    This event has been postponed.

    Dear students, parents, and educators:

In light of recent events in the City of Davis, and after careful discussions with a variety of stakeholders, we have made the decision to postpone the Cesar Chavez Youth Leadership Conference (CCYLC) scheduled for this Saturday, May 6, 2023 at UC Davis. This decision reflects our commitment to make safety the number one priority for all. This is a treasured, signature program for UC Davis, and it is our intent to reschedule the in person event for middle school, high school and community college students, and their parents for Fall of 2023.

We were excited for this event, and worked countless hours to make this experience unique for students and our community. However, the safety of every student, family member and chaperone was paramount to our decision to postpone the event. The CCYLC Planning Committee strongly agrees that at this time, we will support our local Davis community through this tragedy, mourn the lives that have been lost, and ensure the safety and security of our team members. This decision minimizes activity on campus to facilitate the ongoing investigation and heightened security presence in our community. This also eliminates the need for event staff, including students, to work late at night and early mornings to prepare venues to welcome thousands of participants.

Details on the re-scheduled event will be posted on our website. We know that many of you invested time and resources toward getting your students in person to our campus. We are committed to ensuring that everyone who planned to see UC Davis in person will be able to experience the beauty of our campus and the excitement of the university community when you attend the rescheduled event.

Please take a look at Chancellor May’s recent message to our campus community about the ongoing investigation and campus safety measures.

We know our city and campus as a place where all are invited to work, study, thrive, and be in community. This past week has shaken our sense of well-being and safety, but safety is our number one priority - and our community is resilient! We look forward to welcoming you here in the future, when we can show you the UC Davis that we know and love.

    In Community,

    The CCYLC Planning Committee
