I don't want to waste your time, so let's go ahead and get started. My name is Devin, an admissions advisor. An alumni from UC Davis. I am really excited to be hosting this webinar for you guys today. First things first, I want to make sure you can hear me go ahead and chime on the chat if you can hear me. You should see all your messages pop right up in there something else to keep in mind. Um, we do have closed captioning if you click the icon in the top right, the captioning will appear in the chat. It's an automated service, so it's not perfect.

I can hear you.
Kind of the key here is it looks like we have some students who some of you have been admitted, but you're not sure you have an Sir yet, and some of you have submitted your Sir. So we're excited. For those of you who have already committed, you're already coming to Davis. This is going to give you a great feel for some things to look forward to. For those of you who maybe aren't sure yet, this is going to be let's go ahead and roll right into it. We're going to give you the five most popular reasons students choose Davis. So for those of you who haven't submitted your SSI at your next steps are really.
Your next step is choosing if Davis is right for you. So when we want to give you some reasons why students choose Davis.
The and I'll talk about a quick timeline to give you some more. Some tasks that you'll need to complete, but those are mostly going to be for students submitted their S IR already, but let's go ahead and jump into it. The five reasons that most students choose you see Davis number one is going to be our beautiful campus. This is a pretty obvious one. It's absolutely gorgeous. Has everything a student could need or want. You can see here. Just the beautiful sun. The architecture we've got lots and lots of trees.
Um, something you know these are Amazing California weather we have over 250 sunny days a year, no snow and we averaged 20 or so inches of rain. It's kind of fluctuates, but like I said, average of 20 so we do get rain. Nothing too crazy. Like I said, lots of sun so you do get to take advantage of that California weather on the left you can see the residence Hall for our first year students. Housing is guaranteed for future students, so if you have been admitted you will have a spot. If you want it. So keep that something to keep in mind. There's lots of options for housing. You will select your prey.
References in your housing application. So once you've submitted your Sir or your statement of intent to register, I'll call it an essay are from now on. Then you'll do your housing application right after and you can find all the info for how to do that and all your enrollment tasks on my admissions and I can talk. Like I said, I'll mention that briefly towards the end.
On the South side of campus we have a lot of wildlife. It's all part of our Arboretum home, 2000s of species of wildlife. We have a Creek we have. Gardens are Redwood Grove an more. There's also a really nice lengthy jogging path. Serves as a great as an outdoor laboratory. Mostly what I use it for. what I still use it for is kind of a nice backdrop for ajag or a picnic change of scenery for students that are studying a nice lunch break. Whatever it is. So I love Arboretum my campus.
Uh, when I was looking at schools. Campus dining was a big factor for me. I'm all about food, having good food, delicious food, healthy food. Here at Davis, students who live on campus will have a meal plan which can be used at any of our three dining Commons. You can see one of 'em on the left. They have delicious food, from sustainable in responsible sources, and they worked cater to all dietary restrictions, and I can tell you, the food is really good in the dining Commons. I had a meal plan I only lived on campus for my first year, but I had a meal plan all four years cause I love eating in the dining Commons.
For students grabbing a quick bite, the main place to go is the coffee house or we called the coho, and that's going to be on Memorial Union, otherwise known as the M you something to learn about Davis, and I'm sure a lot of other college campuses is. There's a lot of abbreviation, so coho and NU or two staples that we use all the time. But the Merle Union and the coho entirely student run the coho offers an extensive menu of options that are going to fill pretty much anything you could be craving, and then the silo is on the South side of campus. They have food as well. They have a made to order creep. Stan imports had sandwiches.
And they have a variety of local food trucks that they host every single day. There is a minimum of like 5 on campus and they rotate all the time and then for the freshest ingredients. Both folks can also take advantage of our student farm which helps to stock the pantry, which is a program to provide freeze food. Just students to help combat food insecurity on campus. So we will make sure students, no matter Wat, have not only access to food but good food. Healthy food in a variety of options too.
So and then our campus also has a lot of things that are kind of for more recreation, so you can see are gorgeous pool that was recently renovated. We have our bowling and billiards lounge as well. We also have a variety of museums on campus and other things to kind of. Keep students entertain bowling alleys and I'll talk a little bit about downtown area as well. 'cause that has some other activities too.
So the second reason that students would choose Davis is the experience that you can get, whether it's inside the classroom or outside. I would say, especially outside the classroom you can see here one of our most popular classes. I believe it abt. 49 it's tractor driving, which is of course that I actually took and really enjoyed. You can see a picture there of that and then on the right you can see the it's a class called. The coffee is coffee lab course.
Um, and you can see students that and it involves brewing and tasting different types of rose, so very hands-on, very unique.
And these are just two of many, many unique courses that we have that provide that hands-on learning, uh, away from campus. So students can still learn and get that hands-on experience in a lot of different locations. In Sacramento, we have our medical school where students can secure internships as well as are you. See Sacramento program. For students interested in political science policy, lobbying, etc. We also have our Bodega Bay Marine Laboratory where students can partake in summer residence program, so you can see a photo of some of the hands on experience on the bottom left and then you see, Davis also boasts one of those expansive study abroad programs of the UCS.
With programs that visit over 40 countries on every continent to give you a little example of something that we do, we have. I studied global literature in Greece and with the UCD was professor, so we have our study abroad and then our education abroad programs offering two different options for you to study abroad, either with the UC Davis, Professor Anna UC Davis Program or you can enroll in an institution outside of the United States, and those courses will transfer over so different opportunities for.
Different levels of immersion, getting different experiences outside of the US, so it's really awesome.
And of course, you're considering what's going to happen after four years two, so Davis wants to make sure that you're learning, but also building up your resume, potentially making some extra money as well, helping you pay for school with different work and internships on and around campus. Our student government, ASU CD is one of the biggest budgets of college student governments in the US, and they allow students to have a lot of influence over campus decisions. Alot of those positions are include stipends and their paid, and they also give you experience you can put on your resume.
Uh, a lot of things that they oversee also offer different jobs and things for students on campus. One of those being unit trans, which is our student run bus system. You can see one of our buses there. We have lots and lots of 'em. All these red buses around their driven and repaired by students and which is great work experience. Also money and help you pay for school. We also have a unique opportunity called the barn residence program which is one of many ways to support students in needs of housing will also providing experience. Getting that working with animals on a daily basis you can see.
One of our students holding a lamb that are sheep barn there, which I think is so cool in the little lambs when it's lambing season. Oh, they're so cute. Our internship and Career Center put students in over 10,000 internships every year. I personally didn't internship and singing ago with a local CBS News Station to learn more about journalism so you don't have to do your internship and Davis, even in California, you can do it anywhere. So if you were home for a summer you want, there was an opportunity nearby or you wanted to do something anywhere you can do internships. You can get course credit you can get. Sometimes there paid. It really depends.
And they help students get those. You can also get them yourself. Lots of options for you there.
Uh, and then another thing I like to add here is the fact that with an students building up their resumes and really with all these different experiences, about 80% of our students do go on to some sort of graduate program and a majority of those students end up at their first or second choice school. So whether students are getting research or internships or jobs on campus, there's lots of different ways for students to build their resumes, and so they're competitive applicants for jobs, but also a lot of times for different graduate programs, and those could be medical school that programs law school.
Or other just Masters in PhD programs. So lots of things there to keep in mind.
Um, finding a place where you can be healthy, physically, mentally, and environmental.
Super important as well. And here Davis we take all of those things very seriously. First, we are very green. We have various rankings for sustainability efforts all around campus with our reliance on green transportation like our public transportation buses are eco friendly bikes. We keep our impact on the environment super low. We also consistently implement ecofriendly practices like having solar panels, constructing LEED certified buildings with things like skylights in place of lighting. So we're using natural light instead of electricity.
We're also committed to recycling and composting. We have separate bins all over campus so everyone can do their part to support the environment and then kind of circling back. Biking is a major part of UC Davis culture. It's good for the environment, yes, but also good for you. So In addition to exercise from bike transportation, students also have full access to our recently renovated or expanded activities and Rec Center. It's a fully loaded gym with exercise classes, rock climbing wall, basketball and racquetball courts, you name it.
And that's including tuition, no additional fees required. You can also see we offer things like free yoga sessions throughout the year in the quad for physical and also mental health. So lots of different programming efforts there.
Uh, our dining halls? Campus eateries, an pantry all offer healthy food options. Like I mentioned, we also have a farmers market on campus so students have access to fresh, organic produce on a regular basis. And then you can see also in the bottom corner, student health and Wellness Center. They have pretty much everything you can imagine. Their physicians, optometrists, you name it. It's really great program to support student help on campus.
Another reason that students choose Davis is because of school spirit. That was something that I really wanted was students that really cared about the school and a community that really supported that. So big way that's cultivated is with sports. We do have over 20 NCAA Division one sports teams, including football, so we're one of only three UC campuses. With football. We also have basketball, equestrian beach volleyball. The latter two are the newest additions to our NCAA sports.
All events are free for students and we have a massive student cheer section called the Aggie Pack which includes free swag so you can get free shirts and other things. Tube socks is like the big coveted item that makes these events so much more enticing to be apart of. There's also a lot of opportunities to play sports with club teams, intermural rec opportunities, so whatever level of support you were interested in, there's something for you, but you see the spirit extends past athletics, so the location of the school you want to attend. Super important.

I have not been to Davis.
And that's something I'm sure a lot of you are thinking about it. Many. I don't know if those of you who have not been to Davis you can go ahead and share that if you have or have not. But that's something you probably wondering, like what's it like? Like I have no idea and being from out of state there's even more questions about just what California is like, but to give you a feel for Davis, we are truly a college town. So we have alumni and community members that all come together to celebrate the campus. And you want to contribute to the student experience. So it's, uh?
Really great place to spend your college years because everything is about the student experience, which as someone who is from I was from. I'm from San Diego so I was about 500 miles North of home which still in state. But it was very far from home so it did kind of feel nice to have this welcoming community that really cared about my experience and wanted to give me all the opportunities that they could.
And Lastly, uhm. The most common thing you'll hear students say yes, spirit is Gray are how green our campuses. How beautiful it is. All these things are definitely great reasons, but I think the most common and most important reason is the community aspect of Davis. So you'll hear that people here are friendly. There are supportive of one another. We have a very collaborative environment which really makes it a wonderful place to study, to learn and to live. So we have physical spaces like our residence halls, international centers, you Community Center, all the offer.
Students opportunities to congregate and connect in actual real time and space is. We also have programming and various campus groups for students to find their space like their home on campus, wherever that may be. Whether it's we have our 800 clubs, Greek life, hundreds of employment opportunities, internships, research and more all allow students to find things are passionate about and meet others that share those interests. So I see someone's not been to Davis yet. That's OK. I'm sure a lot of people have been a Davis before.
Hum, maybe being admitted. Um, were a little bit smaller. I can show you a map a little bit later, but we're right outside Sacramento, which is a pretty big city and it's really growing and blooming an it's a really fun place for young adults for lack of a better word.

I haven't been either
And it is our state Capitol. So there is politics and other things there, and we're only about 2 hours away from 2 hours. If you want to include traffic, that is something that you have to keep in mind for California is traffic but one to two hours away from the Bay Area. So that's going to be like the main hub for all. Like urban, busy, fun big activities. So that's very easy to get there. But I will tell you, there's a lot going on Davis. We do a good job of having extensive programming on campus and in downtown.
Davis and surrounding areas, so there's plenty of going on so that kind of gives you a feel for kind of the Davis vibe.
And yeah, so that's kind of the main five reasons. Uhm, I want to wrap up um, kind of by sharing. I love this story and this is what I chose, Davis.
The fact that there is a space for people of all walks of life here, including you. Uhm, when you talk to alumni when you talk to current students and you ask them about their experience, just ask them what they did on campus and tell them. Ask about their their Davis experience. You're going to hear a lot of very unique, different things. You're going to hear about people that were in animal science and they worked in the equestrian center and they worked with you. Know, different animals and things like that or you'll hear about for about an athlete who was a part of their team and they got to meet all these different people and they love their coach and they handle these experiences.
Or someone who was in a club or had another job or studied abroad, or multiple different things, and they're all going to be different stories, but the end of the story is all going to be the same. They're all going to share that they love Davis, and it was a great place to spend there for years, and they couldn't imagine being anywhere else. And that was kind of the kicker for me. That made me decide. You know what I want to make my own unique story and find my place on this campus of place that I'm going to really love. So, and that's what we really work hard to do is find a home. And there is a home for you on our campus.
So some physical tasks that you guys can work on, some important dates to remember. You guys have about 2 weeks to decide if you want to come to Davis. I hope you decide you want to. If you have any questions, we're going to have a bunch of Q&A is at the Bunch of opportunity for Q&A at the end, but the deadline to submit your Sir is May 1st, and once you do that in my admissions, which you all should have created that by now you're my admissions. At the bottom, there's only really, Sir, in there right now. Once you hit that and you follow through and you put in your deposit.
Once that's all been completed, you're going to see a whole check list of all the things that you need to do, and that's going to give you all the exact timeline, so there's a variety of things some of them are going to be easy, quick things. You can chekov, like. Some of them are going to be either a health insurance, sign up for health insurance, or submit your health insurance waiver. There could be like submitting your immunizations, housing, orientation, things like that. You have it all, and you'll have it all in front of you. So I'm a visual person. That's the best way that I would want it to be laid out.
And it will be all there for you. Um, something? Keep in mind the deadline for student housing. You are guaranteed housing, but you have to submit your application by. I'm not sure if it's this. I think it's the 6th but double check on my admissions. Just make sure you're paying attention to that date and then the sending official transcripts and test scores. Those dates may be flexible as well. Those will be in my admissions with the state of things right now. We understand that there are just some things that are a little bit up in the air, so we want to make sure that you're aware that.
We are aware and willing to be flexible for you guys if you have any questions. You can always reach out to us. This is the easiest place to go. Go to admissions@ucdavis.edu you Scroll down a teeny bit on the bottom are kind of on the right there's like a tool bar. There's a few different options. The ask an advisor with the purple. Question mark that is the best way to reach out to us right now, you can call us. We're still working on working out the kinks to make sure our call center will be accessible while working from home.
But ask an advisor is a surefire way to get your questions answered or being in the webinars we have. Webinars will have. Let's see we have one next Wednesday. I'm also hosting that one that will be a really fun, especially for those of you who are S ARD 'cause it's going to be all about Davis in real life, so I'm going to be. I've been collecting content photos, hopefully videos to kind of give you a feel for what our campus looks like and you can really get as best as good of a feel as you can in a virtual sense.
And the last thing before we open it up to questions is we have a WhatsApp group, so you can just download the app on your phone if you haven't done it already and then you can just scan this QR code. Or you can use the link right here. It's bit dot LY.
ZAP MTN and W for mountain and Midwest. And so this group is.
Family farm out in Midwest admitted students. We have a few folks in there right now. That's another great place to ask questions. I'm the one that moderates that we have a couple other advisors from admissions who are in there to help out as well and you can also get to know each other. Uhm, maybe you'll get to meet each other and you can add each other on Facebook and maybe you guys will both SI R&B roommates whatever or not, but just to give you an opportunity to connect with other folks that have been admitted. And that's pretty much it so.
What questions do you guys have actually? Let's go to this first so you guys can scan that. Cue our code.
Go ahead, let's open up to questions, I'm.
Now I talked a lot and talked for almost 20 minutes so.
What do you guys want to know?
I question I get a lot about is housing and students are interested in what that's like our housing website and I'm actually going to do it right now is super helpful you know what I can share my screen.
And let's go to UC Davis housing.
So I can show you all the great resources that the housing website has so you can get a better feel for what that would look like so housing.
So there are three different areas and housing. We have segundo tresero quarto there in different locations and their large showed segundo Inter sero or the largest. They're pretty big in size quarter zip it smaller. That's where we have a majority of our suite style so if you're interested in something like that and you can see what that looks like if you go to court to.
You go to residence halls. You can see the different halls were kind of doing some additions there.
You can get a better feel for what those look like, so let's look at Tahoe.

How easy is it to change from Letters and Sciences to Biological Sciences if I were to change my major?
You can see the floors occupancies. All this info. You can see a map for plans in room models so I'll give you a feel for that. So this is going to be our suite style so you can see there's four rooms here with a common area so it looks a little bit different. Then I'll go back to our traditional style, which is exactly what you would think that would look like. So I see your question. Let me finish this up really quick and then we're going to get right to changing majors. OK, gotta question change majors so I'll give you a feel for just a standard.
Traditional style haul. You can see the size of this. You can see the floor plan here, so this is a more traditional style which you got your communal restrooms and then you got your.
Different rooms here and you can see what each floor looks like. You can see that room out here so it's just a traditional size after single, not your double. So that's to give you a feel. Check out the housing website. It's super super useful.

Regarding housing, what is the percentage of female students that choose co-ed living communities versus single-gender living communities?
If a person chooses quiet-female, is that a separate area from (not-quiet) female? In other words, is there a quiet section in the dormitories?
What does quiet program mean?
But yeah, that's probably where I would direct you guys. If you have questions. 'cause I think a lot of our questions or having really good so you have a question about, um, changing majors, so changing from one college to another definitely has a smidge more. I'm going to say paper paperwork for lack of a better word, but you have to submit a petition. So basically I don't know what your major is, but once you've been at UC Davis for 1/4 and you're in good academic standing following that quarter and you can start the petition for.
Sage Farrow
06:23:45 PM
Can you choose your roommates if you want to do a Health Sciences living, learning community?
US changing your major so you can change from one college to another. Engineering sometimes can be tricky, but you can change from modern science the Biosci. I would advise you unless you like. Just straight up click the wrong thing and it was supposed to be something else from the beginning.
Uh, I would advise you to take some classes or take one class maybe, and the major that you anticipated or is major prep for the major you initially put just to get a field to make sure you don't go through all the paperwork and all the petition.
To them, why change back? So just be certain before you change your major, but you can definitely do it. Most students change their major at least once, so don't worry about that. Alright for housing. What percentage of female students that use code versus thing so every so all of our housing is there Coed floors? And then you have same-sex rooms, so if you want it to be on an all female or all male floor, you would have to indicate that.
Katherine Gorden
06:24:44 PM
yes
And you're asking if a person is quite female. Is that a separate area from not quite female? Are you looking Catherine? Are you looking at the UM housing preferences? She is that what you're getting quiet female from? OK, uhm, yeah. So um, you would probably want to look on the housing website to see if they have anymore. I showed you guys 'cause I wanted you guys to kind of take advantage of that resource having. I mean I did live in residence halls, but that was I mean almost 10 years ago.
Um and I did live in an apartment and I didn't opt for single gender living communities because I wanted to kind of immersed in everything.
So I'm not sure how the quite section would work. I don't know if that's for roommate pairing or not, but I would reach out to housing if you can't find anything specific on their website then I would probably reach out to them. And yes, age you can choose your roommates. You would just have to make sure that your roommates put the same preferences as you. So if you both put Health Sciences living, learning community, then it'll be fine. As far as I know, the way I've been expend explained to me, you can request to have a roommate, but you guys have to have the same housing preferences and you obviously both need to request each.
Other to make sure it's mutual, so that's how roommate selection would work. If you want to pick your roommate.
Has anyone Sir yet? Does anyone know they're coming to Davis?

That's OK if you haven't decided yet. Um, if you have questions that you need help making that decision, please feel free to reach out to us. The WhatsApp Group is a great way to reach out to me. Specifically, I don't know if any of you are from Colorado, but I actually was in Colorado. When was it? October and then I visited a lot of different high schools, so you may if you recognize my voice at all. Probably not, but I was in Colorado, but I'm working with the entire mountain in Midwest region. I'm really excited for those of you who have SRT Davis, you are going to love.
Love it is amazing. You're from Colorado. Yeah, sage.
Yeah, so um, if you don't know yet, that's OK. The WhatsApp Group is is for admitted students. You don't have to have Sir. Yet use the QR code. You can join right now. I'm actually going to see if any of you.

What date are students notified about any potential scholarships?
Tija Simitz
06:27:40 PM
I heard something about orientation being online, is that true?
Did anyone at the WhatsApp group yet just add it and then if you decide that it's not, you don't want to, then you can always leave. But for now go ahead and join it. That way you have direct access to me an all another peers that have already been admitted in your region. What dates are student notified about potential scholarships? So your financial aid package should have been included. You should have received it by now with your admissions letter, so either said that your.
It should have said either it's on the way or you should have it already, so you should know about most of them. I think there might be a couple that are.
Gonna be rolling out, but that's a good question for financial aid. They're actually doing a webinar in about half an hour, so if you guys want to tune into that web and R and get that question answered, that would be a great time. Do you know that there's going to be a lot more people than we have in this one? But that would be a great opportunity to ask them too.
On line orientation, yes, so the way orientation works for Davis. We are switching to a hybrid model, so we're doing over summer. You're going to do. It's called Aggie 101 that's going to be an on line kind of foundational. Quick course to give you kind of, uh.
The nuts and bolts about what you need to know about being a first year student. Davis. Once you've completed that, you'll be able to sign up to do on line appointment with an advisor and they're going to help you register for your classes. So that's Part 2 Part 3, assuming that everything will be able to kind of function normally for the fall were hoping that's going to be the case, but you never know with the state of things now. Assuming that we're able to start enrollment and everyone is going to be in in.
Person in the fall. Uhm, we you guys are going to move in. I think it's like 10 days before the first day of school. So you move in a little bit early and then that those days leading up to the first day of classes, that's going to be when you do orientation so you don't have to travel out here and do like in person some orientation. Then go home and then come back. So this is definitely a benefit for you folks who are traveling from farther away. So once you submitted your Sir with that process will be you'll have access to more information with that process will look like so you'll understand.
Kind of what needs to be done when.
What other questions do you guys have?
I'm trying to think of things that a lot of students asked. Changing majors is a common one. What you can do, but again, I would advise you to wait a little bit just to make sure you don't have to keep changing to a bunch of different things. End up declaring my major, even though I was pretty sure I knew what I wanted to do I ended up declaring, I think my sophomore year and I didn't declare my minor until my senior year, so there's not a huge rush on that one.
Any other questions you guys?
I think some of you I think I see some of you have added on the WhatsApp, which is great.
Already well, it some well 5:30 my time six 3730. For some of you up. If you have any other questions the WhatsApp is a great opportunity for you guys. Connect you have access to that here I'm about to closeout, but you also have it in your email, so if you haven't already, please join it. I look forward to hearing from you guys. I miss so excited for those who have already sia yard where you're going to love love love Davis so much and I hope you guys have a wonderful evening. Thanks for joining me and.

Thank you!
Have a good night. Bye bye you guys.
