hello!!
Hello, my name is Pauline. I'm a financial aid officer here at UC Davis. We will be starting very shortly if you're able to hear me, would you please leave a quick message in the chat box?
Jamila Brown
06:01:26 PM
Hi I can hear you!
Oh great, thank you so much.
Breanne King
06:01:35 PM
Welcome everyone!
Thank you everybody that some that sending messages.
OK, well welcome and thank you for joining us for this financial aid and scholarship. Important things to remember presentation?
Jason Andalora
06:01:56 PM
Welcome Aggies!
Um few things. I wanted to let everyone know, um, one that I am not the only one here. Uhm with you during presentation or for this presentation, we have a handful of other representatives from financial aid that are here to assist you, so I'm hoping that during my presentation I'm going to answer a lot of your questions. However, please feel free to ask questions in the chat box and there's representatives waiting to answer those questions that you may have.
Alright, so let's get started up again. Welcome to this presentation here. In this first slide they just wanted to share and show you done in Hall. That is where financial aid and scholarships is housed. We want to be available to students as often as possible during these times. Unfortunately, we are only available to you through phone or.
Through email, but hopefully very shortly. Um, when safety allows, we want to continue being available to you locally at Davis at dining Hall.
There's a couple of agenda items that I want to go over. Um, today we're going to be talking about different types of financial aid. We're going to get a little more familiar with my awards.
Uh, we also are going to talk about scholarships. Um, we're going to talk about some 2021 appeal options. We're going to discuss a little bit about the privacy policy and how we protect your information here. We're going to go over some important dates. It's quite a bit, but time permitted. After the presentation. I will also try to go over some of the more common questions that we get during presentations like these.
Alright, so types of financial aid. There are a wide variety, but the more common ones are things like grants. Now grants are gift monies that students do not have to pay back.
Students are qualified for a variety of different grants, more commonly through federal. The federal government or that are offered through qualified fast profilers. There's grants available through the state or the most common one probably is the Cal Grant, and there's also institutional grant money. There is also loan options now.
Loans are also considered financial aid, and often the loans that are available through financial aid are a bit more favorable or.
Charankamal Padda
06:04:50 PM
Will this webinar cover info on scholarships as well?
Just have better interest. Rates are repayment options in comparison to maybe a typical bone that you would borrow through your bank and these more favorable.
More favorable details or offers for these loans are available to students only and that's why they're considered a part of financial aid. There's work study programs, which is what it sounds like it's working to earn an income.
Jamila Brown
06:05:11 PM
@Charankamal yes this webinar will cover scholarships as well
Uh, as well as UM scholarships which are another type of gift, money and scholarships as well can come from a variety of different locations. When being institutional, the other being outside scholarships, which we're going to go over in a little bit more detail in a future slide.
Lisa Lewis
06:05:47 PM
Hi i have loans that say i have things that are not finalized but i did what was required can you tell me why they say i haven’t finalized them
So the next slide I'm sharing with you is the summary page on the my words page. So for those who are not yet familiar with my awards, this is be portolan where where you will find your financial aid offer for your upcoming academic gear. The summary page is exactly what it sounds like. It is summarizing the entire academic year.
Edward Oropeza-Rodriguez
06:06:30 PM
can we see the cal grant in our award right now?
So in this screenshot you are going to notice a couple of different things to the left you are able to see the estimated financial aid. Notice it it can be a drop down box to show further details, but it's just giving you a quick clip of what you've been offered for this full academic year. Below that, the box is Cher or in the box below. We are sharing your estimated cost of attendance.
Jaina Jogia
06:06:31 PM
when do we find out if we got a merit scholarship?
Maizie Murielle Flores
06:06:48 PM
will this be recorded?
Jason Choi
06:07:00 PM
Hi Lisa, the requirements for loans will not be available to complete for the 2020-2021 Academic Year until July 1st. If you already completed these loan requirements, you may have completed the requirements for 2019-2020. I would recommend going back and completing the requirements after July 1st.
The estimated cost of attendance is a variety of different things. Uhm, one potentially being the fees, the living expenses, books and supplies transportation. So some of these things are charged to you and other things. This will doesn't charge to, for example books and supplies, but we build it all in this cost of attendance so that you have the opportunity to be offered aid to help cover these expenses that you're going to.
Need assistance with while in school.
Breanne King
06:07:08 PM
Hi Jaina! Scholarships for the most part have not been awarded yet. Notifications will go out later over the summer.
Jamila Brown
06:07:17 PM
@Maizie yes this will be recorded
Prabhleen Gill
06:07:26 PM
when do we get informed if we got the regents scholarship?
You're going to also notice the estimated contribution, that is, the amount that we have calculated or determined based on your financial aid application that a family could potentially contribute towards the cost of attendance. It isn't a fee, it's just the estimated contribution contribution towards the overall cost, and then the estimated financial need. You're going to notice is the difference between those two, so cost of attendance minus the family contribution is the remaining need and that need we are able to determine what kind of.
Need based awards. We can offer the student a lot of those need based awards are the types of awards we discussed in the prior slide. Like the grants, the work study, the subsidized loans to the right of this screen, you're going to notice some important notices. We always try to keep students informed, often through the my awards page, so.
Fernanda Rivera Canales
06:08:12 PM
Are work-study programs exclusive to only jobs available on campus?
Breanne King
06:08:13 PM
Hi Prabhleen! Regents scholarships were awarded at the same time admissions offers went out.
Joy Fisher
06:08:15 PM
@Edward, Yes you would be able to see your Cal Grant as an estimated award, that will later be confirmed and accepted for you once we receive the roster from CSAC in July
Sorry, so please keep it. Keep an eye out for these notices. We just want students to be notified of different types of award eligibility. In the example given on the screenshot, we're sharing with a student that they could potentially be eligible for the work study program and that later on in the year in June there would be more information about that.
The next slide is actually sharing the bottom half of that summary page, so on the top half it summarizes the total amounts, but now they're able to see how those total amounts are divided out by the academic year, fall, winter and spring, and then to the very right. It's total in all of those awards.
Jason Choi
06:08:48 PM
@Fernanda, there are some Work-Study opportunities off-campus as well.
Jason Andalora
06:09:07 PM
What is CSAC?
Destiny Leon
06:09:13 PM
Hello quick question: How do I accept my work study award?
This slide is sharing the awards tab, so it's the second tab of the my awards page, and in the second tab, not only are you able to view your individual offered words, but you're able to view the status of them. So from the left you're seeing the award type. The next column is showing you the offer toward the accepted amount and then the award status really quickly. I want you to notice that the tool words at the bottom in the example.
Arshdeep Bains
06:09:44 PM
hi I accidentally declined a loan, how do I get it back?
Are grants and often grants are on our place as accepted on your behalf, with the exception of Cal grant above. Cal Grant currently is an estimated status, but in this example the students we were able to determine that the student could potentially be qualified for Cal Grant based on their financial aid application. However, we need to wait for the California student aid Commission to verify that later in the summer and then later on it will.
Arshdeep Bains
06:09:58 PM
on MyAwards^^
Jason Choi
06:10:08 PM
Hi Destiny, if you are eligible for Work-Study, you will be awarded Work-Study once you have been hired into a Work-Study job.
Sabrina Shakur
06:10:13 PM
And can we apply for the Regents scholarship next year?
Jason Andalora
06:10:18 PM
CSAC is California Student Aid Commission
It will move into an accepted status. You're also going to notice that in this example that the loan offers are just that they're in offered status. We do not accept any loans on a student's behalf. Little bit later in the summer, students may choose to take action on these loans, weather accept or decline. However, it we really want to make sure student understands that if they choose to accept the loan, they are not required to accept the full offered.
Jamila Brown
06:10:39 PM
@Jason Andalora CSAC is the California Student Aid Commission. They process all Cal Grant and Middle Class Scholarship awards.
Paula Janine Yamat
06:10:43 PM
Can we receive federal pell grant, cal grant and the UC BLUE AND GOLD grant at the same time for SY 2020-2021
Mount once a student chooses to click on this except decline button, they will then be prompted to ask if you're accepting what portion of the accepted offered award are you wanting to accept so you can accept a portion of of the offered aid if needed.
Breanne King
06:10:46 PM
Hi Sabrina! Unfortunately Regents is only offered for incoming students.
Jason Choi
06:11:00 PM
Hi Arshdeep, if you have declined the loan, you may submit a Change in Aid Request via your MyAwards page.
Lisa Lewis
06:11:06 PM
@jason thank you
And then the last column in this page or on this screenshot is the requirement status. So even if the award is an acceptance status, the award will not disperse in a timely manner if there is pending requirements. So this page or this button is actually going to be able to notify the student whether further action is needed if there is an income.
Sleep requirement, then we're going to highly encourage our students to act on completing these requirements.
Nikkole Jacob
06:11:19 PM
Hi! Where can we find this page? Can we find it in the UC Davis portal?
Charankamal Padda
06:11:41 PM
How can we apply for scholarships? Will we have to create an account first?
Come as soon as possible. I also want to point out that there is a requirement tab on the top of this site that's actually hide it by highlighted by a red exclamation mark. So whether the student chooses just to click on the third tab, the requirement tab, or click on the incomplete button, it will direct the student to the same location the requirements page. So here is a look at the requirements page, and a student might find a variety of different.
Requirements up in this example, the student was selected for verification, which just means that we would need to collect some additional documentation to verify some information on the financial aid application.
Breanne King
06:12:17 PM
Hi Charankamal! Incoming students do not need to apply for UCD scholarships for their first year. You will need to apply for next year however and that application opens up in October.
Jason Choi
06:12:25 PM
@Yamat, the UC Blue and Gold only guarantees that you will receive enough grants to cover at least your system wide tuition and fees. In most cases, if you are a Cal Grant recipient, the Cal Grant award itself is enough to cover your system wide tuition and fees.
Again, arm one of the most important things about my awards is that we are always going to notify students of important dates and information on these pages. So I want to direct your attention to the top of this page where it shows not only the warning there's incomplete requirements still pending, but also in blue. It's letting the student know that there is a priority verification deadline for one of the requirements verification requirement that priority deadline.
Tenzing Paldon
06:12:41 PM
Can I decline the offered federal loan for fall 2020 and later if i decide i need more finanical help, can i request for a loan for a different semester?
Is July 15th of this summer. What that means is we are encouraging our students complete verification an other these other requirements as soon as possible so that we can do our due diligence and financially to make sure that these requirements are processed in a timely manner so that aid is dispersed without delay. Now a student can always complete these requirements after this priority deadline and we will still do our due diligence to get this process as quickly as possible.
But in order to reduce the possibility of any disbursement delay, you're going to want to get this. These requirements taken care of before the deadline.
Jamila Brown
06:13:30 PM
@Nikkole you can find these pages on your MyAwards page https://myawards.ucdavis.edu/MyAwards/SecondaryVerification.aspx
Sabrina Shakur
06:13:38 PM
For work-study, it says there is certain amount granted - such as $3500. How does that work? Do we work to earn that entire $3500? Or do we receive $3500 in addition to the money we would make on the job?
OK, so now we're going to talk about some remaining costs or how to determine remaining cost. And we this screenshot actually is jumping back to the summary page and here in this example, we've used the drop down box to see what the cost of attendance entails. So again, in this example we're seeing tuition and fees, book supplies, room and board, personal transportation, another so.
All of those things make up cost of attendance.
Wyatt Gray
06:13:55 PM
what if the estimated family contribution is higher than the actual family contribution? ie no family contribution?
We're also seeing the family contribution.
The family contribution that we were able to determine in this example, as well as the total financial aid need.
Jason Choi
06:14:07 PM
Hi Tenzing, if you decline your loans, you may submit a Change in Aid Form to our office to accept your loans at any time during the academic year. However, I would recommend that you leave them in offered status so that you can simply accept the loan if you need it. A loan in offered status will not pay out and you will not be responsible for paying it back if it does not pay out.
Arshdeep Bains
06:14:07 PM
do you guys have a link/website for incoming students that can apply for outside scholarships?
In this slide I also want to point out that when it comes to the cost of attendance, cost of attendance will vary from student to student, just depending on variety of different things. The more common things are if a student is living on campus, that cost of attendance will be different from the student who lives off campus or as a commuter, or as a nonresident. So keep keep in mind that your cost of attendance is tailored to your housing in your residency.
Jamila Brown
06:14:57 PM
@Tenzing Yes you can decline the offered loan and request it later on by completing a Change in Aid form in your MyAwards
Breanne King
06:14:59 PM
Hi Arshdeep! Yes, we have hundreds of outside scholarships listed on our website that we would encourage you to consider applying to. They can be found on this site: https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/scholarships/outsidescholarships
Tatiana Del Cid
06:14:59 PM
Is it true that university grant and Cal grant A are for tuition only?
Next, uh, we're pointing out the remaining cost at the bottom of the same page. And So what has happened is we're taking the cost of attendance and we're comparing it to the family contribution amount and the estimated financial need. And we're showing that in combination of the family contribution and the estimated financial need awards.
They actually total or equal that cost of attendance, leaving a zero in remaining costs, which means that this student has a variety of different options and awards to help them cover the full estimated cost of attendance.
Jason Choi
06:15:25 PM
Hi Sabrina, you would be working to earn the $3,500 Work-Study award.
Sasha Lyons
06:15:36 PM
Can we request a higher loan amount than we are offered if we haven't hit the Federal loan limit?
However, we do understand a lot of families want to know specifically what their having to consider out of pocket or what their costs are going to be and those detailed.
Those detailed pieces of information will be available later on this summer. We're anticipating in August the fall bill will be posted by student accounting. When that happens, the student will be able to.
Jason Choi
06:16:24 PM
Hi Tatiana, Cal Grant is tuition specific while university grant is for any education related expense which can include tuition, room and board, books and supplies, etc.
Will be able to locate their their fall expenses and they'll be able to compare their offered aid towards those fall expenses. And so in this screenshot is showing you that at the bottom of the summary page in my awards there will be a check current balance button that will allow the student to navigate to my bill where they will be able to locate the details of their specific costs like their fees, and then their room and board.
David Evans
06:16:33 PM
In regard to the the CAAA Leadership Scholarship, since were incoming transfer students, we cannot apply for it until next year?
If the student is living on campus and depending on what kind of housing that student has been placed in.
Breanne King
06:16:57 PM
Hi David! That scholarship is handled by the Alumni Office so please contact them with any questions. We do not work directly with it.
Daniella Perez Garcia
06:17:04 PM
Do we have to pay back all of the loans if we accept them or are there some that we do not have to pay back?
So we're gonna go over some examples and I'm keeping in mind this is an example and it is not tailored to everybody, but just something to consider and think about. So in this example we are asking a student first to consider their cost. So in the box in the top left they were showing a typical cost.
For one term, so we're showing tuition and fees housing Seven day meal plan. The health insurance of coverage, and the one time document theme and we're minusing. Or comparing it to the authorized grant money. The awards that have already been accepted.
Jason Choi
06:17:31 PM
Hi Sasha, yes. However, the total of your financial aid cannot exceed your total estimated Cost of Attendance.
Kevin Garcia Contreras
06:17:42 PM
For accepting how much we want to receive from a loan, does that pertain to both subsidized and unsubsidized loans?
Jason Andalora
06:17:47 PM
Daniella..Loans do need to be payed back.
And we when we compare those two more, comparing the costs that we're going to be able to see in August to the estimated accepted aid for that term, we're estimating that in this students example, their remaining costs would still be about $5144. So in this scenario, we would ask students to then start considering alternative options, like those awards that have not yet been.
Alessandra Vargas
06:18:17 PM
if i was not awarded work study on MyAwards, am i able to still petition for it?
Accepted like the Student Loans or potentially apparent loan for a dependent student. Possible outside scholarships that you're pursuing or possibly even some personal personal savings to help with some of the expenses that your aid couldn't cover.
Ivan Martinez
06:18:41 PM
If I submit a change of aid for on-campus, will my financial aid change?
This slide is, uhm, sharing with students other resources outside of viewing your financial aid offers an acting on incomplete requirements. Through my awards, you will also be able to change or to update your account for a variety of different reasons. One of the more common ones is if a student is changing housing, maybe.
Breanne King
06:19:00 PM
Hi Everyone! We are approving and answering questions as quick as we can. Thanks for being patient and keep submitting them.
They decided to move to off campus and they want to notify financial aid to make sure that their financial aid is adjusted accordingly. Or if they want to increase an existing accepted loan, the.
Tina Afshari
06:19:18 PM
what does family contribution exactly mean ?
Jason Choi
06:19:37 PM
Hi Kevin, you have the ability to indicate how much you want to accept for all loans, subsidized and unsubsidized. That being said, I would recommend maximizing your subsidized loans before accepting any unsubsidized loans.
Jason Andalora
06:19:39 PM
We encourage all students to budget for loans if they are needed, and to have a plan as to how much you would need to borrow.
Uh, let's see I'm so sorry. Or if they want to report any outside scholars or outside assistance. More commonly that is going to be an outside scholarships. Often students know about outside scholarships before the school does, so it would be really helpful if you report those outside awards before they are sent over to the school. That way we can adjust your budget accordingly. Make sure we anticipate those awards coming in.
The UM, other document that this screenshot is pointing out for students is the third party authorization form, which is something that we're going to discuss in a little bit more detail in just a bit, but this form allows you to designate people or a person outside of yourself to be eligible to collect some of your financial aid information on your behalf.
Jamila Brown
06:20:24 PM
@Wyatt the family contribution is based on the information provided on the FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application. It is possible for this to be as low as zero. If the estimated family contribution is higher than the actual family contribution and there is a reduction in income we do have a Family Contribution appeal that can be completed to see if we can give additional aid. You can find more information here: https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/faforms/family-contribution-review
Alright, but let's talk about the scholarships now. Um, first we want to let you know that your application for admission was your application for scholarship consideration in your first year, so.
Jason Andalora
06:20:32 PM
Its always a good practice to only borrow what you need, and not accept any amounts that are not needed.
Jason Choi
06:20:34 PM
Hi Alessandra, Work-Study will be awarded once you are hired into a Work-Study job. I would recommend starting with the Internship and Career Center to being your search for jobs.
At this point your applications or consideration are still being evaluated and you will be notified throughout the summer if and when you are eligible for any of these scholarships through the my awards page, as well as your UC Davis email.
In addition, we want to encourage you to continue looking for in pursuing any other outside scholarships outside of what you see Davis is offering.
So scholarships types that are available. So there are a different variety of of scholarships in different requirements.
Or or things that are considered.
Kyle Olver
06:21:20 PM
Will scholarships lower our grant amounts?
They are based on qualifications and talents I need based sometimes, but often on often your accomplishments are taken into consideration.
Jason Choi
06:21:28 PM
Hi Ivan, generally, the Cost of Attendance for an On-Campus housing is higher than Off-Campus. Therefore, in general, financial aid increases as a result of the increase in Cost of Attendance.
Breanne King
06:21:57 PM
Hi Kyle! We will do everything we can do to not lower grants when awarding scholarships.
We are also offer other resources through the financial aid and scholarships website on how to pursue any other types of scholarship or tools and tips on how to find them. So outside of our own scholarships, we want to encourage you to look for any other scholarships elsewhere, often those being maybe local organizations and clubs that you are affiliated with. We also know that there are some very popular search engines.
Um, available. Most notably Fastweb or Google? We would ask you to visit our site and start there. And of course, if there any questions or concerns not only as financial aid available to you but also our scholarship office, so we want to make sure that not only are you doing your part to look for any other resources outside of what you see, Davis is able to offer, but that your.
You're looking elsewhere and that we try to provide you with assistance with those as much as we can.
Now, As for those outside scholarships. So the scholarships that were not awarded through UC Davis. Your scholarship committee may ask where to send that money too. And so in this screen I'm sharing the mailing address in where we ask for those outside scholarships to be sent. In addition, the scholarship committee that is awarding this gift money to you, they will want to provide a memo as well as attach your name.
Um and your UC Davis student ID. That way we are sure to post your outside scholarship to your account.
Joy Fisher
06:23:24 PM
Hi Tina, EFC stands for expected family contribution and it is a number that is used by the financial aid office to determine aid eligibility. It is a number that is calculated by taking into account number of people in the family, how many are going to college, income information and benefits received to come up with a number that tries to reflect the ability to contribute to a student's education. It is not a cost your family would have to pay necessarily.
Allen Murph

Great question Edward, my cal grant award doesn't appear in my awards right not either but it is confirmed through the cal grant website, why is that?
Roselena Mejia-Campos

If we are thinking about living off campus, do you recommend any websites to look for apartments and things of that sort? Or does the school have their own apartments and if so, can a non-student live with us?
David Evans
06:23:36 PM
What scholarships are we automatically considered for since our admissions app is the scholarship app?
We're going to talk about appeals next, so there are a variety of different appeals. An often the appeals are available to submit by October 1st or as early as October 1st. With exception this year of our family contribution appeal, our family contribution appeal is a pill that allows us to look at current financial. Your current financial information versus the financial aid information that you're.
Amanda Thomas
06:23:53 PM
Okay, this is a long one - sorry. I was accepted to both UC Davis and UCSB, but chose Davis. UC Davis has awarded me grant aid under the Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan, whereas UCSB indicated I would be getting a Cal Grant. As far as I know, I am not eligible for a cal grant due to a gap where I was not in school and thus didn't have grades to submit. I was also told I can't get both. Just wanted to confirm that the Blue and Gold Opportunity grant is what I will be getting?

Is there any way to apply for Cal Grant again if I did not apply in time?
Uh, it was asked for for 2018, especially with these uncertain times that we've been having in the last couple of months. We do realize that a lot of families have been impacted in sometimes negatively when it comes to their income, so we want to let students and family know that there is a family contribution appeal that will allow us to look at your current financial situation if it has changed in order to consider you possibly for an award adjustment again.
Tenzing Paldon
06:24:39 PM
Is CAL GRANT AND THE BLUE GOLD SCHOLARSHIP THE SAME? if not, what could a reson be that i do not have cal grant?
This appeal typically is available yearly starting October 1st. However, this year we're going to make an exception, and we're going to open up the appeal for this, or we're going to open up the queue for this appeal as early as July 1st. So if that is something of interest of for your family, please keep an eye on our website on and in my awards. For more information on that.

Paula Janine Yamat
06:25:18 PM
For the EFC, if it is 0.00 Would that mean the housing will be taken care of automically from the grants received? I believe transfer has guarantee housing at west village or a certain apartment near uc davis. would it be part of grant money already if efc is 0 ? or there is still something need to taken care of out of pocket of a student?
There's also other pills like the documenting the additional expense. Now the cost of attendance that we saw in Pryor slides is showing what the typical or average cost of attendance is for a typical student. But we know that there are always those exceptions, whereas students don't fit within the order needs financial needs, don't fit within the typical cost of attendance, and so with additional documentation we could consider you potentially.
Arsalan Alam
06:25:24 PM
I applied for FAFSA online. Do the financial aid office need documents such as tax return transcripts? If they do, then how I will submit such document in financial aid office?
Or a budget increase that would allow for additional aid to help with those additional expenses.

Hi Dianne...https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/contact
OK, we're going to move on to the pro student privacy policy. Like I said earlier, we really try or we really do our due diligence to protect students information and we do so by making sure that we do not share any of your information with anybody that you haven't.

Designated as a third party, you can again designate anybody you wish to be a third party authorized person through on my awards or through a form in my awards when the person Contacts the office, they will need to not only provide their name and their passphrase that you've created for them, but you're going to also want to make sure that you're prepared with student ID and the students birth date as well.

So let's talk about a couple of things that we can talk about, um, or it can provide students information on an maybe some things that we cannot. So first, what we can release. We can release general financial aid information like consumer information timeline are processing.
Tanmayi Amanchi
06:26:51 PM
My EFC is more than the estimated cost of attendance. Do I still get the financial aid that was granted on MyAwards?
Processing time lines as well. Financial aid options. We can discuss financially requirements often or like the ones that we saw my awards. We can discuss appeal options and loan documents and processing.

@Jason, thank you. Does the university grant help to cover housing costs if we choose to live off campus?
Breanne King
06:26:59 PM
Hi Mariyam! This depends drastically on each student's award package but most times there are ways we can post scholarships without reducing other aid.
Yes, I'm sorry, sorry, skip something.
All right now, over the phone were a little bit more limited, so the things that we can discuss over the phone are.

06:27:29 PM
what if our family won't be contributing? and what if our FAFSA information has changed?
Information on how to find how to find your information through portals like my awards or your student aid report or my bill or information on how to access tax information through the IRS. We can also confirm dates the fast that fast for or DREAM Act application.
Jason Choi
06:27:51 PM
Hi Amanda, if you fall meet the requirements to receive the UC Blue and Gold (UCBG) grant, you will be awarded the UCBG grant. However, if you would like to confirm, please contact our office so that we can discuss your file in more detail. 530-752-2390 or contact us using the Contact an Expert email portal system.
I was, I'm sorry, confirmed data from Vassar or DREAM Act application already provided by caller. Uh, we can provide the status of non faster or non DREAM Act application data and provide general information.
Like status of document review.

06:28:00 PM
Hi, during my application to UC Davis WE HAD TO REPORT AN INCOME FOR 2019, AND BY THE END OF THE YEAR I HAD MADE 20 GRAND LESS THAN WHAT I HAD REPORTED, WOULD THAT AFFECT ANY SCHOLARSHIPS OR GRANTS. IF YES, HOW DO I CORRECT IT?
But there are a handful of things that were not able to discuss over the phone, more specifically, things like the estimated family contribution, which is the calculation that we are provided through the fast for the DREAM Act application award amounts, specific values provided on the financial aid applications, specifically things like the adjusted gross income of the family income taxes.
Jamila Brown
06:28:34 PM
@Elizabeth Subsidized, Unsubsidized loans, and University loans are under your name. Parent PLUS loans would be under your parent's name.
And things of that nature and refund amounts. All of those things a student has access to collect for themself. So even though we won't be able to provide those specific information, you are able to contact us and we are able to help you navigate or direct you on where you can locate that information for yourself.
Jason Choi
06:28:51 PM
Hi Madeline, you can make more than $3,500. However, any earnings above $3,500 would be paid 100% by your employer versus via the Work-Study funds.
So let's not talk about some important dates.
The first important date that I want to discuss is October 1st because that is when the new fasfa DREAM Act an scholarship applications will be open or a future academic year. The 2021-2022 academic year. So when you are here in your first term in the fall, about a month later in October, we are already asking students to start submitting applications and preparing for their financial future.
For their second academic year.
So you're always going to be completing these applications ahead of time, keeping in mind specifically the scholarship application. So earlier I said that your application for admission was your application for scholarships for your first academic year, but moving forward for your future academic years, it's your responsibility to continue fully, not these applications and the scholarship application is, well, is the fast injury. Mac applications are going to be available as early as October 1st every year.
Angela Farris
06:30:06 PM
do grants renew themselves for the next academic year if you still meet the qualifications, or are grants a one time thing?
Now some deadlines that will be following those are the scholarship application will come first and that was going to be January of 2021, so that application is going to be open for a short two to three month window. So really important that you may come that priority, but following that shortly will be the fast button. the DREAM Act application priority deadline.
Breanne King
06:30:31 PM
Hi Angela! You must complete the FAFSA each year in order to continue receiving grants.
Jason Choi
06:30:56 PM
Hi Dianne, I would recommend you use the Contact an Expert email portal system or contact us at 530-752-2390 between 10 am and 2 pm, Monday through Friday.
And they say priority deadline because the fasten DREAM Act application can always be completed after that party deadline. However, if a student does not meet that priority deadline, they could potentially be losing out on some state or institutional gift monies that they have been considered for in the past. So in order for you to be sure that you are being considered for your maximum eligibility.
Please make your financial aid application submissions priority, ideally in the.
In the fall, but no later than March 2nd.
So now I get to talk to you about some of the resources that we offer. Financial aid has the Aggie Blue Tickle financial Wellness program. Through this program we are able to offer one on one advising we have free events like budget con. There's a picture of it on the screen where we invite other departments on campus to congregate in the same location to have so students can have access to many different variety of resources.

For any of the scholarships that require essays, will we be able to see the essay prompts before the application opens up?
Jason Choi
06:32:08 PM
Hi Arsalan, interest does not accrue while you are enrolled in at least half time. Once you graduate or separate from the university, interest and payments will begin six months after
All at once, we provide snack bags often during finals week and pass those out. We offer workshops we have on line resources like budgeting, managing student loans, debt management. All of these resources are of course free to students and they are there to help not only your current financial status or well being, but your future financial well being as well. So For more information you can head to our financial aid website.
Um, where you will see a Wellness and outreach tab where you can be updated on the more current events that we're going to be having shortly.

06:32:37 PM
Hi Tenzing, if your income has changed then you can file a Family Contribution appeal which will open up on July 1st. You will then be able to submit documentation for the financial aid office to review so that we can try to update the financial information to more correctly reflect your financial situation. If the appeal was approved, then you financial aid eligibility would be reviewed and updated with grants if eligible. Also the Cal grant and the Blue and Gold Scholarship are not the same thing and you can find more information on our website https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/undergraduate/types/grants

@Maizie To correct your name or DOB when your SSN is correct, you can:
Change your name or DOB on a paper Student Aid Report (SAR), or
Ask the financial aid office at one of the colleges listed on your SAR to change it for you.

06:32:43 PM
Hi Charankamal! For the UCD scholarship application you will not see the essay prompts early but you will have three months to complete the application so you will have plenty of time
Alright, we're almost to the end, but we're going to talk about some takeaways, so I know I provided you lots of information and again for any follow up questions that you may have that we weren't able to answer this evening, you can always reach out to the financial aid office. However, if there are only a handful of things that you remember about this evening, one of the thing or those things would be first head to hear my awards page and take a look at your.
Incomplete requirements and take action on them as quickly as you can so that you make sure that you're accepted aid is disbursed out to you in a timely manner in the fall.
Take a look at the cost of attendance and those details that we include and compare him to your financial aid offers and accept it financially so that you can start budgeting and determining what kind of need after financial aid is taking into consideration is needed.
Report any outside resources again.
Jason Choi
06:33:43 PM
Hi Paula, your out of pocket expense will really depend on how much your student housing cost will be. In general your out of pocket expense is tuition and fees plus housing charges plus health insurance (waivable) minus total accepted financial aid.
There there's often times where students learn about outside resources that are being awarded to them before the school so in order for us to make sure that we are that we have left enough room in your financially package to accommodate those awards and avoid any last minute adjustments please notify us of any outside resources as soon as possible you can do that through my awards where there is a change in.
Marie Kyla Perez
06:34:11 PM
Is there an estimated date in the summer for the scholarship notification?
Amanda Thomas
06:34:27 PM
What if my cost of housing is actually much higher off campus than on? The $900 2 bedroom in the family housing complex is probably half the going rate of a 2 bedroom apartment in Davis. (I am a single parent and can't just rent a closet somewhere). Is that factored in, or does the same general rule apply to everyone?
Eat form that will allow you to notify us of that. Keep in mind also that that change in aid and all other changing aid forms may result in an award change. However, if the change needs to be made, it's best that we do that as soon as possible so that we can adjust and share with you your most accurate eligibility.
Breanne King
06:34:37 PM
Hi Marie! There is not a set date as we will get the notifications out as soon as we finish. Since its a process there isnt a set timeline.
Jason Choi
06:34:56 PM
Hi Arsalan, if you were selected for the Federal or State Verification Process, you will see the requirement on your MyAwards page. Depending on the type of verification you were selected, you would submit your tax documents using the Verification Submission Tool.

You can contact our office through:
Scholarships, so again, your application for admission was your application for scholarships in your first year. You are being considered for them as we speak and if awarded they will be awarded throughout the summer and you will be notified through my awards. So keep an eye on the my words page as well as your UC Davis email and then remember when you start your fall term that will be the time that you're also going to want to start preparing to.

Breanne King
06:35:43 PM

Thank you again for sharing a piece of your evening with us. We really appreciate your time. Um, I'm going to take a quick second to pull up some common ask questions that I'll be going over and then very shortly after that, we will be closing at this this event, so please bear with me.

What happens if the EFC is much higher than what they are actually capable of contributing?
Jason Choi
06:37:30 PM
Tanmayi, if your EFC is more than your Cost of Attendance (COA), then you may only be eligible for non-need based loans. However, the sum of all of your financial aid cannot exceed your COA.
Gian Carlo Lambert
06:37:40 PM
Will the notification about Regents Scholarship also be in summer
Breanne King
06:38:04 PM
Hi Gian! Regents notifications went out at the same time admissions offers went out.
OK guys, so I'm looking at the Clock now. We roughly have about 7 to 8 more minutes so I'm just going to go over a handful of the most common questions that we received during events like this. Again, if your question could not be answered this evening, feel free to reach out to us either through contact an expert through a quick and easy.
Email if that if that's your preference, or you can also contact us tomorrow as early as ten o'clock through our phones.
All right, so one of the more common questions we get is how is the expected family contribution, also known as the ESC calculated?
Your ESC is based on your fast felt or your DREAM Act application. If the FC exceeds the cost of attendance, you are not eligible for need based financial aid. However, if you are eligible to complete a fasfa, you and your parent it dependent may still be eligible for unsubsidized direct loans. An parent loans for undergraduate students.
Jason Choi
06:39:00 PM
Hi Tatiana, if you decide to live off-campus, off-campus room and board expenses are also included in the Cost of Attendance. However, whether or not your grants will be enough to cover your housing costs will depend on how much your actual housing costs are (i.e. rent, utilities, etc.)
Charankamal Padda
06:39:02 PM
Can Regents Scholarship be awarded to students not in their first academic year at UCD?
Jamila Brown
06:39:11 PM
This webinar will be posted within 24 hours at https://ua.ucdavis.edu/portal/AdmitWebinars
Blue and gold. My application says I'm blue and gold eligible. What does that mean? Being blue and gold eligible means that the California undergrad undergraduates with an annual family income of up to 80,000 will have their system wide or base tuition and fees covered by gift 8 based tuition and fees are currently $12,570.00 for the 2019-2020 academic year. However, the total amount of Grant.
Eat that you receive will be based on your need. The $12,570 maybe.
Maybe your Cal Grant or it can, or it can include Pell Grant, University Grant or other grants and scholarships. So one of the more common questions I get.
Breanne King
06:39:56 PM
Hi Charankamal! The only time its awarded to continuing students is during student's sophomore year, going into their junior year.
Personally, is a student, realizes or notices that their blue and gold eligible, but they don't see an award that specifically says blue and gold. Blue and gold is.
Jamila Brown
06:40:07 PM
Information on Federal student loan interest rates can be found here: https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/loans/interest-rates
Is an umbrella eligibility but it is made up of a handful of different types of awards?
However, when you're blue and gold eligible, wedded typic or what it means is that it is. It is our commitment to, at the very least, have your systemwide fees covered, whether it be from Cal Grant, because often Cal. Grant cover systemwide fees.
You wanna word alone or it could be a combination of maybe federal institutional grant money. So if you are blue and gold eligible, don't be concerned that you don't see an award saying blue and gold. You are still qualified. It just means that there's other awards making up.
There's other awards that are covering those systemwide fees, meaning that you're pulling gold eligible.
Are I think I have 5 more minutes, let's see.
Joy Fisher
06:41:01 PM
Hi Amanda, the housing costs that are used the the Cost of Attendance are estimates and if your actual cost will be higher than what is estimated then you can submit an Additional Expense appeal to let the financial aid know of your additional cost so that we can try to increase the budget to correctly reflect your costs.
OK, so one of, uh, another very common question is can we talk a little bit more about the work study program? So work study allows a student to earn financial aid through employment. It's a word. It's awarded based on need, is available for students eligible to complete. The fast application allows a student to earn financial aid through employment, is paid in the form of a pain.
A payroll check for time or hours worked.
Institutional work study is available to international. An 8540 students who are eligible to work and is based on need as well for 8540 students who are also undocumented need is determined by the California DREAM Act Application California DREAM Act. Application must also meet deferred action for childhood arrivals or daca requirements to be eligible, international students must be must complete a separate application to be considered for.
Jamila Brown
06:42:13 PM
You can find more information on handshake here: https://icc.ucdavis.edu/handshake
A institutional work study. All jobs list listings are available online at handshake, which I'm sure many of you asked during the chat box, so I'm sure that that was listed there too.

I had submitted a school leave of absence for my Calgrant for the spring semester in my CC, I should still be able to use the remaining Calgrant at UCD in the fall right?
What is my family's financial of? What if my family's financial situation changes between now and when I start school? The answer is several appeals are available as early as October 1st. Family contribution actually will be out as early as July 1st. Family contribution appeal considers consideration of change to a student's financial situation due to special circumstance. There's a variety of different.
Maureen Jane Caling

Do we need to apply or anything for the Work-Study ?
Jason Choi
06:43:15 PM
Hi Topanga, if your parents have experienced a loss of income and you feel that the EFC is not an accurate reflection of your parent(s)' financial situation, you may look into the Family Contribution Appeal of the Documenting Additional Expenses appeal.
Joy Fisher
06:43:15 PM
Hello Anna, if you stop working prior to attending in the fall, then you would be able to submit a Family Contribution Appeal to let us know of your change in income.
Fernanda Rivera Canales
06:43:17 PM
If we chose our housing as off-campus, what does the "room & board" mean?
Circumstances that we will consider. There's more information on what those considerations are on our website, so if you're interested in in that appealed, please visit our financial aid website. There's also the documented additional expense, which we discussed a little bit during the presentation, and that is when your expenses exceed the standard budget allotment, for example.
Living expenses we do already include room and board or living expenses within your budget, however.
Iftekhar Munrat
06:43:37 PM
I did not know about Cal Grant and so I was not able to apply in time. Is there any to apply again?
Um, those budgets are general or standard aurum.
Or the more common, more common expenses. But we know some students experience.
Kathryn Mccammon
06:44:05 PM
I have public healthcare. How do I waive the healthcare fees through Davis?
Circumstances where their expenses exceed what we considered the standard, so we are able to take your personal expenses into consideration and if we find that they are allowable expenses, then we can increase your budget to allow for additional aid to help with that additional expense.
Sarah Carrasco
06:44:18 PM
Also, what if I have my own health insurance, how do I get the health insurance fee waived?
Things that is going to be all for the evening. Um, you have about a minute left so I'm sure that the people in the chat boxes are finishing up their last bit of questions. Again, I hope you all had a wonderful evening and had some questions answered. And for those that were left questions that were left unanswered, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you so much and we look forward to seeing you this all.

Hi Neina, in general if your eligibility usage was placed on hold, you should be able to utilize them if you come to UC Davis. That being said, if worse comes to worse, you will receive the University Grant in its place as long as you have the need and you filed by the priority deadline, March 2nd.
