be one of those. One of those routes. So there's a lot of different ways.
That you can reach us and like I said, We are here for you.
And during this time I kind of wanted to, um, I kind of talked about this semester already. I had mentioned a lot about the culture there is. If you go to UC Davis website, there is a good link that you can go to. I know somebody had asked about financial aid so financially. So if you're a non California resident, some of the financial aid options for you, you can qualify for federal financial aid. You would have to have submitted the fasfa.
You can also apply for our institution scholarships, so you're going to want to go to our financial aid page or UC Davis financial aid page. You can access this also through your mind missions or you can just go straight through your your portal or you can go straight through the website to the financial aid office and you can see the different institutional scholarships that we have. We also have a link to outside self scholarships, so these are have been kind of vetted through their safe. You can click on those and it will take you to the scholarship page.
We also have a link that you can get alternative loans and you can kind of look into all about information so you're fine. And also if you have specific questions for financial aid. They also have a link kind of like we have the Ascot Advisor Link. They have one two and so you can click on that and send them a specific financial aid type of question and they'll shoot back with you. A response. I know some of you sometimes have questions about you know your resident. How do you become a California resident that can really?
Only be determined by our office of uhm.
Our our resident deputy so they can only their legal evenly ones that can give you information on that, but if you wanted to reach out to them, it's the office of the registrar or you can reach out to tire myself on that WhatsApp group. Or you can do the emissions advisor and we can. We're happy to send you those links, so whatever your situation is or questions you can feel free to ask us if you have any questions. Right now you can feel free to send him through your chat. That's all that I have for you today. I encourage you again to get on the WhatsApp Group.
I'm going to go back if you just want to take a look at that and you can jump on there. Or again, you can just ask an advisor. We have a lot of different sources in ways I carried mentioned. You see, Davis is known as the friendly campus. Part of that is because you know we answer the phones so you can give us a call.

On campus, if you haven't been to UC Davis, it is absolutely beautiful. I have lived all up and down California. I've actually worked for several of the uses an UC Davis is my favorite. I worked for UC San Diego and UC Berkeley and I and of course Davis now Ann Davis.'. I think the prettiest campus in the friendliest campus. Not to mention, you know world ranked for a lot of sustainability efforts and I'm really big into that environment so.
That's just me personally, but I just like to be a part of that community, so I don't see any more questions from you guys. But again, I want to thank you so much for joining us today an I hope to see you on our WhatsApp group or I hope to talk to you in person through the admissions advisor and I'll show you that link one more time.
