Hi, I can hear you, from Thailand.
A territory, uh, so you if you attended one of the Big College Fair. Uhm that just school hosted uh, you might have ran into me at one point during the fall recruitment season. I'm here, uh today, joined by my colleague Veronicas in day has. So if you have any questions throughout the presentation you can hold, you can hold Emma to Turista in or you can.
Type it in the chat area in my colleague will be more than happy to assist with answering the questions as we move along this web and our First off I would like to congratulate you on being admitted into UC Davis. You are admitted into a top five public University in the United States, something you should be very proud of. This year we have. We had a very competitive applicant pool of over 75,000 application.
So you are one of the lucky. Few's that uh uh was admitted from um our applicant pool this year, so today. We're going to talk about finding your best Fit University. We understand that you got as students. You guys apply to multiple University and we want you guys to understand that you know, making this next decision on where you attend University in the fall. It's a very.
Critical decision that you have to make. Again, we want to educate you and talked about some factors that you should definitely put into consideration when you are selecting a University. So today we're going to talk about the different factor that involved in the best fit University for you to consider when picking up University, so fit matters. So when we talk about.
Uh, if it matters what we're talking about is the college fit the college fit basically is the measure of how much a college or University meets your needs and your wants. Damn, finally, a college that's right for you means understanding that many aspects of fit which we will, uh, be covering in the next couple of slides.
Some questions that you should consider are are actually self what you want an unique as well as your family, what they need and what they expect from a University and also as a unit University of what it has to offer it and what it can provide you um during your time at that University so.
Some of the factors some of the fit factors that we're going to be covering. We're talking about academics, OK, what kind of academics does, uh, the University offered? You were gonna talk about. So the social aspect of the University? Well, we're going to talk about the environmental aspect. The financial aspect, in the professional aspect of.
Uh, of what the University has to offer for you.
So these are the factors, UM, in terms of academics you know. Uhm, when we talk about academics, uh, it's in regards to, uh, what kind of academic programs does the University offers for you? Does the academic, uh, uh, search your knees as a learner in terms of social? Well when we talk about social, we're talking about access to an accepted by individuals.
Yeah, and communities? Uh, environmental. We were talking about the location. The campus size, uh, the UM financial. We're talking about the affordability or the cost of attending the school are relative to your families income and professional. We're talking about the potential too large or facilitate your future career. What kind of preparation does the school offer for you in terms of research, opportunity, internship? So those are some. These are the five.
Fit factors that you should consider when you are selecting a University to attend.
So in terms of academics, saw some questions to ask. Does this University offer your field of study at UC Davis? We have over 104 major students to choose from. What they what these hundred and four major their house in four different academic universe, 4 different colleges.
And one of the great things about UC Davis is that we are very flexible in our academic policy. So if this, if a student is admitted into the college or Asian Environmental Science and the student wants to pick up a double major in a different college, that's totally possible. Or if a student.
Uh, it's a million to one college, and they realize that, no, that's not the major that I'm interested in. They can easily, uh, submit a petition to transfer into a different major, or change their major. and I, as an alumni, UC Davis, I can definitely attest to that and said that it is very flexible in in this really easy to change. A major at UC Davis. Some universities in the United States, whatever college you are admitted into your basically.
Stuck in that college? Uh, you cannot pick another major outside of that college. So at UC Davis we are very flexible in terms of our academic policy in that we allow students to a double major change their major into a different college an or pick up a minor and other questions to ask in terms of academic fit is How do I learn best? do I learn best in a large group setting? do I learn best in their smaller classroom size?
Uh, at UC Davis. We are on 1/4 system, meaning that we have 3 academic uh quarters per academic year and it's a very fast pace environment. Each academic quarters last 10 weeks. So if you are in a class that has three midterms plus a final exam, that means you have any mid term exam every three weeks in in during your tenth weeks you have your final exam so.
Compared to some other schools in the United States which are on the traditional two semester, uh, uh, terms per academic year, which each semester classes around 16 weeks. So you have 3 academic terms, 10 weeks each, or two. Academic semester, 16 week each. Something today that some another factor for students to consider also would have finally actually Dimick support. What kind of academic support is available for you at that University?
Are you see Davis, we have lots and lots of supports for our students. We have our undergraduate Research Center so that centers is essentially the pair students up with undergraduate research that's going on on the University. So if you are interested in doing research as undergraduate students, you are more than welcome to go to the academic Research Center and they will pair you up with some sort of academic research that's within your field of interest. Or you feel a study.

Can I take courses during the summer?
We also have academic Resource Center. This is our big Tutoring Center on campus. UC Davis. You would not have to worry about taking a course is an and getting help in those courses. We have free tutoring, an chemistry, math, writing, support biology in course that you can think of. We will have academic tutor available to help you. As a former student at UC Davis.
I have definitely taken advantage of this service in. I have used the free tutoring service that the academic Resource Center has provided. A student asked can I take some? Can I take courses during the summer? Yes, you are more than welcome to take courses during the summer. We have summer session available to students as well.
The social aspect. This is very, very important in selecting a University. You want to feel welcome at that University. You you want to be involved? Uh, at that University. So some questions to consider. What kind of clubs does this college or University provide? How do I find my community? Where can I get help if I'm feeling down so at UC Davis we have over 800 student clubs in organization. UC Davis.
One of the larger UC campus in the UC system. We have over 31,000 undergraduate students, so that's not including the graduate students. That's just the undergraduate students we have over 31 thousand students, so it's a very very big campus in terms of land lies. You see, Davis is the largest campus in the UC system, so you will facet UC Davis has over 800 student clubs and Organization for you to participate in.
Hum within these clubs are organization. Uhm it includes our Greek life. So the for the fraternity in the sororities we have uh different academic based interest club. We have different cultural base, interest club and anything that you can think of. There's going to be some kind of club organization that will cater to your interest or to your hobbies or to your needs.
Well, In addition to that, uh, we also have a a very good student, a student health and Wellness Center that provides counseling to you. We also have a state of the art recreational facility Center for students in terms of exercising or having a place to hang out and play sports.
The environment till aspect environmental aspect is very, very important. You know some questions that you need to consider. Oh whereas this college or University located what kind of weather should I expect? How safe are the neighborhoods and How do I get around? Uh, well, you see Davis. We are located in Northern California, so we are the furthers UC campus up North California, the next closest UC campus to us is UC Berkeley.
We actually started out as a UC Berkeley, a sister campus, until we broke Offen start and became our own UC campus.
After a few years an I as of right now we are pretty much as big or even bigger than UC Berkeley. Overall an an an A student size. Um, however, one of the unique characteristic of UC Davis is that even though we're a large Division One University we are located in a small college town. So for example, we are probably.
1/4 of the size of Bang Cock so if you if you are from Thailand, uhm, and you know how you know how crazy Bangkok traffic can be? Davis is nothing like that. Uh and I Davis you have? Uh, the city. Davis has around 54,000 residents. Half of those residents are made up of college student, so it's a college town setting an when we mean a college town setting is basically saying that half the
Population within that time with the city are made up of college students. It's very safe. Um, it's a very safe a city. Uhm, very safe campus overall, our campus has what's called, um, safe rides, so if students are taking a late class at night, or they're studying in the library late at night and they are not comfortable going to The Walking or biking to the bus stop or biting back to the campus dormitory.
Um, all they have to do is download an app and request a safe write. An uhm, a uh, someone from the safe ride will meet you at at the designated meeting point where you guys are going on and they will escort you back to the camp campus dormitory or to your bus stop.
How do I get around, um, the city of Davis? I has a Umuna Tran bus system, which is that red bus that you see right there and it's actually owned and operated by UC Davis. So UC Davis will train college students to drive those buses and drag them around the city of Davis. The campus is the bus, a hub for all the bus line, so all the bus lines that runs about the city will come back to.
See Davis campus an as a UC Davis students you get to ride these buses for free. All you have to do is show them your UC Davis ID and the majority of our students who live off campus after they move out of the campus dormitory uses the bus system to get back to campus because throughout the studio Davis, every major apartment complex that you live in will have a bus line near or right outside of.
The apartment complex that will take you back to campus and I will say the furthers a bus line campus bus lines that will get you back to campus is roughly anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes, but majority of our students will live within 10 minutes of bus right away from campus once they move off campus.
Next, the next aspect to think about is financial. Some questions to ask how much is the annual car cost of attendance, tuition plus room and board, plus books and supplies. What is the return on investment? You know how to apply for financial aid and scholarship? Can I get help finding a job so you see Davis as an international students? You can only work on campus. You can work on campus for a maximum of 20 hours per week.
Are you see Davis, we have a UM student. A job website were a different department's, uh throughout campus. Will post all of their student jobs in. When I was a student at UC Davis, I never had any issue applying for student jobs. There was plenty and plenty of student jobs postings available for students to apply for.
In terms of fund, a scholarship scholarship is very limited for international students because we are a California public institution, we have to cater mostly to our California residents for financial aid wise. However, there are some very few limited institutional scholarship that international students can apply for once they enroll at UC Davis and when you apply to UC Davis UC application.
Also serve as your financial your scholarship application. So if you are awarded some kind of scholarship, you would have been notified once you have been admitted.
Polish fit factors? Uh to consider is the professional aspect of it. Some questions for you to ask is how can I get an internship or their research opportunities available? Can I connect with companies in my field? What if I want to go to grad school? So as you see Davis, we actually have one of the largest internship and Career Center in the UC system? Are intership increasing? It has internship partnership sites with over 10,000 different employers or sites.
Ah, throughout the world. Amazingly, I have students who are from Malaysia that, uh, was able to get a internship back in Malaysia during the summer when they go home to visit the parents during a summer break for summer vacation. Uhm, I have students coming from Brazil. They're able to get Inter ship back in Brazil door after their freshman year and they went back home during summer break. So yeah, you can definitely have the opportunity to do an internship.
And use our intership increase in our service research opportunities. Like I mentioned, we are a public Research University so there's definitely research opportunity available for our students an about 70% of our student graduate having conducted research experience, Fortune 500 company recruits directly from the UC Davis campus. Being that we are the number 5 ranked public University in the United States.
Fortune 500 companies love coming to our campus and recruiting our students into the professional workforce and also the international students are able to attend the different career fairs that are University put off. I've had students who have landed jobs and their employers was able to sponsor their work visa for them to stay in the United States. We also have Graduate School programs for our.
Uh, students as well and majority of our students do, uh, go on to Graduate School and they are admitted into their first choice Graduate School. So just to sum it up, uh, basically, we've talked about the different aspects of the the college, fit a system, an different factors that you should definitely.
Consider when you are selecting your University, we understand that you see Davis is a fit for some students and you see a, but you see this might not be a fit for some other students. So we wanted to put on this web note to, uh, educate students about what factors they should be considering when they are selecting a University, an uhm, we hope that you were able to do enough research, and at UC Davis.
Is a good fit for you, um, Lastly uh, some important dates for you guys to remember. May 1st is the ASIR deadlines Sir is is basically you are the deadline for you to say yes I am coming to UC Davis or no I am not coming to UC Davis. We've also created a WhatsApp group for new incoming students from Southeast Asia. If you scan this QR code, you will be added.
To the what are the Southeast Asia Aggies? A group WhatsApp Group? And it's a great opportunity for you to connect with other students. Car, uh, are admitted from Southeast Asia. An I myself will be managing this a WhatsApp group. So if you have any questions throughout this process, you are more than welcome to drop a question into the group chat group and I will try my best to keep up with everything and answer that. Or you can.
Either connect with other students, uhm, that are coming to UC Davis and you can even find try to find you a roommate. Also, um, at UC Davis. We do allow roommate requests for our housing. Um, our dormitory is guaranteed up for up to two years, but majority of our students do move out after their first year out of the campus dormitory. Because being a college town, we have lots and lots of apartments.
Options available off campus for students and living off campus will give students more flexibility, so majority of our students to choose to live off campus after their freshman year. But if you want to stay for a second year and the campus dormitory, you would definitely do guarantee you that we will provide you on campus housing for up to two years, so definitely scan that app and join that group if you.
Would like to be added to the Southeast Asia administrators with WhatsApp.
That basically concludes the presentation. So at this time I will um answer any questions that you guys uh, would like to know more about UC Davis. Uhm, I really do appreciate use using your Friday evening. So it's Friday evening in Southeast Asia right now. It's Friday morning here in California to join me on this web and are so, um, I will open it up for questions now.
Don't be afraid to ask question anything that you would like to know about UC Davis. We are here to provide you with the information that you need to make this very big life. Changing experience? Experience a decision.

question
I'm sure you want to know more information about you. See Davis, so I want I'm gonna talk. Go ahead.

What facilities are there related to animal science which really help the students?
So one thing I wanted to talk to you guys about is that well well. If you see Davis because we are such a large campus. We are very big on biking. So our campus as I mentioned earlier is the largest in the UC system or campus stretches over 5000 acres so one of the biggest thing you will notice about UC Davis that we have lots and lots of bites so on. A typical day. You will see around 20,000 bikes on campus. So it's very important that you learn how to ride a bike so.
Um, on a typical day when you're when you're on campus, are bytes are on campus is similar to the motor bikes that you will see in bang Cock, so we have lots and lots of bikes on campus and you would need to learn how to ride a bike and wants to get to campus. You would need to go and get a bike. We have a bike store on campus and we also have a bike store in downtown Davis so don't worry about bringing a bike from home once you get here you can go and get a bite from.
Either are on campus bike shop or the bike shop in Davis, uhm, so, uh, we're very big on biking, and that's one of the biggest things students notice. Once they get our campus that we have lots and lots of bikes on campus. So a question here is what facilities are there related to animal science, which will really help the suit so very good question so.
Animal science is one of the most popular major in the college at Agnor Environmental Science. Uhm College. I was fortunate as a students to take a few classes in that Department or that major for my general education when I was a student there an because we are very big on the agriculture side we have lots of animals facility on campus, just nine different animal barns, facility on campus and one of the great thing about this is that if you are an animal.
Science student, you get priority to, um, any uh, to work in these uh animal Barnes, an exchange for 10 hours of volunteer work per week. You get free housing in the animal barn facility, so it's a great way for animal science major to get free housing starting their sophomore year. The second year onward and a lot of your classes. Your labs.
Animal science laboratory classes will be hands-on out in the animal farm facility. So when I took a animal science introduction to animal science, I will go to the lecture at a one hour lecture in in the lecture Hall and then during lap time I will go to a 2 hour laboratory working hands on with the animals on campus.
That's a very good question. Let me know if you have any other questions in regards to your majors or about the campus in general.
And in terms of research, wise, uh, like I mentioned earlier, you guys will have opportunity to conduct research as a UC Davis students. Majority of our students do conduct research starting with their sophomore year and onward. You can either do research with one of the faculty members in your major or in your department's, or as I'm as I mentioned earlier, you can go to the undergraduate Research Center, Ann. Do sign up for research that's going on that's related within your field.
Of academic interests, so, um, you definitely will have the facilities to work with animals and also conduct research at the same time.

Any other questions?
Any other thing said you guys are interested about, uh, would like to know more about you. See David Stocker. Mentioned Davis is a very very large campus, but we are located in a small college town so majority of our students if they want to fall for the weekend. If they want to go out and explore, they will either go to Sacramento. Sacramento is the next closest large city.
It is the state capital of California. Uhm, it's roughly around 20 minutes away from Davis or they will go out to San Francisco. San Francisco is a large, booming city, uh, similar to bang cock that's located about hour and a half away from Davis. Uh, as I mentioned before, everything about the city of Davis revolves around the University being a college town. the CIA Davis caters really caters to our students. Downtown Davis is.
Around 5 minute walk off campus. Uhm, so you know, during lunchtime you might want to go into downtown Davis and eat. I wanted the local restaurant or eateries and you might even run into your professors. Alot of our professor at UC Davis live in the city of Davis, so you might go to the grocery store and you might even run into your classmate. Or you might run into your your faculty, professor or faculty members. So it's a very unique setting.
Come in terms that, uh, everything about the city walls around the University IT staff. It's a It's a faculty and its students, uhm?
In addition to this, uh, we I forgot to mention, but we are a Division One School. Overall we have 23 sports at the Division One level and one of the great thing about UC Davis is that any of our home sporting events is free to our students. So if you want to attend.
American football game, or if you want to attend a a soccer game basketball game volleyball game, all you have to do is just show your student ID and you will receive free admissions into any of our home sporting events. So that's one of the great thing about being a Division One school that were able to offer to our students in terms of campus recreational in campus life activities for students.
Wanna one of the unique things that you will know about UC Davis inside during the first or second week of every quarter, we have a uh in our, uh, a quad area. That's basically the center of campus we have all of our student clubs and organizations come out there and table just like how you would attend a college fair. While you're high school, these clubs and organizations will come out there and table and provide information about their.
Organization and recruit new student members to join their organization, so you would definitely have the opportunity to explore to see which community fits your needs and you want and you can definitely have a opportunity to find your community on our campus.
Any other questions are from students.
If not, let me ask you guys. Are you guys? Are you guys in school right now or is your school? Um, going to online learning because of the coronavirus situation?

I have finished school
Joycelyn Intanate
06:32:41 PM
my IB exams were cancelled
Hours OK, so we we have students that have finished school but very good. So dumb. As I mentioned, you know, Uh May 1st is RSI. Our deadline and uh, once you submit your ASIR Please remember to, uh, work on your housing application. Your housing application is do right away after you have your SISIR deadline. As I mentioned we do accommodate room request at UC Davis.
So if you have no another student that's coming to UC Davis, all you have to do is just make sure you and that a student, uhm, your application, all the information matches up and we will honor the roommate requests. We have three different dormitory areas on campus, and, uh, we have one dormitory campus off campus.
And we have 17 different uh housing theme floors. So if you are international students, we have the international student dormitory where you will live among other international students. Or you might even live with some California students who want to live in the international theme floors to meet other international students. We also have like a pretty healthy floor. We also have an engineering thing for a business team floor.
Joycelyn Intanate
06:34:10 PM
How does this affect my application?
Collecting flora, quiet hour, a team floor so we have lots of different, uh, uh, options for you, um, a student asked IB exams or cancelled so as of right now we are closely monitoring the situation. We understand that what the, uh, coronavirus situation happening throughout the world.
You are educational, experience a can or will be affected by that. So if your um IB exams or or cancel all you have to do is just update that for us. You can go into your um, my emissions UC Davis. My emissions web page. And um, there should be a tab this uh, in regards to reporting changes and just basically update us and just say that my IB exams at my school.
Wow work cancel an well we will take it from there. We totally understand that as seniors you guys are going through challenging times right now with the current virus pandemic and we are very, uh. We are very aware of that and we will definitely take it on a case by case note. But we need you guys to report that changes to us so that we would know and we will not hold you to that.
So at this time, if there is no more questions, uhm, then I will end this web and R and I hope that you guys are able to join me in the WhatsApp Group and I hope to see you here at the UC Davis campus.
